This video had s taken HOURS to upload! I started about 20 hours ago! Sorry its late- I don't know why!
Pop over to Patreon and listen to the Advent Readings over there for just $1 until the end of Advent - it is going really well and I'm enjoying telling the stories every day from my New Zealand journal very much

I think the last posting day for international parcels is today, still time for a UK posted item, but not for much longer!

The RUclips channel I talked about - The Happy Pear - is here
/ happypeargreystones
watch The Hairy Bikers 'Northern Exposure' here

Thank you for all your comments and observations, I read them all - and here in this long video - I get to reply to a few
The music is The dance of the sugar plum fairy - which I am getting rather sick of to be honest!
Ha ha!!
PS I spent the rest of the afternoon finishing the quilting of the baby blanket and now it is ready to bind!
Kate I’d be lost without your company. You can be the only voice I hear all day and you’re so friendly and kind. Thank you
thank you - this means so much to me, take care xxxxx
Mary, that's exactly how I feel. New to The Last Homely House since October 2022. I fell into the lime green sofa and knew I was welcomed. I am watching all the wonderful videos of the channel.
Kate, I am so grateful for your channel. I love your videos. I recently lost my beloved dog and I find your channel comforting and soothing. ❤️❤️
Very true …. easy listening … and a warm friendly feeling 😊
Are you alone? I am too. Saying hello, bc it matters, YOU matter. I'm not crying about aloneness, but as you know, it can be lonely at times.❤👍
Dear Kate, ramble on because it is like we are good neighbors and I’ve come to visit you to just chat. I find your days interesting no matter how trivial you might think they are. I’m a widow and my children grown. We can all appreciate another friend. Enjoy your evening. ♥️
I'm watching these videos in January 2021 and having a ball. Thank you so so much Kate. I've been unwell for a bit and now I can relax and enjoy being confined to bed and am making progress which is fantastic. I recommend you to friends and family neighbours and everybody because your videos remind me of when my late mum or one of my six sisters or brothers and I would sit and chat while doing some mundane everyday task. It feels so comforting and homely that I bless the day you first came up in my RUclips! I think God and the angels present us with what we need just when we need it most!
I love that you are using thread from your mother on your granddaughter’s quilt. A little bit of your granddaughter’s quilt from her great grandmother. I view quilts as heirloom. :)
Our grandmother made mincemeat and the Christmas time was the time for mincemeat pies. She put brandy in her mincemeat and it was lovely….. watching this makes me think back on those lovely Christmas’s and the getting ready and then seeing all my cousins….. amazing times we had then from an great grandma …
Just recently found your channel. Love love watching. From usa, indiana
I have found that a pair of yellow sunglasses worn at night helps cut the glare of the lights. I use a pair of clip-ons and they really do help me see. Im diabetic and I see a sparkle ring around the light that covers my whole view and the yellow helps cut it.
“Gardening is daily warfare” 🤣🤣 That was hysterical and all gardeners would most certainly agree! Thanks for a lovely video.💫
Has anyone noticed the cats shadows as they walk the ledge outside behind Kate. Love the videos, I'm a new member of your fan following. You and Anna laughing together is the best thing to watch if your feeling down. Thank you!
Chris in Big Bear California💞
The shadow cats made me laugh.
You are a new discovery for me and I am enjoying it so very much. My quilt group has heard my enthusiastic testimonials to look you up! We are beekeepers of 4 hives and gardeners. My husband said,”she’d be a good neighbor for you!”
You chicken is making me chuckle, strutting her stuff along the windowsill 😊
I am still catching up with all the videos. Started with the first one and making my way through. I love sitting on the couch and working on my projects long with you. Not a quilter but love the things you do. Such a wide variety of things. I am crafty as well but you take the cake. I sensed no fear in you from the beginning, and you just go with it. Keep it up.
I’m enjoying “ sitting across the table from you “ while you talk and sew .❤️
Kate I feel as if I am sitting across from you, helping quilt this gift for Agnes, just friends chatting and visiting while doing an enjoyable task. You give so freely of yourself and I enjoy every video immensely. Thank you for all the sharing!😍❤️
thank you - I rad this often and it makes me smile every time! You can come and sit on ,my virtual sofa any time - pass the biscuits along! xxxx
Ditto...
"2020 has a nice ring to it." Hmmmm, hindsight showed up with lunatic laughter when you said that. It would have been so much worse without you posting these. Thank you for being such a wonderful sharing person. Your kindness saw many of us through very scary and lonely times.
