nice job .... looking forward to catching up with you in the new year ... must get you make a video tying a lumo W/B for those lake and deep pool fishing trips!
No worries...just one issue though: they do tend to 'helicopter' which leads to twists in the leader after several casts. There must be a way to rectify the problem by adjusting the tie, but not sure what that would be. Planning on visiting NZ in Feb, will probably visit all our usual spots on the South Island...fancy joining us for a few days?
Wow South Island in Feb would be great but is a busy time of the year for me. Trying to get an East Coast/ Central Plateau trip in March so won't be able to get down there. Thanks for the great invitation to join you guys tho. If you find your way up my neck of the woods, be sure to drop in and visit. I will take you fishing round my local haunts. Re the cicada pattern, I think the foam you are using may be a little thin so a chunkier foam maybe and could be a bit narrower in the body. It would create less of a blade/paddle effect in the air maybe and not act like a rotor for a helicopter. Maybe bulk the head up a bit too. It will create a more bullet shape like the real insect. The wing orientation/ angle could be worth a play with too. These are just a random theory in my head and could be a waste of your time too haha! I'm no master fly tier but could be worth a go. Load the fly box up with cicadas for your Feb trip, they will be munching hard that time of the year.
They will! One problem I've encountered with this fly though: depending on how the wings are tied, it can tend to spin itself up in twists on the tippet. But if you can get it out when they're chomping cicadas, then it will get bitten, and hard!
During the last trip we made the decision to fish totally barbless, which meant we had to either use barbless hooks(not always available in the size you want!) or usually just bending the barb down on the hook.
...thanks, we're not after fishing advice, all we need is someone with strong thighs to carry gear and a thick skin to put up withverbal abuse. If you think you're up to it...

Good one, heres another cicada pattern I thought of.
But I might suggest putting some super glue so the foam doesn't spiral around the hook.
Thanks Weezmeister, your positive vibes are good! You didn't go to sleep during it, did you? I know it isn't as action packed as the usual...
Excellent job.
