  • In this video clip, I explained how to calculate the appropriate power capability for a transformer core size EE25/10/6 design for a Flyback converter. At first, we need to analyze for the product of Wa*Ac. Wa is the core window area, and Ac is the center core area. The WA*Ac product unit is in cm^4. Second, we need to calculate the right side equation [Po*Dcma/Kt*Bmax*Fsw]. Po is the output power. Dcma is current density (circular mil / Amp) and is preset between 500 to 750. Use Dcma=750 for this design. For Flyback Kt is either 0.00033 single winding or 0.00025 multiple winding. Max Flux saturation 2000G. Fsw is switching frequency chosen by the designer. If both equations are equal, the power output design is suitable for the chosen power. Hope you learn something from this clip.