Kate I’ve only recently come across your channel, it was recommended by RUclips in my side bar and I’ve binge watched ever since! I smiled when you said you were looking forward to 2020 and thought “if only you knew!” I could listen to you all day long, you’re very therapeutic. Take care and keep doing what you’re doing, your blessed in many, many ways x
Ive just watched it and thought the same!
I said the very same thing to my daughter as I was watching this video. We had no idea.
I'm saving some of your videos to watch in increments, in my "secret time" I allot for myself. If I'm interrupted I save these videos until the house is quiet for a bit, and I snuggle up with my body pillow, and savor the chance to watch your videos in peace. I love that the people who join you in your journey of creating beautiful, special, unique, works of brilliant ART, are such amazing, loving, supportive, people with impeccable taste. Thank you, you really are touching lives in a very positive way. And in my case, from across the pond. I love it.
Kate I laughed out loud when you said “I cant do everything, there are many things I cannot do,, I just only show the ones that come out ok! 😝😝😝
I love watching your videos, you make me feel like I'm family.
The animal hanging for Agnes is just that extra be special😍😍
Sorry - one more thought. I have become addicted to your everyday chats. When you go back to once a week I will suffer from withdrawal. Lol
I kn ow - but just think how much less stress that will be for me! ha ha!!! I'm all caught up on pre-recored videos now - so I have more to make - for here and Patreon! but I'm no quitter! xxxxx
Kate, you are an inspiration to me. I want to spend my days the way you do. I am adjusting to retirement and your lifestyle is my goal. Thanks for your videos.
I do too, recently retired, just need to move the husband out to spend my days as I want. lol
I wanted to say I like when you answer questions or replies this way. It’s so personal and I really really enjoy “our chats” ❤️
As always, I love the chat you did today. Please do take a walk. It's good to get out in that sun when you can. Enjoy your walk.
Watching you videos is never like watching paint dry! It is like chatting with a nice neighbor, a wonderful friend, having a cup of tea and do something with the hands. 😊 Love from Germany 🇩🇪
😂 the reason why you like your cooking videos („I have to tidy up the kitchen“) - it is the reason why I love visitors. 🙋🏼
Just what I needed this morning here in Ohio, such a wonderful chat from you. Working on the rag quilt I am making for my son, who is 48. Just thinking time slips by way too quickly and you remind me to slow down and enjoy my day! Enjoying your videos so very much. Love the little angel from the market and will look so wonderful on your tree. Why anyone would watch you and then complain is just crazy. I agree, just move on and find something that suits you. Merry merry soon to be Christmas Kate.
we keep making gifts for our kids don't we! these days I ask what they want though! ha ha! I still haven't got a tree! I must do something about that! xxxx
I love the altered book!! I have made a few of these and they are a lot of work. Good choice.
Oh I love .. LOVE .. Mushrooms and Leek! I wish i could taste your delicious food! Thank you and your quilts are fun and I love whatever you are doing, inside or outside, - its just way you interact with us! Its fun and many of us feel we are Right Here! So Thank you many times because i love you include us and feel close as a friend(s).. - its a wonderful way to react with you! much more care about us, too! Love you! Kate! and keep us involved! Thank you🌸😄
Hello Kate, I've been watching for about almost two weeks now, sent over from Arne and Carlos. I started watching them when someone suggested they were doing a knit along just after covid started. I just moved from a busy city to a rural environment from one province to another buying my first house. I'll be 68 in May 2021. I knit, sew, weave, crochet and have done macrame, counted cross stitch and sewed my sons winter snow suit and mine when he was little. I've just become addicted to Frankie Brown's Ten Stitch Blanket where you start with a square, make two corners, and you keep going around and around until it's as big as you want or you run out of yarn. I love your show, even though you might be busy, I find the sound of your voice very relaxing as I sit here and knit watching whatever you're busy with. I'm having tea. I love that large patchwork curtain along your window. I've especially liked the one where you are tidying your 33 drawers, however I can't seem to watch them in chronological order as RUclips seems screwed up. My son moved to England just before covid. He's just across the river from Liverpool. It's been lovely chatting at your table.
