I'm sorry if this comes off as rude to anyone here, I purchased a GE GTW465ASNWW in this family that sounds exactly the same...
What machines are you guys coming from that find this *sooooooooo* loud? Do you sit near your washing machines the entire time they're running? I just truly don't understand, as far as a top loader goes this was on par with the noise of the Maytag commercial we also considered, it isn't much louder than the front loading Samsung it replaced. We have a house that isn't great in terms of sound deadening yet with the door to our laundry room closed you'd be hard pressed to hear it.
    Aside from that...
Your issues around 5:15 are purely due to not reading the manual/taking the time to understand how this machines operation differs from your previous. To explain the reasoning behind some of what you're complaining about (which is explained in the manual). This machine *will not* start a cycle until the lid is closed, if you start a cycle allow the machine to fill, and then don't return within 10-15 minutes the machine will drain the water and you'll need to restart the cycle. Pressing the start/pause button doesn't turn the machine on, opening or closing the lid, changing one of the selector knobs, or pressing the deep fill (deep rinse in the case of your model) button however will. Later with your "no lights are on comment" the machine runs a quick test to make sure both hot and cold water lines are connected (the two quick bursts of fill water you hear immediately after pressing start) then after that (about three-five seconds) the fill light will illuminate as yours did. Unless your're incredibly impatient I fail to see the issue.
Nothing against you, but I dislike seeing people complain about products when a bit of patience and manual reading to understand the product can correct most if not all the issues.

You're 100% correct. GE should be ashamed to sell this product but they obviously are not because 3 years later the product hasn't improved one bit. Truly amazing that something like this could go through an entire design and QA process and this is what they have as a finished product? I just bought the same machine under the Hotpoint badge. Same piece of junk. My laundry area is on the second floor and you can hear the dying animal noise all over the house which is a total non-starter. And it just doesn't clean well, which is the whole point of a washing machine. I'm sending it back and replacing it with a Maytag commercial washer.

    Hi Kim,
I bought the 2019 version of your washer and the matching dryer; it was delivered about two weeks ago. My Samsung dryer drum “only seven years old” split. I decided to replace both the washer and dryer-the Samsung set put me back nearly $2,000.00 USD., in 2013. I must say I am very impressed with this GE washer; it cleans far better than my high-end Samsung and the matching dryer dries in half the time. It used to take an entire day to do all of my clothes and bedding, now it’s complete in an afternoon-and the items come much cleaner. In truth, the machine is a little louder, but it doesn’t bother me. I have a four-foot-long velvet finish pillow, the Samsung could never get clean, now it is shining like brand new. I must say it’s been over a decade since I have had an agitator, and I love it. In your video, you questioned where the detergent went; I have wondered the same thing too. Occasionally, my detergent vanishes. I think it runs under the agitator. I enjoyed watching your review, and I am sorry your machine doesn’t live up to your expectations.
    p.s.
I find that pushing the start/pause button works to pause without needing to hold it for any period of time.

I own this machine as well and it’s actually pretty good at cleaning clothes. Regarding detergent, I’ve noticed that (at least for me) rarely does it end up below the agitator. Found this out when I pulled out the softener dispenser and looked inside the agitator. 90% of the time we use powder detergent so maybe that’s why it doesn’t go below the agitator. Ever since I found that out, I let the washer fill up a bit before adding detergent.

People are just looking for things to complain about....it's a friggin washing machine, after I shut the door I can barely hear it....and only lasts for about 45 minutes. I can't believe that it removes the soap on clothes. I've had 2 companies come the first said it doesn't have a rinse cycle but didn't know how to fix it. The next one said don't put too much soap only 2 tablespoon of soap per load. I can't believe that's would take care of problem.

