    You are the only person that I've found that figured out that the only hard parts are removal and inserting the bulbs. Everyone else just glosses over the hard parts and over explains the simplest parts.
    Thank you for understanding why this is a nerve wracking enough of a task to even warrant looking up a RUclips video!

      Yay Mary Ellen! I'm 70yo female and nobody ever showed me how to change a fluorescent tube bulb so naturally I was a little anxious about it. Seeing your comment and watching this simple yet very detailed video has given me all the confidence I need to get the job done!

    • @maryellendawson9329

      You go girl! You can do it! The hardest part is the length of the 4’ bulb makes it difficult to be in the middle and see each end to place them correctly. Be careful!

      I have to stand in my utility sink and look up at the fixture which is awkward. Holding the tubes up is a little painful as I have physical issues....BUT I removed both tubes with no difficulty because I remembered the helpful turning instructions. Turn towards me to lock and turn away to unlock and free the bulb. Best instructional video about this topic 🤍💡

    You have probably heard it a hundred times now, but I really appreciate the step-by-step! I watched dozens of videos before I found yours and every single one already had the fixture open. That was the part I was stumped on! It's obvious now that I see it, but I was so scared that I was going to break it if I played around with it! I went to a school that had a broken latch and the "door" hung open, that one was too high up too be a real issue, but this one would hit me in the face every time I walked into the kitchen if I broke it and it hung open. 😂 Thank you SO MUCH for not assuming we have all been around these lights enough to know how to maintain them! You are appreciated, and videos like yours are why I have not ditched RUclips yet! 😁

    Let me share something you didnt have to do with you viewers. In my case it was a real tight squeeze to get the new bulbs in. There were two slot holes on both ends of the light case.After about a hour I fugured out the only way to get the new bulbs in was to stick one end of the light into the empty slot, and then place the other end into the light socket, and then pull the other end out of the slot and then slide it over into the socket. The shit was hard but I saved alot of money doing it myself. And it worked. 😜

    Your video was very helpful and allowed me to get my bulbs changed easily. I do have one constructive comment, though. I think it would have been better to describe the turning of the bulbs as either clockwise or counterclockwise, instead of turning left and right. Depending on how you are standing, left and right seems harder to understand. Otherwise, thanks a lot.

    • @SKLIFEstyle
      @SKLIFEstyle  2 года назад

      I would assume so. I would most certainly cut off power first. May just have to dislodge something, or need to replace that side which shouldn't be too bad with the drop ceiling but still not fun. I have never had to repair one though I must say that, but they do sell the parts. I'd imagine more of a pain just trying to install the new one up in the air versus having the whole unit on the table in front of you which will be the biggest challenge and most time consuming.**SK**

    I have the same brand (Philips Alto) but in a SKINNY, under-cabinet bulb, and the housing has no room for even small fingers to get a grip over and around it. I notice that the end brackets are very slightly notched for an easier grip but it’s still scary - I have had fluorescent bulbs shatter on me before. Any suggestions?

    • @SKLIFEstyle
      @SKLIFEstyle  3 года назад

      If you have one of those rubber mats to pop open jars you could fold it and use it the long way down the bulb to have grip and have a good portion to turn it with..maybe use your other hand as a prop, to keep it settled while you lift off with the rubber and place it back down for small.like 1/4 in turns. That or wear safety goggles and cut proof rubber gloves for decent dexterity and use both hands to roll it one way or the other and again little 1/8 or 1/4 in turns...and I would probably suggest the safety glasses either way.**SK**

    my problem is i can't get it out of the casing to take it completely out and get a new one in the lip of the casing is in the way my fixture is like urs how do you get it actually over the casing is there a hole or bed somewhere i can't see to have one end shorter so it comes out of the casing?

