- Today we dive into the second in the series of "Hear with me" Segments featuring the Klipsch Nashville and the JBL Flip. We did an overview of these speakers a few weeks back. If you haven't seen it, make sure you check it out! After this we were asked why there wasn't any audio listening present in the video. Well, in this video I will explain why -- and -- despite my mixed feelings about this concept, I'll give it a go. If I'm gonna do it though, I'm going to do it a bit differently - Here's how.
What is "Hear With Me" all about? This is a series dedicated to letting you guys hear these speakers side by side in as controlled of an environment as possible.
Shot one at a time.
All shot identically.
Edge of the speaker and tip of the mic at 1 meter or 3.28 feet apart.
Each song ran through 3 times at 50%, 70%, and 100% volume.
Same 6 tracks.
Same mic.
Same room.
Same distance between the mic and the speaker.
Same everything.

5th song (Seth Austin) - the mix is amiss on both to me but the Klipsch sounding more natual & paletable (warmth in the voice).
This is an interesting track. Both do a decent job in reproducing here. Would almost call it a tie.
6th song - JBL for the techno music where bass is more distinct, sharper & punchier. Klipsch again sounding cleaner at 100% volume
I actually preferred the Klipsch on this one but, techno isn't typically my style so, could be my personal preferences shining through on that one.
I prefer Klipsch sound but definitely I would decrease the highs and increase the bass

4th song. Confusing. The voice is very raw on the Klipsch; and very processed on the JBL, as though it is supposed to sound like the JBL (i guess because i don't listen to this type of music). However, at 100%, the Klipsch appears clearer & better.
One thing you may notice throughout all Klipsch products is the ability to reveal things in music that you may have not heard before. This can be both good and bad depending on the recording. They can reveal subtilties or nuances that may otherwise be missed. they can also reveal artist mistakes or recording or mixing issues. Hard to say if the artist intended it to sound like speaker a or speaker b. All we can do is decide which one we prefer for our own listening.

What did you have the EQ set to on both?
EQ wasn't touched on either. I leave them at factory settings for these tests.

3rd song. At all sound levels sounding overprocessed on the JBL; more natural on the Klipsch.
Classical and orchestral music typically tends to lean in Klipsch's favor as well. Love listening to this on the Heresys or Cornwalls as well but, thats a different story for another day. Or maybe even another channel. :)
The 2nd song, the percussion is clear & differentiated on the JBL plus clear individualized poppy bass @6:41 and is a mess on the Klipsch @6:54. Wow, the first time i've seen the Klipsch lose. At 100%, the Klipsch improves @7:54 @8:05 and may sound better than the JBL @7:47 @7:58 which becomes dull. At 100%, it appears the JBL remains very clear on the poppy bass, which is inaudible on the Klipsch. But at 100% the Klipsch percussion may be better. At 100%, i much prefer the song on the Klipsch but that is probably because its too techno for me on the JBL and I prefer the percussion drowning out the techno on the Klipsch (lol).
JBLs always tend to be a bit more bass heavy. That said, LF is usually a lot cleaner in the Klipsch. It's a trade off and personal preference def comes into play quite a bit.
Nashville wins in every video i've watched. In the first song, the warmth in the singer's voice is in the Klipsch. In the JBL, the singing voice becomes over-processed. Also, the higher strings of the guitar become too echo on the JBL. The first song, the JBL is a disaster.