There are just so many negative people in the world...my dad's mother was a lovely woman...a Baptist minister in a small church in Iowa. She was one of the first women who went to Moody Bible College in Chicago and truly lived the sweetest life. She always said she felt so sorry for people who only saw the negative in the world because they must be so unhappy....I think that's probably true. She said the real test was to find something good in everything....guess she was a type of Pollyanna in real life! When I find myself tending to be more negative I find she pops into my mind and I try to stop. If I find something I don't like I just move on...quietly!! Like a grown up! I love every thing you do!!
Look at you Kate. How your separating
your threads. What a wonderful idea. Thank you. I learn so much from your videos.
I do enjoy your chat videos Kate. In face I like all of them. I am not getting tired of the introduction. It’s joyful. Thank you for taking the time to do these.
give it a few more days! ha ha!!! xxxxx thank you
Loved how you split the thread using the scissors! very clever. Enjoying the chats. And the cats.
I'm glad you're going show the butternut squash. I'm quite intrigued!
In Australia, we call them a butternut pumpkin, not Squash😏
Our political situation here in the US has been so difficult these last 3 years so I sympathize with you in the UK. Much love to you and your family. Your videos are such a warm, cozy place to stop and have a cup of tea. ♥️🎄☕️
I love your long chatty videos!! Full of updates and little tidbits of your daily life! So happy to sit on your virtual sofa whenever you have the time to share.........
Our dear Kate-you have so many friends. We love visiting with you
Dear Kate. Thank you so much for the ‘chat’ today. It’s so peaceful and just right for knitting socks as I sit with you on your ‘virtual sofa’. Pass the bickies...🥰 go gently. Fiona x
Yes, it does feel as if I'm sittting across the table from you. Watching 3 years later ☺
I don’t like driving at night either maybe check for night driving glasses.
I'm watching from Argyll Scotland just now ❤️🥰 from Washington State ,So happy to be here for 3 months .I enjoy hanging out with you no matter where I'm staying. Love the chat videos as much as all the others . Something nice to watch while getting over my jetlag 🥴🤪😴😂 day two
Yes , my cross stitching 😮😮 went by the wayside also once I
Seasons greetings Kate I like the chatty Sunday’s
Kate, I am 71 years old, Michigan USA and I am listening to you 3 years later, sitting in my basement craft room looking at the sunshine. It's 12:45 p and it's time for a walk. :-)
Kate, thank you for the thread tip using the scissor handle. You have taken a great frustration away from me! 👍🏻
What an amazing venue for a Christmas market!! I would love to see that in person!! OMG - I love the wool products that you got - that hot pad was amazing, & the angel - super sweet! 💜💜💜
Such a treat to see you while working on my colorwave quilt. A "news blackout" is very beneficial. 😘
essential! I feel much better not watching all the biased news coverage - concentrate on the things that you can change - and be kind xxxxxx
I've just watched some of your videos with my friend who lives in riding mill, she was unaware of your channel. She is so delighted that we've decided you have to be our new best friend! So enjoyable and lovely to relive Sadies kitten episodes and Eileen's swim! Jane a lovely day Kate and Thankyou for all of your hard work and for giving so much joy to us all. Lynne (Sunderland) xx
Hi From anuther Sunderland viewer.
Hello Lynne and Riding `Mill friend! waving! xxxxx
So glad I found you through arnie and Carlos. I justvkisten tonyiu and knitt or stitch while I listen to you.
You are timeless, enjoying this advent 3 years later. xoxo
I made my own geli plate from a vid on RUclips and saved $. I just love printing papers layering colours with great textures like old world walls as one of my teachers says.
My sentiments precisely about veggies.
Am watching your vid after a hard days work (because of my sore back) and am so comforted, thank you bunches!✌️🇨🇦❤️🙏
The felted items are lovely, and the book. Please make an angel.
Don’t get overdone though.
Family and friends take priority. Godbless.
I have an angel pattern in my head I'd like to do - but time might overtake me - still so much to do this Advent! - next year! xxxx
Hi Kate. I’m binge watching your episodes to catch up. Regarding the thumbs down, some people likely hit it by accident. I did it once and was horrified - but glad I noticed and could change it. Some people with mobility problems or vision issues might not realize they’ve done it. That’s what I like to believe. 🥰
How could anyone give any of your videos a thumb down. I watch them daily. I love them all because it’s like spending precious time with a lovely faraway friend. Thank you for being you ❤️
I love every thing you make and post but I really enjoy just watching you share with us. I feel I am sitting in the room with you. Thanks for sharing about the rescue hens I have often wondered about them. What a way to start my Monday morning.
lovely! xxx
I like dear little Norma. She washed over in the windowsill and then came over so very carefully and wanted just to come and be by you and rub on your hand. Bless her. Lovely video. I loved the one making the doll for Agnes too. I hope I get to see how she enjoyed her but glad you had so much fun making her and shared the experience. Stitch on..
