  • A couple of weeks ago I restored a big blacksmiths leg vice, so it only seemed fitting that I also restore my smallest vice. It's a Paramo No. 00, with 2 1/4" Jaws!
I started by stripping it down into its individual components, and then got to work with the paint stripper. It needed several coats and lots of scrubbing with a wire brush to get all the original paint off it. After rinsing in water I put everything into a tub of evaporust to get rid of any rust that was still there, and then wire brushed everything on the bench grinder.
This was a $0 budget restoration so I decided to use up some cans of stray paint. I added several coats of primer, followed by several coats of the red. If anyone is interested the colour is TNT by Kobra paints. It's perhaps not the most durable paint to use, but due to its size this vice is reserved for pretty light duty use so I think it'll hold up just fine.