I’m with you, the old whirlpool/Kenmore units were pretty good and easy to work on. I’m a handyman and I do work on a lot of things. Here’s my advice-
Washing machines and dryers are something you’re going to need all of your life unless you plan to do them
I elected on my next purchase to buy laundry mat grade washer, and dryer
Or even buy a used laundry mat washer and dryer they are quicker. They work well and they are bulletproof.
    Here is my past story
I had always had Kenmore Whirlpool washers and dryers the old-fashioned style and they were always reliable and easy to work on
The residential line of front loaders came out. I bought a pair of LG.
They were absolutely wonderful they had a 10 year warranty and they lasted 10 years. They didn’t use very much electricity or water and they did a decent job and were relatively quiet
At 10 years, I begin to have problems with the dryer in the washer so after trying to fix them and them not lasting much longer plus they were hard to work on a set
So this time I bought Samsung front loader residential line, the washer is about the same same as the LG as far as the way it works and operates however, the dryer after it’s done the clothes continues to run and operate with all the lights off, I was told it’s a defective relay in the board and they want $300 to replace this at expense still under warranty
If you’re buying residential, Bosch is the way to go !
But I would all always go commercial laundromat quality

@@KimTownsel Thanks. I found a new one with a dent for almost half price! TC-5.
Since you were so generous to share your experience, I am happy to reciprocate and share a bunch of tips I just heard directly from SQ. They welcome us to CALL them with the serial number on any machine you want to buy (e.g., used or scratch/dent.) They will quickly confirm the history over the phone e.g., when it was made and how much warranty is left. The one I am considering was made this year- still has a full 5 years warranty left or 4.5- not sure when the warranty kicks in but probably when I register it or buy it.
Downsides of the TC-5. The load size is smaller and it will be louder- 62dB's vs. 42dB's on the TR series (do not get TR). We are on a 2nd floor (condo) but we need a quality top loader (less smelly.) I do not want to deal with what you went through so I want to get this one- or a new one in the box if this one does not work out.
The SQ has a quality porcelain coated, metal outer tub (collects spin water.) Almost all washers I found including the Maytag Commercial us a cheap plastic tub that grows mold easier. It is also why this SQ is a tank and weighs nearly 200lbs. It does have a Prop65 warning I am not super happy about but I think it will be ok- they said it's inside some wiring that we will never come in contact with anyway. Let's hope so!
SQ also said to use White Vinegar (add inside the top of agitator) to soften cloths- not fabric softener (gets sticky and contributes to future mold- the issue we are having now big time on our front loader despite cleaning all we can.) Vinegar also really helps to keep the machine clean. She said less is more- regarding soap and vinegar.
Also, if you are coming from a HE machine, run the first wash of any cloths with NO soap. The machine will extract out of your cloths what was not extracted with the HE machine. This is why new customers complain their SQ machines are foaming over the water outlet with soap. They add too much soap and plus their cloths still have soap stuck inside the cloths. All great tips!
Now, the only hassle is getting it delivered here and lugging it up stairs. They are over an hour away and want $200. I would rather not go get it but will if needed. Saving nearly $500 on a new machine that has never even been plugged in!

I just bought the GE #GTW325ASWWW and so far I'm not so satisfied either...I agree with ya about the agitation noise...mine makes the same...not like my 26 year old GE Profile which I finally had to get rid of. I surely miss that one. So, when the guys installed it, they didn't know which hose to hook up to my Hot and Cold...since the faucets are both Black in color. They asked me and I told them I didn't know....well, stupid me, I tried a Warm wash instead of a cold wash. Everything seemed ok and I tipped them $20 and let them go. So, a day or two later, I did a Cold wash and Hot water came out. Ugh! They hooked up the hoses wrong! So, I'm waiting about 5-6 days for them to come back out and switch them. They were supposed to come earlier, but here in Memphis, we had a real bad snowstorm. So, they postponed it for 4 days. Hopefully, they'll fix it and also, the Final Spin kept going over 20 mins. and I know its not supposed to be that long. I had to stop it. Oy Vey! Too late to take it back to Home Depot. This is insane! By the way, Hot water comes out instead of Cold Water for the Rinse cycle since the hoses are mixed up. Maybe that's why the Final Spin was taking so long. I don't know.

EXACTLY....people need to learn to WAIT. I have a part time cleaning business, we do a lot of Air B&B's and corporate condo cleanings, somehow the owners and clients are always calling us about the washing machines....usually inpatient, middle age to older white women in a frenzy asking why the machine is not working, 9/10 times it's because they start hitting buttons or trying to change cycles thus causing the sensors to start timing in and turning off the interface for a minute while it starts to program. . I tell them to "hit the start button once...and WAIT 5 minutes". Almost ALWAYS it goes back on starting whatever cycle is programmed.

