  • In this video I'll be making a simple 8x4 workbench.
Almost all of the construction for this bench uses 18mm MDF. It's a simple design, utilising a torsion box for both the top and shelf underneath. This ensures the bench will remain strong and flat over time. The top has 2 layers of MDF on it, the bottom layer is permanently glued to the torsion box, while the other is just screwed down, making it replaceable when it gets too beaten up. I added a piece of 18mm hardwood ply to the bottom of each leg as this is more durable than MDF. I decided not to put the bench onto castors to make it movable. My shop is pretty small and while I do keep some of my tools on rolling bases (my bandsaw and table saw, for instance) it's extremely rare that I ever need to move the benches.
