    My name is Kaiya Pelletier and I am documenting my metal journey as I discover and listen to metal music for the first time ever. I'm in my mid 20's and I've been a singer songwriter and performer for over 10 years. Currently I'm in 3 bands and gigging around in Asheville, NC where I live. I have a Bloodhound named Spooner, I love mexican food, Stephen King, collecting CD's and cassettes and my favorite movies are tied between Jurrassic Park and Alien.

      I found NeO through Osu! lmao. One of the hardest songs in the game at the time was coincidentally Painters of the Tempest. Every time I failed miserably trying to do the beatmap on nofail, I would eventually just vibe to the song. That was nearly five years ago, and now I'm going to see them live in October!

    Hi Kaiya, lots of good observations. I totally agree with your description of the bass player, he is a VERY busy player, uses no pick (here), and his very clean and strong in the mids, round sound adds to the immediate impression, that I also had when listening to them the first time. This guy seems to come from the jazzy end of bass playing! His playing is also very melodic in a traditional way. Which is not a bad thing at all and fits their music very well, he actually adds something to the complexity for sure, so they never get boring, no matter how long the songs are...

    NeO are a top notch band. Check out Forget Not,Devour Me Colossus,Eyrie,Intra Venus,Xenoflux,Icicles Fall, or basically any of their older tracks. Pretty Flawless imo. You can't go wrong with NeO just like you can't with Opeth. Their compositions,transitions,mixing,musical talent ,banging drums,dual vocals,dual rhythym/ lead guitars,phenomenal bass,and the fricking violin playing all adds up to a true rollercoaster ride of musical eargasms without sounding muddy. I have been waiting a while for you to experience the absolutely beautiful chaos that is NeO. You will put them on your personal playlist once you dive deeper into their catalogue. Thanks for this one dear.

    So, there are a few metal bands that have done shows with full orchestras. I really like the show Skalmold did with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. It's kinda cheating. You get the band, 3 vocalists, 3 choirs (male, female, and youth) and the orchestra. The non-metal elements are very well integrated, rather than just being tacked on.

    Interesting about the message of the video. I didn't realise. Although where I live didn't get hit by the bushfires, they came close, and friends of mine had to defend their homes, because they lived on the rural outskirts. When the bushfires were at their worst, the sky in my city was completely brown. The sun was just a tiny glow in this horrible brownness. You couldn't go outside without a proper mask, and everything was covered in ash and dust. And because nobody was going outside, and nobody was driving, when you did have to leave the house, it felt like a scene from a post-apocalyptic movie. I can only imagine what it was like for people whose homes were consumed.

    hi girl, this band has evolved a lot over the years, in their beginnings they were kinda like a prog extreme metal, really focused on music over singers, with beautiful instrumental interludes, sometimes acoustic ones, then they abandoned a lot of that part of their music and went for more straight simpler structures, not so progry, i thought we have lost them and next album is going to be ABAB sturctures. now with this record they seem to have gone back to the progry structures, but still vocals are too present in the songs
    i suspect ego battles goin on there, i hope they can get that balance they had in the first two albums
    they are awesome musicians, and make beautiful music, ihmo the first album is a piece of art, you could dive into it

    • @lMarcusl
      @lMarcusl Год назад +1

      Not sure where you're getting this idea of them abandoning prog structures. Their third album has plenty of proggy sections with no vocals throughout Eyrie, Intra Venus and Libera, a little less so on Urn (part 2 especially). They can't just keep doing Tapestry of the Starless Abstract or On the Tongue of Eloquence style music with major instrumental interludes forever, else that too becomes samey and predictable, just like the modern cliche "verse, chorus, verse, chorus, break, chorus, end" you hear in most mainstream music. If anything with every album their song structures get more and more varied so that you never know where you're gonna end up.