Basically , the EPA has an obsession with energy and water efficiency. Since 1996, the EPA has continually increased energy and water efficiency standards for appliances and manufacturers have to meet those standards. The result : Every appliance you shop for in America is designed primarily to use less energy and less water , even if that means compromising performance.

    • @AndyKYu
      @AndyKYu 6 лет назад +1

@@KimTownsel, you are correct about the Soak cycle indicator light doesn't come on ever (on my parents' GE washer model (same as yours featured in this RUclips video), it only comes on solid green when I turn the knob to "Delicate" washing program before I push the "Play/Pause" button. Furthermore, I observe that this GE washer model behaves in such a way that regardless of whichever washing program you select with the knob and press the 'Play/Pause' button afterward to start the washing process, it will go through the Fill, , goes straight to the Wash, Rinse, and Spin cycles. May you check and report back or post a new RUclips video of your GE washer model going through the wash process to see if it also just "skips" the Soak cycle after the Fill cycle and go directly to the "Wash" cycle by having your video camera focused on the cycle indicator lights throughout the washing process recording? This way, we can verify and conclude that the auto skipping of the Soak cycle is just simply how this GE washer model functions (a defect in my opinion as I believe a Soak cycle should be at least for 1-2 minutes). I'm going to also check on Google and contact GE Technical Support to learn more about this "Soak" cycle skipping and "Soak" indicator light not turning on ever (except when you turn the knob to "Delicate" wash program) issues for this particular GE washer model [GTW330ASK4WW]. It will begin to start walking forward within 3 years of ownership, after this model and 2 other cheap brands I did the research and saw a lot of comments saying the Commercial/Residential line of Maytag (about a $1000 US) beware of the cheaper digital model, the Commercial one is from the same line as the laundry place without the extra cost of the coin box, very solid,... So far so good, easy analog dials with extra rinse and presoak options,, almost old-school but strong motor and belt and gives you a true half and full tub of water instead of the High Efficiency models Congress passed a law some years ago restricting how much water went into the wash, usually the top stuff felt dry still, the one you reviewed here failed us badly as with several brands before, so the Commercial Maytag model is coming out on top even over those front loading GE etc models at twice the cost at least.

Any other lower water level will not cause sufficient rollover in your clothes during the wash cycle with medium or large-sized loads. Also, I recommend that you leave the deep rinse on for every cycle. It will cause the machine to fill and agitate during the rinse cycle like your previous Kenmore and will help to get stains out better. You can activate the deep rinse feature by pushing the deep rinse button on the left side of the cycle LEDs. The machine should remember that you have selected it for future washes with the particular cycle you activated it on, but you can make sure by checking to see if the light for it is on each time. The issue of you leaving the washer after initially starting it and coming back to it with an empty tup is proper functionality. If you leave this washer, or any other high-efficiency washer with water in the tub for more than 15 minutes while the cycle is paused, the washer will cancel the cycle and drain the water. Also, if you turn on the washing machine, leave the lid open, and walk away, then as soon as the cycle starts when the washer finished filling, the washer will immediately pause, and the auto water drain countdown will begin. In addition, the issue of you returning and not being able to cancel the cycle at 5:14 is not really an issue, but moreover how these washers are designed. You were unable to cancel the cycle due to how as I previously mentioned, when the washing machine drained the water, the cycle was also canceled. If this happens in the future, where you return to the machine having drained all the water with the drain pump still running, then turn the cycle selector knob until the LEDs light up. The reason why you can't do anything when the lights are off is because the control panel has gone into sleep mode, and you must input a command with any of the knobs to wake up the control panel to use the start button. At 7:36 this is exactly what I am talking about. You are attempting to use the washer when the control panel is in sleep mode, so the start button was not working. You then open and close the lid, which wakes up the control panel (the LEDs being on indicates it is ready for you to press start), you push start, and it works. You need to make sure that before every cycle the LEDs are on so you can push the start button. Another key point is that I recommend you modify the way you insert clothes and detergent into the washer. You should start putting in your clothes and detergent, even before you start the washing machine and then close the lid before you start it. You should also try to leave the lid closed for the entire cycle. This will eliminate the issue of the washer auto draining the water because you forgot to close the lid and walked away for over 15 minutes. What you hear at 10:07 is the "slow speed" agitation. On some cycles for the last 5 minutes of the wash, the washer enters slow speed agitation before it drains and spins. The reason why the washer does pulses of agitation is that it has no real low-speed setting, so it just pulses the high-speed setting. Practically no new washers have a slow-speed setting built in the motor for agitation anymore. The last and final point I would like to make is about the spin cycle with bulky items and how the washer may seem to go out of balance when it initially starts spinning. If you happen to hear the washing machine come out of balance when it is spinning, here is what you should immediately do. As soon as you hear the tub start hitting the walls of the washer cabinet start counting to 10. If the washer stops banging before you get to 10 and is still spinning, then let it spin however, if the washer continues to bang for more than 10 seconds or stops itself, then you will need to redistribute the load manually. You will also need to redistribute it manually if the spin light is blinking and the washer is just sitting there. This may happen twice during a spin cycle, once when the washer initially starts spinning and again when it goes to ramp up to full speed. Here is an example of one of the washers initially going out of balance, but was able to correct itself in under 10 seconds: ruclips.net/video/LjPV6Me0OZk/видео.html

