Update on the copyright situation since I mentioned it in the video. I appealed the claim on this one and they approved it after a day or two which is super fast! So I won't have to edit down the songs/speed them up anymore. Thanks to everyone who let me know that the creators are cool with reactions
You should reacted to the updated version of the Cyclopes saga especially remember them! That animated has the first version published the second one however has a few extra bits like when Odysseus yells his name it sounds a lot angrier and emotional it’s amazing😮! (The Troy saga also has an updated version tho that ones a bit more similar to the original.)
Copyright can be crazy. When Jorge released the wisdom saga he did a livestream on his youtube of the whole musical. Right during the new music portion of the livestream it got copyright struck. Thankfully they had a new stream up within the hour.
I was so confused for a sec like wait what are you talking about then best boy polities dies and I’m just in shock I knew it was gonna happen but the pancake comment made it hurt more than usual
A lot of the fandom speculates that, based on his actions/way of phrasing things/the others checking on him, the cyclops might actually have been a child.
and based on the story to my knowledge. He was younger and bcs of this exclude him. That's why he got these sheep- to not be alone. (knowledge only gained through comments- may be wrong)
It’s not just speculation based on the songs. In certain translations of some of the original Greek epics that mention Polyphemus he is portrayed as quite young for a cyclops. While he may not have been a baby or a toddler, he was far from a full adult.
@@lunarbl4de476in others is an adult but a runt and was ostracized among the other cyclops and was given his sheep to be is only friends (that also explain why the others cyclops didn’t really care that much for his cries of help), so Ody either blinded a child having a tantrum about is dead pet or a incredibly sad and lonely dude.
One thing that makes remember them extra sad is the fact that they couldn't properly bury their comrades. In ancient Greece it was believed that if a person wasn't properly buried they couldn't pass into the underworld for 100 years, if they were forgotten before they could cross their spirits would fade. Ody is essentially saying in this song we must remember them so they can one day cross the styx.
The part where Polyphemus said "Take from you like you took from me" is actually true if you notice that Odysseys killed his favorite sheep and the Cyclops killed his best friend
Ten years. Ten years of not losing any men, and the very first to die is his friend from childhood. Him taking Polites’ headband (the headband is a constant across all fan animations). Then him and Athena falling out, someone else he saw as a friend. His electric guitar kicking up each time he’s emotional, and Athena straight up crushing him with her piano. Welcome to the Pain Gang, Weeby
Heres an additional sad point for you. The Cyclops says the line "You killed my sheep, my favorite sheep, dont you know the pain you sew is pain you reap" then proceeds to kill Odys best friend
So jorge had a company publish his music, then stiff him. He then went swifty and rerecorded under his own label and release. Might have been first company that struck.
I don’t know if anyone’s pointed it out here, but someone else noticed in Wolfy’s Remember Them animatic 20:00 that Odysseus looks like he’s drawing his sword across his neck when he gives his identity to the Cyclops, pretty much rubbing in that this is the exact moment that he dooms himself and his crew.
As Ody's lawyer, I'll defend him. They did kill the pet, but they had no idea it was one and thought it was a wild animal. As soon as they realized it was the Cyclops, they wanted to leave but was grabbed by the Cyclops who threatened to eat them. Ody came up with the idea of the lotus wine trade, which acted as a sedative. If the Cyclops was peaceful, then he would sleep and wake up in a bit with no harm done. If he wasn't, then the wine would save the lives of Ody/his men. Even when Ody had the opportunity to kill the blind Cyclops, he chose to spare him mercifully. #FreeOdy!
As a member of the jury, I fully agree. Obviously the cyclops has a right to be upset about the sheep, but Odysseus took steps to make up for his mistake and the cyclops overreacted, BIG time, by trying to kill the entire crew. I think Ody is fully justified in what he did
fun fact!: in warrior of the mind athena sings "MIIIIIIIINNNND" but when she meets odysessus she sings the same belt but odysessus adds his own riffs to it the last mind they both sing that riff showing they have a special bond. its also shown in my good bye when she sings the first "THIS IS MY GOODBYE" she uses odysessus"s riff is warrior of the mind but the last this is my goodbye she sings her original note in warrior of the mind which shows that their bond has been broken. that same riff will comeback in the future!
Fun fact that Epic doesn't go into about the original Odyssey: Eurylocous (the second in command, bald guy) is Odysseus's brother in law. He married into Ody's family.
@@who8757yeah and Spoiler for The Thunder Saga: This is also the reason why the Crew ended up turning their back on Odysseus. In Scylla Odysseus gave Eurylochos a Torch meaning he was ready to sacrifice his Brother (in-law) who is also his one of his Childhood friends AND the Second in Command. Odysseus trying to sacrifice Eurylochos is literally the thing Odyssey should have not done since his Entire Crew lost faith in him since he didn’t even hesitate the Second Most important person which meant that Odysseus could sacrifice them even quicker. For the Warrior of the Mind he made really stupid decision.
@@area52ron no Odysseus does not think about his own Crew. In Mutiny he sings about how HE has to go home and only started to talk about his crew once HIS chance to go back was in danger. Odysseus becoming the Monster was him becoming less caring about anyone other than his Family.
