I remember downloading this off KaZaa when I was like 12. No one has a bigger influence on my own musical life or has helped me get through some of the toughest of times than my queen Fiona. She introduced me to Bill Withers with this cover, another life long favorite for me, and I love you her so much.
the organ bass with the vibraphone and the mellotron swells in the chorus... and the screams from the crowd. I'm not one for live covers, but fuck is this delicious.
Wouldn't call myself a Fiona Apple "fan" but I've always appriciated her music, this truly hit the the spot. Sooo funky, sooo smooth, very very nicely done.
Fiona is one of the most underappreciated artists to come out in the past 15 years. Insanely talented, soul-full, beautiful, passionate. What more could you ask for? If she debuted today, she'd be winning more awards than Beyonce and Taylor Swift combined.
This is by far my favorite cover song from Fiona!! Hands down! Her sultry voice is perfect for this. And I think this is really is better than the original. PS:mccabe you are sooo right!
wow i used to have this mp3 way back in the day. i am so glad i found this on youtube so i can listen to it again. i've always loved her version. thanks for posting!
It's almost like this song was made for her to sing. It's totally in her style of her other albums. Especially the lyrical content: love and scorn. She rocks this.
Very cool that so many people watch and respond to this video. I wrote my comment quickly and off the top of my head. I meant to say that she deserves more awards and recognition than Beyonce and Taylor Swift combined. I understand that she isn't about awards or recognition, and that's just another reason why she's so great. The music industry is a crazy messed up world that does not value true talent. In my opinion, Fiona is (and always has been) ridiculously underappreciated.
I just realized who Bill Withers is, he's from my day. Fiona's version blows him away. No artist should ever want Fiona to cover one of their songs because she will just make them look bad. Fiona really can sing any kind of music. A gift to all of us.
I know your comment is from 12 years ago, so you probably won't see my response, but for anyone reading this - you should check out Fiona's cover of John Lenon's "Across the universe". (She has outdone him as well)
I love Bill Withers' original version, but this... this may just have outdone him with this groove and her soulful performance. 😍 Gotta love Fiona Apple. ❤
I was blown away when I first heard this. Bill Withers wrote a great song, but nobody has been able to put soul into it like Fiona. She gets the meaning of the song, and sends it down your spine like nobody else has. Great job Fiona!
Fiona delivers Use Me differently, and no less effectively, I think...Withers' original is about Artist vs Selling Out if you actually listen to the lyrics and are able to place yourself in his shoes at the time...the desire to do what you do against "something else"
Imagine performing a cover that kinda makes the original look poor in comparison, and then not ruddy releasing it. Fiona please. In terms of covers, this is right up there with Johnny Cash’s Hurt
i'm 19 and I know. And this is a great version of the song. Would you want every different version of the song to have the same tempo and sound like the original. I wouldn't. This wouldn't be a very good song if Fiona didn't make it her own.
i wanna spread the news if it feels this good getting used, well you just keep on using me , UNTIL YOU USE ME UUUUUPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hot daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmmmmnnnnnnnnnnnnn
@MegaWhiner, Listening to Bill Withers first, but I'm a fan of both. I was looking up Bill Withers stuf on here, and it lead me to this. I'm glad it did.
I tell you the truth, I tell you the truth You really do, you really do abuse me Ahh, ya get me in a crowd of high class people And then ya gotta act all rude to me ♫
I listen to Bill Withers, that's how I found this cover, Iceberg. I like her interpretation and I think she has plenty of soul. Of course she's not going to be able to match the soul of Bill Withers, she's not supposed to. She's her own artist.
this is awesome!! one of my all time favorite songs. love the original and love Fiona showing Bill respect owed!! Just posted a cover of this tune, please check it out!
First time I got to see "Fi" live, was by complete accident, at 'Club Largo'....she sang this......***TOTALLY*** BLEW MY MIND (OTHERS, TOO!)!!! {in my OPINION} with her lil raspy voice she sounds better than Withers does (& I NEVER say that 'bout originals)!!!!
i'm not saying she is going for to sound better than the original or not, but to me the only thing rivaling the original is the band. Bill Withers original is more humbly sung and classic, her's is harshly sung. and maybe it's their style, but it's too fast tempo
ITS SICKENING TO SEE ALL THESE BIBLE HUGGERS WHO HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE BIBLE IS ABOUT OR THE REAL TRUTHS IN IT TRY TO TWIST IT TO SUIT THEIR PARANIOA. WHAT THE BIBLE REALLY HAS WHICH IS INCREDIBLE IN IT IS IN JOHN CHAPTER 14 VERSE 12 AND 21
Blech, normally I like Fiona Apple, and this may be a perfectly good performance, but absolutely pales in comparison to the genuine Bill Withers BBC video.

I think you and I may be around the same age, because every word you wrote is true for me too. 😊

Wow, this needs and deserves a bump.
Wouldn't call myself a Fiona Apple "fan" but I've always appriciated her music, this truly hit the the spot. Sooo funky, sooo smooth, very very nicely done.
OH MY GAWD.... Bill Withers would STAND UP AND SHOUT on this cover! Hail to the queen....
just awesome. i could not have dreamed up a more magical combination than fiona apple and bill withers.
two stars shining bright!

