A remake of the 2007 PSP exclusive Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, Crisis Core Reunion is a faithful retelling of Zack Fair's story with dramatic visual upgrades, full voice acting, and several quality-of-life changes. Considering the game was already heralded as a fantastic prequel and one of the best titles on PSP, it comes as little surprise that this version is triumphant in making Crisis Core into a modern day must-play for Final Fantasy VII fans. This is the first ever game i beat when i was in 6 grade and now i am 26 nostalgia hits me hard how i cried in the ending scene back then now i am adult and work machine everyday having a mundane life. I miss my childhood psp days one of my bestdays of my life.

I remember getting the PSP specifically for this game when I was 28. I am now close to 45.
I also had a blast playing video games during childhood and teenage years. It is still a small part of me now that I have aged with more responsibilities.
I have recently introduced my 3-year-old kid to the wonderful virtual world so that his life is also filled with wonderful gaming memories like mine. Games provide a world inside a world where you are free to roam without any fear or stress.

So excited. After playing the original ff7 for the first time after remake, i'm glad to be able to see those games with a fresh perspective after playing Crisis Core.
How was it to play through the original after remake? Did you like the story of it?
@@dreamer6737 Yes I loved it. I can now see why some people are upset about some story aspects in remake, but since i played them in reverse i think it doesn't bother me as much. Both games really slap.
@@jaychillins7574 How well did you understand what was happening in Remake? It seemed to me that prior knowledge of the original was 100% necessary otherwise it'd be essentially jibberish, so I'd love to hear what a new player thought!
@@azcopey3057 I played Remake with only a Cliffnotes understand of the original's later plot points. Until then, I'd only played until the first fight with Jenova.
The lack of knowledge didn't really hinder my love of the Remake, as I was really curious to see where they'd go with it after that last chapter. I did watch a lot of videos after explaining and theorizing about the nature of Remake and where it fits with FF7 canon,, so that helped a lot.
This is a fantastic review, kudos to the reviewer, listing the both the strengths and faults in a good and obviously passionate way.
Awesome review, it takes me back to the old days of the late 2000s; 10+ mins in-depth reviews of the game.
People going into this for the first time are going to have a hard or funny time with the dialogue.
Maybe if they're only coming off the back of FFVII Remake and other modern games for sure. if you've played a lot of older games it'll be less jarring, but probably won't stop a few eyerolls.
People who play Jrpgs and squareenix games should be used to it. Especially anyone who's played Kingdom hearts
@@cjinl2428 Yeah, actually, it's not just the older titles that have awkward JRPG dialogue. KH3 might be worse than a lot of the older games.

I just checked the metacritic (I don't care for reviews anymore etc but I do like to see the varied opinions and scores etc) and it seems to be well received except the Metro review (British publication) gave it 4/10.

Was the only game I wanted to play on PSP but couldn't afford a new console to play it lol, 10+ years later I repaired a Samsung tablet at work managed to get an emulator working on it just to play it but I'll be buying this on release to experience it again.

Not really. People knew about it. As someone else said, it got the platinum title for being one of the best selling games on the psp. However, it wasn't well received by some fans because the original wasn't that fun to play, and you had to slog through the first part of the game to get to the good stuff.

Seems like the legacy of Sephiroth's voice, since George Newbern, is to basically be a Superman.
I just recently found a used copy of the original Crisis Core, with the case too. It even had the character/gameplay/info pamphlet still inside.
i never finished this on PSP so im glad to give this another shot.

Keiji Fujiwara, Japanese voice actor for Reno has sadly passed away back in 2020 RIP, so not all of the new voice actors were present contrary to what she said.

I remember when me and my friends played Crisis Core on psp, i felt so cool telling them about going against the wall to avoid unnecessary battles cause we couldn’t search it up online before 😎
Same. I just naturally found out that you could avoid most encounters by hugging the wall and I would make sure to tell my younger brother to do the same on his playthrough.

Given its Zach’s only story and game they should of gave it the ffR treatment. He has no story left and now anything with Zach would be a retelling of this same story should of made it a epic.

Wonder how those mods will work? They won't have any old lines to pull from for the text only scenes that are now fully voiced on Reunion. If they simply mute Zack's lines then everyone else will be voiced but him which would be weird.
Whether you preferred the way they handled story changes in FFVII Remake or wanted a more faithful adaptation, it would be a shame for all fans not to experience this game’s original ending and story. Glad this is a 1:1 retelling. This game’s ending wrecked me back in the day (even on a tiny PSP screen) and I’m ready all over again.