What is the model number of your washer and what were the issues you were experiencing with your machine? I personally understand what you are talking about. This washer could be made so much better and easier to use with minor design tweaks on the same platform, but as far as I am concerned all new washing machines are like this. If your not looking to get your washer from a tech company and can't find a Speed Queen or used washer your options are pretty much a Whirlpool VMW washer, or a Ge.

I have the same one exactly same noises etc. I had a whirlpool for 20 years and I also returned 2 of these stating the were defective. It is the (New Top Loader they said)! My current issue is mold growing inside the agitator under fabric softener cup. It says not to put anything in this hollow cavity but it's black mold and its getting on clothes when washing. Hmm? It smells horrendous and the whole laundry room smells like mold. I checked out your video to see if this was your issue. It was not. Mine is 2 years old now. Have been unhappy since the 3rd one was delivered. Also I always push Deep water button first you get double the amount of water just FYI. If anyone can look under the fabric softener cup and tell me if its also moldy I could certainly use the advice. Thanks

I just bought this model from Home Depot today. A floor model for $447.00. No instruction booklet. I’ve done 4 loads of laundry, a small speed load ( quick wash) of gym clothes. 8 bathroom towels on super mode & deep rinse cycle. And then a comforter & sheets & pillow cases. Everything came out excellent. Try the settings. It’s not that noisy IMO. Compared to my old bare bones amana this thing is a Rolls Royce!

I bought the one with no agitator, just the open tub. We put the dry detergent on top after loading. It went through the full wash cycle, opened up the lid and the soap was still ontop. Still dry!
Just like you, we ended up with this machine, if we don't start the water add soap, and stir, we get soap residue on the bottom clothes.
Forget washing large sheets, comforters, and blankets.

I have same model, but ends in 2WW, everything else identical.
This machine is a complicated mess, the clothes at times comes out with small dry areas that look like never made contact with water. Not to mention..there’s a trouble shooting code sheet taped under inside side panel with which to help one determine what’s causing issues that will arise, in our case it stopped spinning, because the lid lock broke…again a RUclips clip saved the day.
Agree with you…wouldnt recommend to worst enemy. Used to love our old GE washer from the 90s. The last 2 only got worse.

They all sound like this unless you splurge for the $700 plus machines. You are correct about the belt driven machines. I do know that direct drive is more sturdy and expensive, but belt driven ones can be easily fixed for cheaper, thus overall can last longer if you are willing to repair it if that goes out. Anyway, you get what you pay for, all machines now are built to last 3-5 years....and unless you pay about $300 more, you get a little more noise. I just bought a GW 4.5 Cu ft, it's probably louder than this one, but who cares! it makes about the same noise as my dishwasher in my kitchen. Two loads a week comes out to about two hours where I have to deal with this noise. Seriously not an issue to me.

