People hated the Evo 10 because it doesn't have what makes Evo an Evo, the engine. Evo 1-9 had a pretty much the same engine. Well, an evolution (get it?) on the same platform, but the X had a completely different engine.
@@dustojnikhummeri always thought the original reason for the evo models was so that mitsubishi could make changes to the production lancer models and homologate those changes for their group a wrc cars. for me, the evo 7 was the last 'true' evo, since that was the last evo that provided the basis for mitsubishi's wrc entry. after that, they used the base model lancer as the foundation for their 2004 entry, and a few years later they were out of the sport. so imo, the 'evo' name has nothing to do with the engine, it started out as a homologation thing, but it turned into purely a marketing label from the evo 8 onwards.
Meanwhile the Lancer Evo is long dead and Subaru has axed the STI, and they barely market the WRX anymore whereas all their effort has gone to their "outdoorsy" Wilderness sub-brand. Meanwhile, the Germans are producing super powered compacts like the BMW M2, Audi RS3 and Mercedes A45 AMG.
I love my evo x. It might be old but it’s not obsolete. I track mine every now and then. The active torque vectoring rear differential (mitsubishi calls it active yaw control) is what really helps it go around a corner so well.
Goes to show how close Subaru was shutting down, how Mitsubishi had an AMAZING lead in the market and how despite this lead, it was Mitsubishi that is shutting its doors.
In the end of that episode the soft Subaru is faster than the sharp as a razor evo? Interesting conclusion. Either it means that stiffness and focus doesn't necessarily translate into being faster than, I guess, being balanced? I love the Evo. The 1-3 are my dream cars and I have a Black 1 GSR, I never understood the hate on the Evo 10, those people are on something. The style is amazing, the 4B11T is the modern 4G63T, and the technology was brilliant! Before people say the 8-10 aren’t “rally cars,” they’re wrong, they used the 8 in WRC along with the 7, and the 9 and the 10 were used in rallying, just not by the works team (Privateers) as Mitsu pulled the plug on WRC during 2005. They are still rally cars
For the times on the board they tested the FQ300 rather than the FQ360 on display here because it has the same 300hp the subaru has... and it got beaten by it... I remember I was amazed at that fact, and so was Clarkson :D
My theory is by the time boy racers grew up and were old enough to buy their fav rally car, the Evo had been discontinued so they were left with no choice but to settle for the STi

The hatchback STI is the best IMO, it was shorter and felt more nimble than the sedan versions. The Evos were always better on paved surface and Subie is better on snow/dirt.
I was at Bathurst in 08 or 09 for the 12 Hour. It was the world competition debut of the X. they cleaned up the field, took out top honours and most of the runner up spots as well, and there still reasonably competitive today. I love my old school cars (I have a valiant Pacer 265Hemi) but the 09 Ralliart Lancer (EVOX's little brother) that we own is such a capable and confidence inspiring car (and as cool as f&%k). What modern overpriced techno wizard shitter do you replace it with? Keep it serviced and maintained going forward is the only option I think.
I’m from Australia. I rarely see either of these cars on the road anymore, a pity at how the world has changed, our roads are clustered by Utes which have become the new norm here, SUV’s and dull EV’s, gone are the days of sporty sedans like our Holden Commodore V8’s and Ford Falcon turbo 6’s.

Some personal opinions of mine: 1) EVO X GSR is the superior car, yes the 6th gear is tall but way better reliability trans than Dual Clutch (SST) that is expensive to repair and maintain. We are talking 6k-8k for rebuilding it alone and not including reteaching the SST. 2) EVO X computer is superior to XI, however XI is more analog. Yes EVO X is the prefect all round daily. Timeless design of the 2008-2017 Lancer GS platform makes EVO X still look classy. 3)700HP 4B11T aren't common, however 400HP can be attained with just a mods that don't deplete your wallet. 4B11T is a great engine and it's non turbocharged siblings 4B10, 11 & 12 are still alive and proven to have bulletproof reliability. 4) AYC Pump failure is common on EVO X and people don't fix it since it's gonna break again anyways.

My 2011 Evo 10 was an incredible machine. Mhi-18k turbo,e85, made 450 whp reliability and is still on the road with the new owner to this day.
