    You have to add Ras Kass. He's flow, patterns and voice alone was way ahead of his time in 1996. His album 'Soul on Ice" was a written master piece. BIG would never been able to get on TV or radio for that matter if he decided to go down a cerebral path as Ras Kass.

      Crazy to think that people at that time considered it a sophomore slump and didn't acknowledge the greatness. From what I remember at the time, that album came and went fast, unlike illmatic. Goes to show you the level of the rap game at that time. Jay-Z reasonable doubt was also not recognized till its later years.

      It was Written was huge when it came out. Number 1 on Billboard album Charts for 4 weeks straight. Went 2x platinum in 2 months. Street Dream single went Gold, If I ruled the world went platinum. Nas was one of the cats runnjng 96. He was definitely on BIG level! Especially in 96

      Because of the East-West war, I rode with the East Coast... and yeah, I copped Me Against the World and All Eyez On Me.... but I was mostly banging East Coast artists around that time. Personally, the three kings lyrically in '96 were Nas, GZA and Black Thought.

Pac was bumping all through the streets when A.I.O.M released in February that year and when Hit em up came out a couple months later it took over. And im in the Bronx and that hit em up track was getting major spin in cars and boom boxes. Then of course Makaveli album late in the year.       Nobody is rewriting history for BIG. Tupac`s ALL EYEZ ON ME came out in February 1996 and that was one of Tupac`s best albums, but BIG was still hot from his READY TO DIE album that came out in `94. By the end of 96 ALL EYEZ was still bangin, but hip hop fans on both coast couldn`t wait for BIG`s double cd LIFE AFTER DEATH once they hear it was coming out in 97. Nas is great ,but he wasn`t hotter than BIG in `96, No rapper was hotter than BIG in that time frame imo not even NAS when he came out with his 2nd album. BIG was that dude in hip hop