I have this same machine at home too. It's soooo awful. It takes 20 mins just to slowly fill the Machine. It doesn't use enough water. I've had clothes come out overloaded with soap and others smelling sweaty.
I've had to re wash clothes and they still don't get cleaned.
It takes almost 2 hours to run a load, Which is way too long. It backs up the laundry so bad.
I've gotten so frustrated that I went to the laundromat.

  • @bobwhite1231

Kim you are looking at in contrast to old school washers. These new machines have been tried and tested. They save water. You dont have to soak clothes with mega gallons in order the wash them good. You saturate them and let them move and the filth is loosened up. The rinse cycle does get them really wet to wash out the filth but to saturate the load in lower levels of water is a cheaper way to get them clean like Great Grand Ma used too. Sure lots of water cleanses but its not needed.

    • @KimTownsel
      @KimTownsel  5 лет назад

I understand about the less water but the machine has other features that are subpar. It is too noisy, it takes too long to wash, the technological features don't allow changes for the cycle, and it gets stuck on a cycle and will not let you change your mind. There is more technological progress than merely saving water.

We have the GE GTW220 (ACK5WW) the landlord bought it to replace the GE that went out. I just left it for a few minutes to get some more clothes, came back, the machine decided to empty out all the water and detergent I had put in, so now I lost detergent, looks like GE is in the detergent business as well. The cycles don't make sense, I read the entire instruction manual, it never says what HEAVY, MEDIUM and LIGHT does, the water temperatures are ridiculous, the water that comes out to fill the tub is never what you select, yes, my HOT and COLD water hoses are properly connected, I double checked them. There is no place to put in the fabric softener. Yes, you heard that right, THERE IS NO FABRIC SOFTENER CUP. So you have to stand in front of the machine and wait... and wait.... and wait... GE should just get out of the appliance business, I'm sure Apple or Toyota would make a much better and more logical washing machine. Machine is pretty quiet, but then again, if you're listening for the water sound so you can run back to put in the fabric softener, the quietness isn't helpful. If this was my property I'd return this piece of shit right back to wherever it came from.

Maybe I should state the ONE and only thing I like about this as a washing Machine. It gets my clothes clean when I get it to WORK right. 😂😂😂The sound is weird to me too. My house must be well insulated or I’m going deaf my old age but the volume doesn’t bother me just everything else about it. My old washing machine was 35 years old so it’s been a long time so maybe they’re all like this I don’t know but I agree with you hundred percent I do not like the washing machine. I would not recommend it to anyone. I like to add water and agitate for a little while to mix my detergent then put in my clothes then have it fill the rest of the way. I don’t think that’s a possibility with this washer. Thank you so much for putting out this video.

Gosh thank you for this video, I just bought this washing machine. Same thing happened to me, I couldn't stop it for anything in the world! Also, it does NOT NOT NOT add enough water I just don't understand why, what is with these new machines!!!! GE ...HELP!!!!!!
I didn't want an HE because NO ONE should be controlled on which type of detergent to use! I still don't understand how to turn it on! I hate that I can't turn the buttons to re-rinse whenever I'd like! It is loud and whenever I'm washing a heavy load, it practically stops and sounds like it is pausing between each churn!
I'm so UNHAPPY, because there aren't many choices when it comes to shopping for washing machines.... all the stupid washers say HE....that means I can't use the Mexican detergents I love!
I bought this washer because it's not an HE and therefore I can use Ariel or Zote Soap to whiten my socks!
I'm glad that the agitator (medium only) works like a normal washing machine and not in slow motion!!!! Honestly I wish GE will come up with a better NONE-HE washing machine than this weird one and let us exchange this weird machine for a good old fashion conventional one!

I set mine for the highest water level. If I have only a smaller load, I use the light or medium setting; otherwise the items are tangled beyond belief. I have learned to not keep pushing buttons or changing cycles because the machine cannot change like that. It is very slow to start.

I am sorry for the other issues you have with yours though. I think GE should give you a full refund and you should be able to get a diff brand 1 and hopefully that will work better for you. I absolutely hate the new washers they are building now. I was able to obtain a new Speed Queen back in 2017 before they made the design change. It has the old-school agitator and wash style. I'm glad I bought it before 2018, because from what I understand, everything after 2018 sucks.
The GE Filter Flo washers from the 1960's through the early 1990's were the best! I loved those!!