I just love watching your videos. Such a variety of things you do.
Catching up on some of your previous (enjoyable) videos. In this quilting video, done at Christmas 2019, you said “looking forward to 2020 ... it has a nice ring to it”. How little do we know what’s up ahead! We could never have anticipated what occurred! I’m a lady your age who has learned to enjoy today, the moment God has given me, and I believe you do the same. Making the most of every day, every beauty in nature, and every dear relationship. Good on you!
Sorry Kate. 2020 has been the worst! Trying to stay positive.
Yes the music is quite charming
I too look forward to videos woth a good friend. Thank you for sharing your days with me.
Love your house soap with chimney! Bet it smells natural- thank you, Kate! - Sandra Myer💕here it is Oct3-2023
Five thumbs UP from me!!!!! Thank you. I so appreciate you.
Peg M xxxxx
Thanks for you news! Though I am from the USA, I was informed that a dear and former teaching colleague from Nottingham is in hospital suffering from dementia and Covid! Not good news from the U.K. Would appreciate prayers for my friend. Thanks and look forward to “The Last Homely House” in 2021.
180 C is 350 F. 200C is 400F. I have fridge magnets with gas mark/ C/F conversions, and one of cooking equivalencies...ml and grams to ounces . Think I maybe got it at Lakeland!
I had a good laugh watching the cat, she's thinking you're talking to her but then realizes you're talking to the camera. 😸😸😸
Hi. Gabby from the US here. I learned about LEEK soup from a book I read about the French. Love it,
Thank you Kate for your time & effort.
Love the crafts. Such smart ideas.i.'m going to try the hot pad one.🇨🇦❤️U
Cornflour is the sauce thickening flour. Too much and your sauce becomes like a jelly in consistency something my eldest doesn't like.
Great video😍😍😍
I just have to tell you Kate I find you so relaxing and enjoyable! I love Tolkien and Harry Potter as you mentioned in a previous video! I received the books from my husband on our honeymoon 38 years ago and still enjoy reading them! Also I love sitting on the purple sofa with pink pillows sipping tea and knitting while watching your videos. Thanks for taking the time to chat to me!
on radio 4 people was chatting about how they have a go at making things have a go and see how it turns out i want to build a summer house out of Wood plates and veg boxes. All what you do is great food, fabrics keep up with the fantastic videos love sent. Merry Christmas
I am amazed by your curtains! I tend to shy away from large projects but they [the curtains] inspire me to just get on doing and then I can enjoy all the color! I so look forward to your videos. You have a gift of a wonderful nonjudgemental manner and it is quite comforting! Sadly, some of the blogs I loved are gone due to the negative remarks from viewers. I think there is an attitude these days that one has "the right" to be rude and I think it is a way of covering up low self esteem. It's an epidemic!! Thank you for all you do!
I have stopped watching some of the more opinionated people - I think if you can't be kind - then why bother? The curtains give me so much pleasure - son even though they took forever - I am so pleased I completed them! xxxxx thank you
I am admiring those curtains as well. One day I will start on my own.
How did you make the curtains ??
Hellooooo!!!!! Nice watching you! 🐈❄️🐈❄️🐈❄️
What a clever use of your scissors to slip the threads! I'm definitely going to remember that trick.
Catching up on some older post! Hope to see a new one tomorrow!
Every year I’m gonna start my Christmas sewing early and every year I get later.
Good evening Kate, loving your chanel. Have picked up knitting needles again after probably 10/15 years of not knitting. Making the mitre blanket and loving it. Planning a day with my mum tomorrow and am aiming to introduce her to it as well, she's into her 80's and is complaining of stiff fingers so maybe the knitting will help her as well. Loving your curtains and easy manner, so sitting her on the lime green sofa with a purple patchwork cushion at my back and a lovely jewel coloured stool for me feet, right cuppa on the left and knitting in my hands, what are we chatting about today then Kate ...
I am a new follower , I live in the United States, in Ohio we are in fall now I love it. Thank you for all the great info you give. Always a thumbs up.