AHHHH I FORGOT THIS WAS COMING TO SWITCH!!!! Ahhh!!! This was the first final fantasy game I ever played!
This game is an AWESOME game and I give it a perfect 10 out of 10!!! I always hated that it was a psp only game as I never owned one and I had wanted to seriously play this game as FF7 was my first and favourite of all of them I wanted so bad to play the game that started the whole story for FF7 and thanks to the remake I get that wish. It was an early Christmas gift and I love it. I cannot wait for part 2 of the Final Fantasy remake to come out.
I never got to play Crisis Core. I am unsure why I never did because I used to own a PSP. I might be getting this for xmas. Or shortly after. I liked the original FF7 and remake, so I hope I like this.

Transports the game from a smaller handheld experience to something that can stand besides FF7 Remake as a worthy companion to this world.
This little nugget tells me all I need to know as a potential buyer, whether that be a returning fan or one new to the entry and/or franchise as a whole.

I just got this game. As a first time Final Fantasy player. This game is great. It is funny how Kingdom Hearts was what got me into to Final Fantasy.

Great review. 30 hours to finish. Was that with doing all the side quests or skipping some.

Greatest gameplay and scenery I have seen in a Final Fantasy game so far other than the 3D fighters and Kingdom Hearts.
The person playing doing 2 hits and dodging constantly was extremely frustrating to watch. How do they manage to always find the worst people to showcase a game?

Dude what? You don’t know about using cancels in video games, especially action games? The way hitstun works, you can only incflict it on certain hits which means the enemy can hit you out of initial moves if you don’t make a defensive cancel and look for openings. in this game gives you a lot of advantage if you cancel to reset your string. Action games and cancelling has a lot of complexity and this games new combat tweaks heavily favors cancelling.
I wouldn’t say this is peak demonstration of the combat but this isn’t a good complaint given how vulnerable you will be if you’re not using a lot of movement and cancelling in between major setups and actions.

It's still running the PSP game's code but in Unreal 4 and maybe there was only so much they could do without having to fully remake it. This is just a good remaster, not a total overhaul, which is why we get more realistic looking characters doing some very 2000's anime posing in cutscenes.
Oh, so punching is still king in this one? Sweet. Will get Costly Punch ASAP.

I still remember playing the last part of the game with endless wave of Shinra troops attacking Zack, trying to finish them, I was in denial of him losing that round that I keep of playing it until my HP drops to zero
Can tell someone doesn't like grinding with that critique against the VR side missions since it's now on a home console. As someone who didn't much care for the original releases combat system (mostly the DMW), one of the things I most loved about the original release was the VR side missions and while not all of them are outstanding original missions they provided the majority of the fun I had with the game outside of the story itself.
good point about the dialogue. i still enjoy the story but they sound all very campy and theatrically over the top. in ff7 remake the characters feel real even in the crazy jrpg setting

@@raresmacovei8382 What frustrates me is when people sometimes use “reboot” to describe the relaunch of a series that is still within the original continuity. Tomb Raider 2013 is a reboot. God of War 2018 is not.
Generally, a remaster is like “It is the exact same game, but we are updating the textures.” A remake is like “We are making the game again from the ground up.” The Last of Us on PS4 is a remaster. The Last of Us on PS5 is a remake.

LOL! Updated graphics, improved sound effects, remixed music, full voice acting, and improved battle system, is not just "a coat of paint". 😄
I got it for £30 thanks to some loyalty points, but otherwise I probably would've waited a while. I'm fine with having something shorter to play, that's for sure.

Late in the game, there are materia that increases the chance of the limit break you want to use. Just want to throw that out there.
the Og was amazing , but I'm a bit worried about the fluidity in combat , cos we can clearly noticed a lot of dropped frames when Zack evades, I already preinstalled it on my Series X, but I guess I'll wait one or 2 months for a few updates to fix this if not sorted at launch.

Back in the day there were things I liked about this game and some stuff I hated. It seems like they're polishing the things I liked but keeping the stuff I hated. I'm torn on replaying this.

I remember beating the entire 99 level bonus dungeon and final boss in Crisis Core for PSP before hardly even touching the main story. I was so unbelievably powerful that the main story was laughable to complete. NOTHING could even lay a scratch on me and I could virtually one shot every boss. I was a god that was FAR beyond that of even Sephiroth.

Such as real history game world history being changed just because a small number are even convinced they dont like it is tantamount to going to some other land and upheaving their actual history because it may be offensive. Leave what is well enough alone, worry only for your own circumference area bubble, let live and leave alone what was for it is and will always be and if given time it will act as a seed that grows forth much better futures as its left to alone to bio degrade into mulch that feeds the future growths. This Game is. Come back when it becomes WAS.
