    I like the concept of this series! A suggestion if you continue on with it is for both you and Fabien (or some other guest) to give your opinion on whether the wine is over or underrated. You could both have queue cards or signs that you hold up at the same time with either "overrated" or "underrated", which gives the added element of being able to have some banter about differing opinions.

    Masseto at $800/bbl, I've not had it either, but Le Volte or le Serre Nuove (Ornellaia) and Guidalberto (Sassacaia) are where the great under rated ST reds are

    I did a wine tasting of Supertuscans last week in London and these my top 5:
    1-masseto 2004
    2-SASSICAlA 2006
    3-Tignanello 2009
    4-Ornellaia 2015 & Solaia 2017
    We must have a similar taste as I also preferred Tignanello over O&S.. but the vintage factor may have played a role..O&S were probably still too young

    love this! agree on most. especially Tignanello. what’s your opinion on Flaccianello? that’s my favourite Tuscan wine. some people don’t put it in the Super Tuscan category though, since it’s 100% Sangiovese.

  • @welshtoro3256
    @welshtoro3256 Год назад

    Fun video Matt. I think the common theme here is price/quality. All of these wines are decent stuff but the elevated prices make us demand more. Being 'blown away' by every bottle of wine we open is a tall ask but experienced drinkers have in their minds an idea of what to expect for the money. I really believe it effects our opinion. Export prices for these wines are steep but they can be hardly any different in Tuscany itself. I remember being in Montalcino and the prices were well and truly aimed at the tourists. The wine is very good but the prices are steep. That's the story for a lot of countries including France and the U.S.A. If you want real underrated gems you have to look under the radar. WT

    Depending on your budget, Sassicaia, Ornellaia, Solaia are all great wines. Quite a step above Tignanello. If you have the money, they are not overrated at all IMO. I also like Fotalloro more than Rancia, the older 2006-2007 vintages, haven't tried the younger ones.

    Masseto costs 1000$ in Germany. Why should I buy this if some of the best Merlots of the world cost about half price? Why should I buy Petrus if La Conseillante get's the same rating? I once drank Chateau Latour, awsome wine! But I can remember dozens of moments I enjoyed wine of this level for a fraction of the price. I remember some video you made about value. And I am straight on your line: I can buy Tignanello for 100$, it's still a blend with Sangiovese. I like it very much. So why should I pay for a Bordeaux blend from Toscana double the price of Chateau Montrose?

I found a 1996 Masetto, its big Merlot. We had it since 97. One of our Brunello fans I gave a deal fer 300. Other wise its a trophy on the wall. But thats how I had the last bit in the bottle. Finally one who tells some truth, evidently they haven't bought you yet. All Supertuscans are overrated, especially that little wine called Tignanello. Scores and prizes paid handsomely by buying self-styled experts for pale hyperalcoholic imitations of the great Bordeaux. For 100 euro per bottle you can also buy it in presumptuous when so want to imitate the Bordeaux prices are really ridiculous.