To be fair to Ody, he didn't know the cave was inhabited or that the sheep belonged to anyone. He did say that they were "just travellers who come on peace", then after Polyphemus saw the sheep, grabbed him and tried to eat him, he pulled the lotus trick. So he didn't have many options in that scenario, and he did try to be peaceful when it was possible.
@@adrianthethey to be fair about the whole suspicions things he had no real evidence. It was just him being paranoid and also I’m pretty sure by the time that he realise something is off something ain’t right here they already killed the sheep.
You mentioned trying to read the expressions to understand. Fan animations don’t all have canon elements in them, though Athena was hurt by that, as you can hear in the music and Jay revealed in a livestream release. Just something to keep in mind about these fan interpretations, not everything is official, like how Mircsy’s (absolutely terrifying) cyclops isn’t canon. You were right in that sound indicating her appearing in his head, though. It’s called ‘Quick Thought’. Conversations between Athena and other people can last however long they want, while only a second passes in the outside world. It’s cool… except that the other person gets no say as to when they’re pulled in- “This way, you’re out of my head now. This way, you won’t plague my life.”
when athena is first introduced, her high notes are always straightfoward. when she meets odysseus in Warrior of the Mind, they start harmonizing and athena adapts his little riff into her singing, showing their bond. in My Goodbye, they continue the riffs until the very end where athena sings the last note in the straight forward way she started off, severing her connection with odysseus both physically and musically
In fact, some Greek gods and goddesses became attached to mortals, such as Apollo, although they more often preferred the company of lesser deities. It's just that Athena doesn't even have close relationships with other immortals, most likely she never forgave herself for accidentally killing Pallas. The exception was Hephaestus, but it also ended badly there (which was not her fault). Even with Zeus, although they have a very warm relationship (she never found out that he was the real culprit of Pallas's death), I can't remember a moment when this was somehow expressed in their conversations.
@@HReiss0 not at all, public perception has done him dirty 😔 especially in regards to his lovers. a majority of them ended up well! even the one really well-known one that died (hyacinthus) was resurrected
Some trivia for you: Polyphemus is described as being young for a Cyclops The wine Odysseus offered was a gift from Dionysus, the god of wine and madness; it really was 'the world's best tasting wine' In ancient Greece, if you died without the proper burial rites, you couldn't pay your way over the Styx into the afterlife and depending on the telling you either couldn't ever get to the afterlife or you had to wait around 100 years. Literally all they can do for their friends is 'remember them' You aren't ready for how spectacularly revealing his name comes back to bite Odysseus and the crew
You're the first creator I've seen that pointed out that the "no bloodshed in here today" line from Ody is bs because the sheep is quite literally lying there bleeding.
In a scrapped song between Odysseus and Polites called Your Light it is actually revealed that they were childhood friends and that Odysseus only killed the boar that Athena sent to protect Polites in first place
Hope you enjoyed the cyclops saga 😭😭😭 some more notes! 1) due to a revenue sharing issue with Jorge’s original production company, he pulled a Taylor swift and re-recorded the first two sagas with updated vocals and instruments! Sadly some of the main animatics (mainly wolfies) don’t use the updated vocals, so I would totally recommend listening to the new versions in your own time 😊 (Teagan’s (Athena’s) updated vocals are godly 2) that “womp womp womp womp” with Athena’s entrance is supposed to represent something called quick thought! It’s basically like a mindscape power that allows her to interact with others by making their thoughts move super fast (general idea at least) 3) You shall see in the wisdom saga how Athena felt about his words 🤔
24:10 Good catch, and it's even more clear and intentional than that: the melody is a direct callback of the lines "If you're *looking for a mentor* I'll make sure your time's well spent" (and right after that young Odysseus says "sounds like a plan, Goddess and man bestest of *friends* !") Direct mirror to "you're not looking for a mentor, I'm not looking for a friend". There's a ton more callbacks, lyrical mirrors and reprised motifs, even just in these songs, you can catch lots by relistening as you remember previous songs 😊
Idk why,but I love how polyphemus' pupil goes from a slit to rounded kinda like a cat,I like to imagine he's the only cyclops that can do that, but it's kind of adorable to me lol I also like to imagine the reason why polites got hit by the club is that from the animatic he saw the lotus eater on the ground in harms way,he ran, grabbed the lotus eater and tossed it to Mabye eurylochus,Odysseus or one of the surviving crew members but he didn't get out if the way in time before the club hit him
It's funny because I always hear people saying that in the original mythology Polyphemus was a young and not respected cyclops. Now I don't know about y'all, but the versions I read literally described him as the cyclops king. Not to mention that there are versions where Ody didn't kill any sheep. They simply went into the cave and asked the cyclops for hospitality and he went like "lol nope"
You know what? The only version of the odyssey I read was in an English textbook only telling the cyclops saga and it also said he was like the respectable leader, even having the other giants refer to him sorta like a brother. But now that I think about it, polyphemus is most likely the only cyclops and thus outcasted by his fellows, which is real and sad
@@who8757 he's not the only cyclops. In the book it also mentions other cyclops on the island. Plus there was the whole plot point of "nooo Nobody blinded me!" "Tf!? How can nobody blind you?"
Are you referring to the parts where Odysseus is telling the Phoecians about his journeys? Because that section is used to highlight how big of a liar and manipulator Odysseus is. In the section where they actually go to the island it would be pretty hard for any interpretation to place him as a “king of giants” as his profession was clearly a shepherd. But if you know the translation you read I’d love to check it out!