Not without the sequined leotards I'm afraid
@@KGmeatball I feel like the 90s was the last Era where women didn't have to wear ridiculous outfits
Fiona doesnt care about awards and neither should we
This is by far my favorite cover song from Fiona!! Hands down! Her sultry voice is perfect for this. And I think this is really is better than the original.
PS:mccabe you are sooo right!
this woman owns ANY SONG SHE DOES> The whole time I had chills... still do, she is cold!
um actually
bill withers owns the rights to this song
wow i used to have this mp3 way back in the day. i am so glad i found this on youtube so i can listen to it again. i've always loved her version. thanks for posting!
I`m listening to this track as a first-timer to Fiona`s music. I am a HUGE Bill Withers fan & the first two words she sang gave me GOOSE. BUMPS.
It's almost like this song was made for her to sing. It's totally in her style of her other albums. Especially the lyrical content: love and scorn. She rocks this.
She's pretty cool.
My favorite song by one of my favorite artists... I'm in heaven!
i dig this song normally, holy shit. Fi's got soul.
Fiona gets it.....don't hate. Appreciate.
Fiona Apple is incredible! This version is marvellous. It sounds like a song of Billie Holiday's repertoire.
OH my god fiona. This is a good one.
I agree she is sooo talented and just fricken HOT!!!!!!
Still looooove this version
Great version of this song...love the use of the marimba.
it's a vibraphone I'm pretty sure

Fiona is breath taking
Wow, this is sexy for a completely different reason than Bill's version.
whoo!! awesome bill withers cover, Fiona!
nice version, she has an excellent feel for the music
Stupid crowd
"You like Bill Withers?"
"Who is he?"
Fiona was probably like let me educate these idiots
Awesome cover
@@phillippringle5950 that's right. Imagine knowing the existence of Bill Withers through this cover💫
@@phillippringle5950 I really liked those 2 songs too, the moment I found them, I was like 15, pure gold

Fiona's covers are tight. I like her vocals on this one especially.
Based on her song “as Fast as you can” I can tell why she’d want to cover this song
cool cover, love fiona!
Bravo to you as well! For seeing and giving positive feedback to young ppl!
I like the marimba-sounding melody in the background, nice touch
Go Fiona!
I love Bill Withers' original version, but this... this may just have outdone him with this groove and her soulful performance. 😍
Gotta love Fiona Apple. ❤
great cover,,,,,flawless. thx
Love her version of this song
Love her!
Omg, this is amazing!

Fiona Apple can use me anytime!
get it girl.... use me up
i appreciated fiona!!! =] =] =] =] =]
Nah, I have a feeling that if you like Fiona Apple enough to go to a concert, you probably got a decent knowledge of various music.
Imagine performing a cover that kinda makes the original look poor in comparison, and then not ruddy releasing it. Fiona please.
In terms of covers, this is right up there with Johnny Cash’s Hurt
She does that a lot.
Great job Fiona, you f##king tell them.

eff Lorde and her ilk....Fiona is the ORIGINAL
shivers and chills FUCKK
more funk in the bill version.. but glad someone is keeping this alive for the kids
where is this from? love it
@michaeljamesmccabe I agree, most of the female singer/songwritters that surfaced around those years where sorta very much anticipated to those days!
@justchad78 We just have to disagree. How did you end up listening to this? Listening to Bill and checked out Fiona, or listening to Fiona first?
Duet with Fiona and Bill would be amazingggggg.
and for being a good example of how a mature person has to behave
I love her she sounds kick ass so does Ben harper on this song!
i know right??
Yes...this, those people were probably like, "Who the f*** is Bill Withers?" But they knew this song when she got to the hook
@timthomas03 Aww Come on man this is better than the original!
I tell you the truth, I tell you the truth
You really do, you really do abuse me
Ahh, ya get me in a crowd of high class people
And then ya gotta act all rude to me

Great song......as if those teenie boppers had any idea who Bill Withers is. lol

@vipeme1 Kanye loves her! When the Pawn is the reason he wanted Jon Brion to produce Graduation.

ya, her version is so much more soulful then the original SARCASM. BUT it cuts off before the ending?
yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeessssssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!
@Apoet916 ya worst thing about fiona is her fans...
Charlie Drayton on drums - funky.
Ahhhh ok. I thought it was Matt Chamberlain.
ya
no
bill is better
but great that she attempted such a great song
hers is pain
his is resolve
Cool cover, I like it better than the original, the band is also kickin ass on this song!
disagree
This is barely faster than the original. This drummer is kicking all kinds of ass, too.
I think it’s Matt Chamberlain.
she gets lost in singing entirely, she's a musican from flesh and blood
Like for instance, 3:17 til the break of dawn
use me Ms. Apple.
Is... is this song about toilet paper
Chapstick. People never use it up.
i think it's "but i also know what's really true" instead of "But I don't know what's really true"
if two ppl openly admit to 'using eachothr'...is it really 'using' or its antithetic/oxy moron: altruistic using? Oh god, I'm so confused..
ai que voz
Nice but she should have kept it at the original tempo. The listener can enjoy her voice better this way.
Kanye would be givin her shit though

damn kids don't know who Bill withers is...
Yes too fast!
@MegaWhiner This is good, but not better than the original.
bill withers' original version is wayyyy better! however, i do like the bells she used.
marry me goddess... marry me and i will bring you warm milk with honey every morning... marry me you amazing woman.

What does that have to do with Fiona Apple?
Jesus Saves
girl, leave bill withers alone. This girl must have great marketing and producers behind her, 'cause this sucks harder then hard.
aw it's cut short! :l
i like fionna alot. but i'm not feelin' this cover at all. the original is much better. and fiona is much better when she sings her own songs
Fiona does it better
Blech, normally I like Fiona Apple, and this may be a perfectly good performance, but absolutely pales in comparison to the genuine Bill Withers BBC video.
OPENS UP LOTS MORE PEOPLE TO THE MAN! BILL WITHERS
CRAP!!!
They just screaming...no idea what she said...or who Bill Withers is...
