Sometimes I think about how many members of The Academy thought that Natalie Portman learned all of ballet in a couple months for the movie Black Swan. And then I see a real ballerina and you can see the LIFETIME of training in every muscle 😭

A big part of Natalie's academy award "for your consideration" campaign had to do with promoting the idea that Natalie did all her own dancing and went from being a non dancer to being en pointe dancing in this film, a feat worthy of actings highest honors. But Sarah Lane did all the dancing in the film and Natalie's face was superimposed on, she was not allowed to talk about her involvement, something that she did not know would be required when she signed on. The Ballet world (especially in 2009) was very insular, and felt this was a betrayal of professional dancers's skills and life's work. This was such a moment in pop culture-so seldom that dance movies come out- that obviously, ten years on-people are still commenting about Black Swan in random youtube ballet videos. I feel really a bit horrified of how people in the comments just tell that they're just here because her body is sexy and things like that.. I mean she is really pretty and has a great body but saying that your just watching ths vid because of that is super respectless and then even telling it in the Comments as if it were something good.. 😤 Ballettdancers are always reduced on their Body! i mean, what the heck? She's also super nice and she explained the exercises super well but no one talks about that. This viedeo was made for entertaining puprose and to exercise. I feel like some people missunderstood that and think it's a soft porn. Some very random but very cool videos have been recommended during the quarantine. What a gift for us to be invited into the world of a ballerina performing exercises at home. As someone who knows nothing about ballet this was amazing and mind bending as it seemed to defy physics.
In love with her leg muscles. I wish I had the motivation and self discipline to get a proper workout routine going. I have a lot of respect for professional ballet dancers, it takes a lot of talent and willpower to become so skilled

My ballet school posts videos of our teachers everyday so we can keep on practising, it's great but I do miss real classes, the camaraderie and laughs. Yet it is weirdly comforting to see a professional dancer doing just about what I do on my living room, and especially to see how her ankles wobble ever so slightly when doing a relevé on demi-pointes in second ! My ankles wobble just like Isabella Boylston's, imagine that !🤣