@@aleydistordera9167 I know that but like, if your comrade was suddenly blinded out of nowhere, you'd help or ask questions even, but all they said was "well if nobody hurt you, shut up we want to sleep"
Yeah. Even with the wine in his system, Polyphemus had no intention of just letting the jerkweed who killed his favorite sheep leave. Same as the original odyssey too.
the cyclops does eat the sheep, their not pets "you killed my sheep, my favorite sheep." it more like getting mad at an intruder after they ate the good leftovers you've been waiting to eat.
I love this saga from a story perspective, it really has a lot of hard hitting moments. As youve noticed, Jorge uses a lot of callbacks, so try to remember lyrics. They will often come back later. I agree that Athenas reaction shows she still cares, because any other mortal would have gotten smote for talking to her like that. Also, Teagan releases solo music under the name TE/MO, which I personally highly recommend
Athena was absolutely hurt there, they've been together for decades, they both know how to hurt one another. And he did intend to hurt her, he's just lost his best friend, now his mentor / friend is abandoning him and he's just lashing out. He's far from the first, or last, human to say things they regret in the heat of the moment.
Fun fact every character has their own instrument wich is mostly used to represent their emotions. A guitar (normal and electric) is used for Odysseus.
7:42 I think someone said that Mircsy made his shadow to look like Athena ....(Because he's being smart or something ...?) (I don't know for sure though)
I always thought it was supposed to look more demonic to show him being more conniving and that he isn’t quite the good guy in this situation (not that there was really a good guy, neither side was completely in the right here).
I’m sure someone else has said this, but in Ancient Greece, it was a commonly held belief that if people were not buried properly, they wouldn’t ever be able to reach the other side of the river Styx in the afterlife. It makes “remember them” so much more tragic, because Odysseus is saying that all they can do for Polities and the other fallen crew mates is to remember them, as they don’t have time to give them all a proper burial
Another widely accepted belief being they had to wait 100 years (I think it was 100) and if they were no longer remembered before that time passed they would fade away into nothingness/wander for eternity.
In the actual oddysey polites was still very beloved by ody but you didnt really see him much in the book.. In the musical they were childhood friends and you could easily get attached from Polites personality and sweet song.. And then jorge shattered our hearts.. Jorge, when i find you jorge!
"He can't just drop that because it's for the greater good" I think the second song of the first saga proves that wrong. He did indeed drop it, quite literally
Something interesting to note is that the backing vocals are always from characters that are actually there (Ody's crew in just a man, for example), but gods can just summon their own. Meaning Athena purposefully summoned the dead crew's voice for My Goodbye
Remember that Odysseus didn't actually know the sheep were the cyclop's friends. He kinda just assumed he can take them and he did try to "repent" while also playing it safe in case the cyclops still didn't forgive the mistake. Remember Them is especially painful if you remember that, in Ancient Greece, if you don't get a proper burial, including a coin for crossing the river in the Underworld, you kind of just ... wander endlessly. So any of the soldiers that died to the cyclops or any other tragedy that happens in the Odyssey are kinda doomed for all of eternity. Athena actually did many heroes quite a few solids in the myths and legends and she had a considerably "close" relationship with Odysseus, both in EPIC and "canon". She could, of course, also be extremely petty towards anyone she thought crossed her and delivered quite a few brutal punishments. Just A Man is a theme that haunts EPIC alongside Open Arms, Underworld and Full Speed Ahead.
Something really interesting about Polyphemus (I have no idea if another comment already said this, but as a mythology nerd I have to share it): in the Odyssey he is actually at fault for what happens. Odysseus and his men find Polyphemus' cave, and they decide to wait because they are curious about who would live in such a huge cave surrounded by sheeps. When Polyphemus arrives he invites them to stay and offers them food, but he breaks the Xenia (the Greek custom of hospitality) by blocking the entrance to the cave with a massive boulder and eating two of Odysseus men, saying that he'll keep the others for "later". Appealing to Poluphemus' pride (he boosted that he was more powerful than Zeus since he was the son of Poseidon and the nymph Toosa) Odysseus offers him some undiluted strong wine explaining that it's way too strong for mortals so they have to mix it with water, but it shouldn't be problem for somebody as powerful and strong as Polyphemus. He drinks the wine and, drunk, asks Odysseus for his name so he can give him a proper gift in return, and the whole "Nobody" affair happens including the "I'll eat you last. After that, it goes like the musical shows with the other cyclops, but Odysseus and his men have to wait until the next morning to sneak out of the cave, taking advantage of Polyphemus letting the sheeps out to graze. (They have to tie themselves under the sheeps because Polyphemus pets them to make sure only them come out, it's actually really funny) Of course Odysseus still reveals his actual name as he sails off, because if he didn't the whole mess with Poseidon wouldn't happen 😂
He technically goes one step further and reveals his Father's name too, so there can be 0 doubt about who he is... he essentially gave his name, address, and SSN/NIN or other such national identification thing.