    • @SKLIFEstyle
      @SKLIFEstyle  Год назад

      When you mean casing, like the housing or whole box itself, is that what you mean? Sometimes undoing some to the left/right and sliding them to one side of the housing will give you room to angle one enough to slip one side out and then the other. I have had the same issue where it seems impossible to get the bulb to come down, bit of a pain to unclip 1 or 2 the others, but makes taking them out much easier. Thanks for watching. So if I didn't want to twist it to turn the bulb on, would the bulb slide out and not be secure? I'd like to limit the lighting in my classroom.

    • @SKLIFEstyle
      @SKLIFEstyle  Месяц назад

      @mariellakelly6017 it will rest in there, so if it's already on and you twist it to turn off, you still have to pull it down a bit. Always a chance it could fall out later if they're is shaking or a disturbance, so you would want to open the windows carefully incase one did come loose. Very unlikely, but worth noting. But also you can twist it to turn off and not completely turn it so it's ready to be pulled out. Then it's locked in but not getting power, that's perhaps the best option.

    Question: I work in a place with a few dozen of these above my head all day. Some others have taken them out before just above their work space. It is possible to just turn the light bulb so it's off and NOT take it out? Or will it fall out? I don't want to remove the bulbs if I don't have to.

    • @SKLIFEstyle
      @SKLIFEstyle  2 года назад

      Yea you can def turn them and watch the light go out but still stay connected. Takes a tiny bit of force to slide them in and out. Enough that they won't move otherwise.**SK**

    Ok cool… Quick question, though: doesn’t turning the bulb left or right depend on which end of the fixture you’re looking at?
    (ie. Turning one end of the bulb clockwise turns the other end counter-clockwise… am I missing something?)

    im a bit late on this but what if the opening for the prongs isn't aligned right? my boyfriend took them out easily but neither of us can figure out how to slide the new ones back in bc the line isnt in the right place 😕

    • @SKLIFEstyle
      @SKLIFEstyle  11 месяцев назад

      You should be able to adjust the track for the prongs a little and it shouldn't be a problem. Like spin it in the direction you need to great the inlet with the opening aligned.

    Do I need to change all of the bulbs at the same time? If I only replace 3 out of 4 will the rest of the bulbs go dim? I change 3 of the bulbs but now the new ones are dimmer than they were when I initially put them in

    • @SKLIFEstyle
      @SKLIFEstyle  4 года назад

      You shouldn't have to change them all, but if there is an issue in the wiring or perhaps the new bulbs pulled to much and now partially burned out already. I dont even have most of my bulbs in just so its not too bright. Hard to fully diagnose, but I would say try to add a new fourth just to see what happens..It wouldn't be the case normally but could be in yours. Interested to see the outcome, have to keep me updated. Thanks for watching, please Subscribe! **SK**

    What if the lights lined up but won't twist

    • @SKLIFEstyle
      @SKLIFEstyle  3 года назад

      Then I guess you're in luck that you have light, but if the framing is ever shook the bulb will perhaps fall out. If you have plastic cover like I do then it would only drop an inch an sit there. If you don't have a cover I would be nervous that at some point it comes falling out. Perhaps take a Qtip or toothpick and see if there is some grim in there or something causing it to stick, worth a shot.**SK**

    You started the video with the bulb in the fixture.I want to see how you get the bulbs in there before putting the prongs in the opening. The basement light fixture is very old. Two ballesters are in the way.

      I have been planning to remake this video I will try to add maneuvering the bulbs in and out of the fixture as well, but unblinking thr others and rolling them to the end along with kiddy cornering the bulb you are trying to put in helps a lot.

    Every video on this I've come across, everyone's bulbs just slip right in...I had to pull off some weird angles just to get my bulbs out...I cannot for the life of me get the new ones in ( yes they're the correct size) I wish there was a tutorial to get bulbs in for fixtures that don't offer any room ( like a hole or something) to get the total length in the fixture

    • @SKLIFEstyle
      @SKLIFEstyle  2 года назад

      Into the socket? Once in a while there isn't a lot of room it feels like when other bulbs are in and you are trying to get one in the middle. Sometimes easier to remove the outer ones to give you more space to get them in diagonally and then straighten out and slip them in and then but the outer ones in.**SK**
