Great video as always. I'm still in the process of watching it, but I wanted to comment this befire I forget. Although it's hard to tell the scale on screen, that 'definitely not a rangefinder' piece looks to me like it could be one of those wall-mounted door stops that prevent the door from damaging the wall, but maybe it's too small for that.
Excellent video! And my guess was thermal expansion on the tube, as well.

You’re right, that does look a lot like that, but it’s definitely too small. It only sticks up about. 1 3/8” or 35mm.