Yeah you can’t help but feel bad for Poly. Poor little big guy. Teagan truly is so talented. That goes for all the cast really but I have to say Teagan is in my top three for this musical. Every time she sings I get super excited. Oh My Goodbye… I understand where both of them are coming from to some extent. Athena is right, Ody was incredibly reckless with some of his choices made in this saga. HOWEVER! Athena came at this all wrong. The man is grieving the loss of his men and she just comes in like “wow bro, you really messed that up and let your emotions lead.” So of course Ody gets defensive, fires back at her which only drives the wedge deeper. Hubris and poor communication. Truly the downfall of so much. Can’t wait for the next one.
I think you're taking the statement about being his "favorite" sheep, a bit more extreme then intended, I always thought it was like a farmer having a favorite sheep, despite it still being livestock to him
No, Polyphemus was the runt of the litter and was practically bullied so he found solace in the sheep he was supposed to guard. They were his only friends when he was ostracized by his brothers. That's one of the reasons why many in the fandom think he's child like. He was lonely so the sheep were his friends and that why he reacted so badly to Ody. Like a child being angry at the beast that killed his pet and wanting revenge.
@@WrathOfSol fair enough, I'll give you that, I'll admit, my commend missed what my point was, my point was by the standards of the times and due to everything Ody should have expected, he did Infact, lead with peace
@@WrathOfSol Where are people getting that interpretation that Polyphemus was the smallest or was bullied? In most translations of Homer's Odyssey Polyphemus is described as the greatest of the Cyclopes (Zeus described him that way in the translation I read). The Cyclopes as a whole just stay separate from each other and don't care for each other much.
I mean, farmers are willing to kill for their sheep - especially foxes and the like. So even in that instance when Polyphemus does is a very human response to the human version of a fox to his Cyclops version of a farmer.
24:51 So, from the Livestream which gives us little text blurbs of narration from time to time, we got "This hurts Athena" after that "YOU'RE ALONE!" Also, I never see anyone point it out, but here at 26:26 when she turns around you can see her expression becomes sadder.
We ALL love Teagan and her amazing singing. Not only did he probably notice the moment of pain: This woman has been by his side for like 20 years. We don't actually know the exact ages for Ody and what not but he was a teen when he became her student and he became a King/married Penelope in his 20s... and its been 10 years since the War started/his son was born (give or take)... so yeah. LONG history between the two. And he had to have had that moment of: Oh shit... I just told my closest "living" ally to go fk herself didn't I? Edit: Also 'funny fact'; Ody says "why's your life spent all alone". Athena is one of the 3 "Virgin Goddesses" (the other two being Artemis and Hestia). Now that doesn't MEAN alone but many do kind of consider it alone/lonely... so: ha.
So lyrics wise, you can definitely feel the guilt and pain starting to seep into Odysseus more in this saga as he is just like look we do what we gotta do, we'll get home. I'm just ready to go home. And then with Polites death, it was like the last straw. Like for his friend, he tried to greet the world with open arms but he is just a man and he is trying to get home. And the cyclops gets blinded, they leave the cave and they pass Polites and Ody is like no more bloodshed. But this act of mercy, remember who gave it to you. And Athena turning her back on him, again just lost his friend, now losing his goddess "friend" he's like, man whatever. Fuck all this let's just go. (Call back to end of Open Arms)
Yay! Happy I could help in the playlist department. Vengence Saga will probably have animatics pretty quick after it comes out, so I'll update it with those when I can
If you are into the mythology musical there is a game called Stray Gods and it's really good and dives into the mythology but modern day-ish. Love reacting to your videos.
Finally someone who shows some sympathy to poor Polyphemus. The songs and animatics clearly paint him as the victim in all of this, but everyone that reacts to this saga brushes that of as soon as he kills everybody's favorite flower child(which is actually very good writing, manipulating the audience into siding with Oddy even though he's in the wrong). My bestie was absolutely justified in everything he did, and those greeks are about to pay for that, trust and believe
"definitly justified" to kill 600 men because his livestock got reduced by 1? The Cyclops has a very skewed sense of "morals". While Oddy is not great(heh) in his actions I highly doubt thats fair. After beeing told to just die attacking him is very reasonable. Edit: yeah if they really are his best friends and not in a farming sense, it is a bit more reasonable. Even then Oddy had no choice after the cyclops decided to kill them all, no one would take beeing killed lying down.
@@gromigur But you're thinking of them as equals. From his perspective, a bunch of ants broke into his house, killed one of his pets(in this version the sheep are definitely friends, Oddy even confirms this in Monster) and then offered wine in exchange, (not as an apology, we all know Oddy never apologizes even if his life depends on it) so he's simply stepping on them. We fell for the crew because we are also humans, but he has no reason to feel for them.
I mean to each their own in terms of interpretation but I wouldn't necessarily say Polyphemus was in the right to attempt to kill the six hundred men. Sure, Odysseus killed Polyphemus's favorite sheep or whatever but he tried to make amends and broker a deal which was accepted when Polyphemus drank the wine, only for him to break it immediately after. By that right Xenia, a very sacred ancient Greek tradition of showing hospitality to guests (one that Zeus created, I believe, as any guest had the potential to be a god in disguise) was broken. By then, all bets would've been off.