Thanks for the long chat! I was able to sit and finish binding a baby quilt. It's a miracle to see three out of four cats at once, especially Cat Rita. :) Thank you for taking us to the Christmas fair! I'm sure you charmed several people into buying lovely things. The little house soap was my favorite of your purchases. On the the 16th!
Thanks for this lovely 'visit'. I can always pick out when you respond to one of my comments. So much fun. And it's today now so congratulations on your daughters birthday. Happy birthday Martha! 🎉🎉🎂🎁💕💕💕xxxx
They are in Scotland! I enjoy these videos too! xxxxx
I often think how nice it would be to come to the Last homely House East of the Sea and sit with you whilst you work and just chat. I would, of course, lend a hand and keep your tea refilled and hot. (NOTE: Not inviting myself, I just think on it) You have a very calming way about you. And you have cats. and chickens. A blessed Advent and Happy Christmas to you and yours!
I do my carrots like hours and sometimes I add strips of turnip with the carrots and coat them in a bit of orange juice and butter and maple syrup. I live in Canada and we make our own maple syrup. I put it glazes for salmon and my hams...love your videos. So peaceful and relaxing. You and Norma crack me up!
Aww you answered my comments. I sell knits on Etsy and knit for hours most nights, having to keep an eye on my needles now and then. You are often my company when I knit, so I love long videos (I'm currently replaying all the hen videos, which I love). Thanks, dear Kate 💚💚💚
Que tiernos 🐈🐈 ellos son puro amor 💕💕
I just feel so good watching your you tube. When I’m not tired I do get moving but in the night when I want to unwind I listen to your story telling and just feel so good! I’m Claudia from NC
Sorry I missed you at the Christmas Fair Kate... I was heating up vats of lovely soup for the punters and washing up in the kitchen so I missed a lot of the action but there was a great atmosphere in the Abbey. It is always a fun event and we welcomed more visitors this year than ever before. Fx
Am adoring the mogs - lovely to see Cat Rita and Prudence and of course the amazing Norma xxxx
I am enjoying the advent vids looking forward to the the stuffed butternut
started making altered books and am loving them. I have done many other crafts and have sewn and quilted all my life. love all of it. I so enjoy watching you and hearing you joy for life.. Thanks for sharing.
I really enjoy your videos. It's like we are visiting and having a conversation. Thank you.
Oh I absolutely love those felted thingss you purchased......we need to make those....
Hello from Georgia USA. I have recently found your channel and I am enjoying the simplicity of your life. I can relate to it because I was raised on a farm where we had a few of the benefits of modern living. We had no indoor plumbing. I am a quilter and I am really enjoying the stitching and chats. You mentioned the difficulty of driving at night...I bought a pair of yellow lens glasses that fit over my glasses that help with the glares at night. I also wear them when it rains and you have the heavy apray coming from the autos in front of you. They are great. Many blessings
Hi Kate, your video wasn't too long for me! Enjoyed the company. I had to smile as I saw Rocky's shadow passing by the curtain from outside (I think thats the outside cats name). Enjoyed the market and your lovely purchases.
I don't know how I will be able to accept videos just once a week again, Kate. It has been such a delight sharing every day with you.
oh - I'm sorry - this has me on my knees if that helps you to transition to once a week! xxx ha ha ha!! xxx
No, certainly don't want that for you. Better once a week than to have you burn out altogether. Teaching, which I dearly loved, nearly did that to me. Now I am retired and crafting again. Thank you for inspiring me! ❤
Hi Kate. I'm so happy I found you. I'm fairly new to this place I live and I also retired so life has changed a lot for me. I don't know anyone here except my son and his family. My granddaughter who is 9 is my bestie. She's so funny in her ways. I have now adopted you as my new best friend. I love your chats and you are a lovely person. Thank for sharing your time with us😘😘😘😘😘♥
I love all your video's. You are so easily to listen to. You are a teacher! Thank You
Merry Christmas
There are so many you tube vids about making altered books, junk journals, travel journals, folios, etc. A fun craft that is addicting. Such great talent all over the world, shared to all the world. Your wool items are delightful, I'm enjoying your daily visits!!
Dear Kate, I love your felted treasures and this angel, of course. It is such a great joy to see and touch them. Especially in the christmas time. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful colours. Today is litha, but enchanted things are always in the right time. Such a joy, to find your chanel, to see your wonderful ideas around fibres and wool and all the stuff, where are all around you.
Lots of love! Erika
I'm watching your videos each day, I really enjoy ,thank you very much .