@felipeveloso1578 but your looking at him as greater, some giant one eyed monster says he is gonna kill all your men for one sheep after trying to give fair compasation eff no, end him if he is gonna be that way
@@dream6562 well to be fair if ants killed one of my friends I would try to kill them even if they say sorry and give me something to eat/drink. Still think he is not a victim of the ants just because they don't want to be killed. Loosing your friend to ants also does not make you the victim of ants
I mean… Odysseus had no idea there was a whole ass cyclops living in that cave As far as the crew knew these sheep didn’t belong to anyone. So yeah… I’d say it’s wrong for the cyclops to blame them for that. Intention matters, + they gave the cyclops the wine in return for him sparing them, and the cyclops took the wine then chose to attack anyway Yeah I got no sympathy for him 😂 he brought this on himself
The cyclops is in the right here. Odysseus' crew and even Odysseus himself didn't even question why there was hundreds of sheep in a cave and just killed them all instantly, they didn't check at all. The cyclop's favourite sheep is the equivalent of Polites to Odysseus, and the others are the equivalent to Odysseus's actual crew. Would you forgive someone that killed your childhood dog because they gave you some high quality wine??
The cyclops was enraged because they killed his favourite sheep, intention doesn't matter at all here. They didn't check to see how the sheep were somehow living in this cave all alone, nobody in this world would give up their favourite pet's life just for some wine (a small shot of wine in this case, considering how massive the cyclops is.)
To Weeby Newz (hopefully this doesn’t appear on somewhere else) Polites may be more willing to greet others with open arms but he’s still a soldier so he does have blood on his hands I am neither man (too egotistical to be human) nor mythical (too humble to be a god) Sad fact: the first hit did not kill Polites it only injured him but the second hit is what killed him So if Odysseus and the crew hadn’t done the freeze response they could have saved him and he would be alive much longer than he did The thing is Polyphemus is a young cyclops which he was bullied for so his father gave him the sheep and the sheep’s became his only friends and which Odysseus killed then compared the worth of his friend to the worth of wine so yeah Polyphemus was offended
Incase you want to feel worst for Polyphemus, he was a child and was neglected by the other cyclops', the sheep were his only friends and looking at this situation from a child's eyes it makes more sense why Polyphemus thought this was fair, killing them because they killed his friend.
Each character has their unique instruments. Polites is kalimba(i think), Eurylochus is the crew(as he is the sort of representative of them), and Odysseus has guitar. And specifically whenever he is doing something clever, an electric guitar plays.
Just a fun fact! Each character is represented by an instrument, for example, Ody is represented by a guitar that changes depending on his mood, that's why the rock-ish vibe in "Remember them", Athena is a piano, and Eurylochus, despite not being exactly an instrument, is always backed up by the vocals of the soldiers, the rest of the characters that appear also have an instrument that represents them.
Some Teagan lore: She is one of the main people who make Epic - she knew mr. Jalapeño from way back and helped him out by even voicing other random bits for him so he can imagine them She also has her own chanel called Te/mo where she has her own music. She has two albums so far, with the second one only airing recently - imo they're both such an amazing pieces of work, trully
I just love the visual symbolim used to enforce the overarching theme of when does a man become a monster. using red to denote monsterous behaviour, as Odyssyus and his men were technically in the wrong. On top of that after the cyclops agreed that Odyssyus would be the only man to pay for the sheep, making it a one to one exchange of life and a very fair one at that, odyssyus instead encourages his men to all attack to save his own live, so focused on returning home that he'd rather endanger his men and Polites wasn't having that. the tragedy shown here is that Polites knew the fight was unnecessary, knew his friends were in the wrong, and was the only man left without the eyes of a monster.
OK but they had a crew of SIX HUNDRED MEN and no food to properly feed all of them, they found a cave with sheep and food and had no idea someone else owned them, after the cyclops found them Odysseus tried to apologize and then the cyclops started preparing to kill all of them so he panicked, drugged him, and started to fight back. Honestly I feel like Odysseus's choices were reasonable.
This My Goodbye animatic is really good love any animatic when it comes to Epic tho lol, but I wish you would have reacted to the mircsy one!! I feel like it shows a different perspective on how Athena feels about the goodbye and it just hits you in the feels that much more in my opinion if you haven’t watched it yet I highly recommend it! 😭
I appreciate that you addressed the (some rude, some polite) comments about editing stuff down and playing with speeds. I subscribed from your Troy Saga reaction, because everyone does their reactions differently, but I commend you for adjusting and acknowledging the influx of comments. I'm sorry for people being so blunt about it though
"I am the infamous... ODYSSEUS!" The first time we ever actually hear his name in the musical proper, and it happens to be the exact same moment where he damns himself and his crew to tragedy.
Always awesome to see more people reacting to Epic! Just so you know a lot of animatics were made before songs were fully released, and typically certain animatic artists did certain songs, while no particular artist did ALL the songs. On top of that, sometimes Animatic Artists connected their Animatics together, especially when one song ran directly into another. I created a playlist on my account, a locked in one for Act 1, and a still updating one for Act 2, to try and make it easier for Reactors to make sure to react to the songs in order with animatics of full songs, and keep track of connected Animatics, if that would interest you. Look forward to seeing you check out more of the songs!
Jorge has this video going over the references to other songs in this song and how the first time when Athena sings this is my Good bye she sings it with highs and lows because that's how odysseas sang warrior of the miiiiiiind, and then the very last utterance of my good bye, there's no flux in the highs symbolizing shes moving away from ody´s influence/ Friendship
He led with peace because when they first met, he offered wine (it was lotused but it wasnt going to kill him. One can even say that thats his way of greeting the world with open arms😉) killing the sheep was prior to meeting with Phemus
You should also watch mircsy's "My Goodbye". I mean, in that, Athena is DEFINITELY feeling some type of way about the loss of Odysseus' friendship in that.
i am pretty sure somebody told you that already, but every character in epic has their own instrument that (usually, not always) represents them it can be as straightforward as Odesseus' guitar - both electric and acoustic, violas for Penelope and piano for Athena but it can also be a bit more complex like the choir that backs Eurilocus is his 'instrument', as he is seen as the voice of the crew other gods usually also have more of synthy sound to them, to separate them further from mortals it's not 100% when you hear piano that it's Athena, but most of the time it is her (same applies to other characters too, usually we know it's them by combo of their instrument + their motif) it's also kinda fun to try and guess the new characters signature instruments along the way ;p oh, and i will just like to point out that Polites is represented by a mallet remember that going into act two later 🚬👀
Every character has an instrument associated to them so: Odysseus- normally has the guitar but if using Athenas wisdom or strategies its an electric guitar Athena- has the piano and clock (ps gods and goddess have more electrical elements in their instruments) Eurylocous- has the crew to show he voices most of the crews thoughts And ect.
Its sad and funny at the sametime remember that in the book, Odysseus CHOSE to wait until Polyphemus return, just to negociate with him and cause of that, all the shit happened. He was smart and so fucking dumb at the same time.
Since none of the top comments have mentioned this: The first two sagas were re-released due to the original record label refusing to pay up. Pretty much all of the animatics in these first two episodes in what I hope will become a series going through the whole musical use those original tracks. Jorge took the time to create Winion Entertainment and re-record all of the songs in the first two sagas and commission new animatics for them. The differences aren't huge, but it's definitely worth listening to the newer recordings if only to support him and all of the incredible actors/singers and animators that worked so very hard on the musical. Obviously no fault can be placed on somebody new to the musical, but doing a new set of reactions and/or comparisons to the proper versions would only bring new fans to the versions that support the original artists
odysseus killed the sheep thinking it was just a random sheep, when he met the cyclops he apologized and tried to compensate him, the lotus isnt a poison it wouldve just slept him for a while
Gods of greek and other mythology can care about mortals but it's different because a immortal can't show love in the way someone mortal can, it's like when the love their kid so they offer them immortality after the complete a important world quest, that's their love while mortal love is more like "I love you and will protect you even if I DIE(something gods can't do) in the process", I would have to assume similar for love in terms of friendship so even if Athena says no she was not looking for a friend she still gained one and showed her love in the way that god most likely would for a friend, it's most likely like a cultural barrier execpt it's mortal and immortal
Can she? I thought normally they don’t allow people to react to the livestreams, Mortius made it a point to mention it multiple times during a few of his reactions iirc.
I mean when he came into the cave he didn’t know that the sheep owned. So once he realized that he tried to compensate. Thus leading with peace. But Polyphemus just wanting revenge fed his inner beast.
From what I've heard Polites actually chose to not fight against the cyclops and instead tried to help others who got hurt (I like to headcanon that Polites was a medic instead of a warrior, but still was a good fighter thats why Ody tries to make him help fight) I could be wrong though cause there is not much mention of Polites in the actual Odyssey sadly.
19:28 he says he is but in context he really isn't. Polyphemus' life is basically over at this point. Even Hephaestus god of the forge was mistreated for being a cripple, this young cyclops has no chance and will probably be allowed to starve to death.
If you like Athena, I HIGHLY recommend listening to Teagan Early’s music such as Mother I. She is the singer for Athena. She goes by TEMO for her official music
Update on the copyright situation since I mentioned it in the video. I appealed the claim on this one and they approved it after a day or two which is super fast! So I won't have to edit down the songs/speed them up anymore. Thanks to everyone who let me know that the creators are cool with reactions
Yaaaaayyyyyy
Yay! Jay (the creator) is really chill and is a good person
Does that mean you will do a reupload of the first arc without the edited audio?
You should reacted to the updated version of the Cyclopes saga especially remember them! That animated has the first version published the second one however has a few extra bits like when Odysseus yells his name it sounds a lot angrier and emotional it’s amazing😮! (The Troy saga also has an updated version tho that ones a bit more similar to the original.)
Copyright can be crazy. When Jorge released the wisdom saga he did a livestream on his youtube of the whole musical. Right during the new music portion of the livestream it got copyright struck. Thankfully they had a new stream up within the hour.

The pancakes were sweet and filled with ... jam?
MY HEART 😭💔
Poor guy:( but POLITES
One thing that makes remember them extra sad is the fact that they couldn't properly bury their comrades. In ancient Greece it was believed that if a person wasn't properly buried they couldn't pass into the underworld for 100 years, if they were forgotten before they could cross their spirits would fade. Ody is essentially saying in this song we must remember them so they can one day cross the styx.
Now he has to remember all those 600 men … another burden on his shoulder 😮 man that s so saad

The part where Polyphemus said "Take from you like you took from me" is actually true if you notice that Odysseys killed his favorite sheep and the Cyclops killed his best friend
that sheep was also polyphemus's best friend, not just a pet
wow, I never really through about it like that, I love reading this comments and finding new clever things the Captain included.
Ah yes, the Cyclops Saga, aka the saga when everything starts to go wrong 😅
To be honest, things start going downhill starting with the infant. It doesn't get much better from then on.
‘Are you ready for some pancake?’ Is FOUL.

I think Ody is fully justified in what he did
@@prometheus3498 where can I join the Ody defense jury? Because I completely agree with everything you just said!
No
I will say, he had already mixed lotus in the wine before this.
And he ended up causing the cyclops to suffer
fun fact!: in warrior of the mind athena sings "MIIIIIIIINNNND" but when she meets odysessus she sings the same belt but odysessus adds his own riffs to it the last mind they both sing that riff showing they have a special bond. its also shown in my good bye when she sings the first "THIS IS MY GOODBYE" she uses odysessus"s riff is warrior of the mind but the last this is my goodbye she sings her original note in warrior of the mind which shows that their bond has been broken. that same riff will comeback in the future!
A goated 🐐 comment
Fun fact that Epic doesn't go into about the original Odyssey: Eurylocous (the second in command, bald guy) is Odysseus's brother in law. He married into Ody's family.
Wait What? So when he said he's like the brother he never had, he meant it literally, that is something I never thought of
@@who8757yeah and Spoiler for The Thunder Saga:
This is also the reason why the Crew ended up turning their back on Odysseus.
@@scarecrow4611I think he did that so Eurylacus doesn’t see or have to live with what he did
@@area52ron no Odysseus does not think about his own Crew.
Ody had suspicions.
@@adrianthethey to be fair about the whole suspicions things he had no real evidence. It was just him being paranoid and also I’m pretty sure by the time that he realise something is off something ain’t right here they already killed the sheep.

Finally! The voice of reason! You've become rare in this dark times ;-;
What does pancake mean? Finds out immediately exactly what that means 🥞
Apollo killed or fucked up every single mortal he became attached to didn't he? 😭😭
@@HReiss0 not at all, public perception has done him dirty 😔 especially in regards to his lovers. a majority of them ended up well! even the one really well-known one that died (hyacinthus) was resurrected
Some trivia for you:
Polyphemus is described as being young for a Cyclops
The wine Odysseus offered was a gift from Dionysus, the god of wine and madness; it really was 'the world's best tasting wine'
In ancient Greece, if you died without the proper burial rites, you couldn't pay your way over the Styx into the afterlife and depending on the telling you either couldn't ever get to the afterlife or you had to wait around 100 years. Literally all they can do for their friends is 'remember them'
You aren't ready for how spectacularly revealing his name comes back to bite Odysseus and the crew

Sadly some of the main animatics (mainly wolfies) don’t use the updated vocals, so I would totally recommend listening to the new versions in your own time 😊 (Teagan’s (Athena’s) updated vocals are godly
2) that “womp womp womp womp” with Athena’s entrance is supposed to represent something called quick thought! It’s basically like a mindscape power that allows her to interact with others by making their thoughts move super fast (general idea at least)
3) You shall see in the wisdom saga how Athena felt about his words 🤔
24:10 Good catch, and it's even more clear and intentional than that: the melody is a direct callback of the lines
"If you're *looking for a mentor* I'll make sure your time's well spent" (and right after that young Odysseus says "sounds like a plan, Goddess and man bestest of *friends* !")
Direct mirror to "you're not looking for a mentor, I'm not looking for a friend".
There's a ton more callbacks, lyrical mirrors and reprised motifs, even just in these songs, you can catch lots by relistening as you remember previous songs 😊
I AM YOUR DARKEST MOMENT!
Remember me...............
I'm just a man is also reprised alot everywhere before monster... God this musical is so cool
Idk why,but I love how polyphemus' pupil goes from a slit to rounded kinda like a cat,I like to imagine he's the only cyclops that can do that, but it's kind of adorable to me lol
I also like to imagine the reason why polites got hit by the club is that from the animatic he saw the lotus eater on the ground in harms way,he ran, grabbed the lotus eater and tossed it to Mabye eurylochus,Odysseus or one of the surviving crew members but he didn't get out if the way in time before the club hit him

CAPTAAAAAIN
Plus there was the whole plot point of "nooo Nobody blinded me!"
"Tf!? How can nobody blind you?"
Are you referring to the parts where Odysseus is telling the Phoecians about his journeys? Because that section is used to highlight how big of a liar and manipulator Odysseus is. In the section where they actually go to the island it would be pretty hard for any interpretation to place him as a “king of giants” as his profession was clearly a shepherd. But if you know the translation you read I’d love to check it out!
@@stiletteleray1326 I don't really remember what translation it was but I'm pretty sure it wasn't some part where Odysseus is lying to the Phoecians
24:31 Odysseyus! This is not the time to be sassy to your divine sugar momma iykyk😁
@@lunarbl4de476 Yeah. I don't know for sure, just something I read, guess I should have specified that in the first place XD I'll edit my comment.

This! I am absolutely obsessed with Teagan's music! Mother hits me so hard in the feels!

Bro that Hooty plush is so cute😭
I love that every character has like their own instrument. I actually didn't notice till my friend told me but it's so geniussss
Ironically, polites has those mallet things (I forget what they're called exactly) from Open Arms
(They have to tie themselves under the sheeps because Polyphemus pets them to make sure only them come out, it's actually really funny)
Of course Odysseus still reveals his actual name as he sails off, because if he didn't the whole mess with Poseidon wouldn't happen 😂
Have you listened to Teagan’s independent music? She is amazing in that. She has 3 EPs currently, Mother Tarot: reversed and tarot: upright.
6:44 im glad you caught that, ive seen some other reactors miss that part.
24:51 So, from the Livestream which gives us little text blurbs of narration from time to time, we got "This hurts Athena" after that "YOU'RE ALONE!"
Also, I never see anyone point it out, but here at 26:26 when she turns around you can see her expression becomes sadder.
(Call back to end of Open Arms)
athena’s voice actor, teagan earley, also makes her own music under the name te/mo and i HIGHLY recommend her music.

Someone said that the cyclops went for Polites because he was Odysseus' "favorite sheep"...
I mean… Odysseus had no idea there was a whole ass cyclops living in that cave
As far as the crew knew these sheep didn’t belong to anyone. So yeah… I’d say it’s wrong for the cyclops to blame them for that. Intention matters, + they gave the cyclops the wine in return for him sparing them, and the cyclops took the wine then chose to attack anyway

If you wanna cry more for baby polites, you can hear "you light" a cut song for him
To Weeby Newz (hopefully this doesn’t appear on somewhere else)
Polites may be more willing to greet others with open arms but he’s still a soldier so he does have blood on his hands
I am neither man (too egotistical to be human) nor mythical (too humble to be a god)
Sad fact: the first hit did not kill Polites it only injured him but the second hit is what killed him
So if Odysseus and the crew hadn’t done the freeze response they could have saved him and he would be alive much longer than he did
The thing is Polyphemus is a young cyclops which he was bullied for so his father gave him the sheep and the sheep’s became his only friends and which Odysseus killed then compared the worth of his friend to the worth of wine so yeah Polyphemus was offended
Polyphemus was almost like a one-eyed, giant John Wick in this saga.
John Wick, from the pet murdering bastards' point of view!
Incase you want to feel worst for Polyphemus, he was a child and was neglected by the other cyclops', the sheep were his only friends and looking at this situation from a child's eyes it makes more sense why Polyphemus thought this was fair, killing them because they killed his friend.
WEEBY AND EPIC ON MY BIRTHDAY!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

Happy Birthday!🎉🎉
Ah so youve seen Survive. Welcome to The Club Weeby!
Me watching how you find politis adorable: 😔
Keep in mind the animatic visuals are artistic interpretations, not 100% canon. The only thing that’s canon is the music.
Some Teagan lore:
She is one of the main people who make Epic - she knew mr. Jalapeño from way back and helped him out by even voicing other random bits for him so he can imagine them
She also has her own chanel called Te/mo where she has her own music.
Your reactions of full throwing your head back and everything are so relatable!! LOL
So excited! I loved your first video and i have been eagerly awaiting the next!

ODYSSEUS!"
The first time we ever actually hear his name in the musical proper, and it happens to be the exact same moment where he damns himself and his crew to tragedy.
6:41 Only reactor I have seen who noticed that! Yeah, blood had already been spilled 😢
One can even say that thats his way of greeting the world with open arms😉)
killing the sheep was prior to meeting with Phemus
You should also watch mircsy's "My Goodbye". I mean, in that, Athena is DEFINITELY feeling some type of way about the loss of Odysseus' friendship in that.
i am pretty sure somebody told you that already, but every character in epic has their own instrument that (usually, not always) represents them
it can be as straightforward as Odesseus' guitar - both electric and acoustic, violas for Penelope and piano for Athena
but it can also be a bit more complex like the choir that backs Eurilocus is his 'instrument', as he is seen as the voice of the crew
other gods usually also have more of synthy sound to them, to separate them further from mortals
it's not 100% when you hear piano that it's Athena, but most of the time it is her (same applies to other characters too, usually we know it's them by combo of their instrument + their motif)
it's also kinda fun to try and guess the new characters signature instruments along the way ;p
oh, and i will just like to point out that Polites is represented by a mallet
remember that going into act two later 🚬👀
Every character has an instrument associated to them so:
Odysseus- normally has the guitar but if using Athenas wisdom or strategies its an electric guitar
Athena- has the piano and clock (ps gods and goddess have more electrical elements in their instruments)
Eurylocous- has the crew to show he voices most of the crews thoughts
And ect.
This is also a hint to one song in the thunder saga
Its sad and funny at the sametime remember that in the book, Odysseus CHOSE to wait until Polyphemus return, just to negociate with him and cause of that, all the shit happened. He was smart and so fucking dumb at the same time.
My good bye is all about how they're both hurt and taking every little jab they can at the other, striking where it hurts.
19:44 well ody didn't know that the sheep had an owner at first, even more so a cyclops xDD
One of my favorite things about seeing new reactions is watching people fall in love with Teagan Earley’s voice because girl same
For later sagas you can always react to the livestream!
Love watching new people get sucked into the epic fandom. Based on when this video wentbout and the last one we are due the next saga soon.
