With a brand new roller coaster being built in the Jurassic Park area of Universal’s Islands of Adventure, I thought it might be fun to look back at all of the planned and developed ride concepts that never came to be. Some of these concepts were originally designed to be built in the expansion pads that were eventually used by Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey and Skull Island: Reign of Kong-while another was a completely different vision of an attraction we eventually got. Here are 5 never-built rides for Jurassic Park at Universal Orlando.

The 'Jeep Safari' ride sticks out most to me. Because it's so similar to an iconic film scene, had it been built, it would've been an opportunity for guests to *literally* 'ride the movie.'
velociraptor4you Agreed, they wouldn’t have to do anything but recreate the Visitor’s Center, jungle ride in the automated vehicles, then T-Rex paddock where the t-Rex pushes vehicles, and Raptor attack. And have that rotating theater inside the visitor center.

Then it would be like 'riding the movie' even more. 👍🏻 This may be wishful thinking on my part, but part of me hopes that the upcoming 'Epic Universe' park will have its own "Jurassic World" land. This way, Universal Florida could keep the land at Islands of Adventure 'Park' and possibly work on even more film-inspired attractions and additions.

@@zacharyoliver5332 Hey, settle down. No need for yelling or screaming, OK? The actual concept of the 'Jeep Safari' ride was truly that: a JEEP safari. I'm not sure why they were thinking of that instead of the classic Ford Explorers from the film, but, it is what it is.

Honestly, I think that the added live scene with a cast member would be cooler, even if they would have changed it to a Dilophosaurus spitting at them instead of Raptors.
Even though they say that it is the same, Universal could have still used the Jeep tour if the layout was nearly connected to the river adventure. Because they could've used Hollywood's version of the boat ride and added the crushed car crashing into the water, giving more sense of the other attraction is in peril as well as the river adventure one.
Man the Jeep ride would have been really cool. Hopefully the “Velosicoaster” will be a awesome as we are all hoping. I wonder what kind of nods they will give to the Triceratops Encounter that was in its place.

I really wish we could have gotten that jeep tour, as well as the soarin' style ride. Both would have been amazing.

When my mom worked at Universal Studios in around 1991-1992 she heard a rumor of a dinosaur ride that was being rumored for a movie that hadn't come out yet..which I thought was odd until we eventually got JP. Ironic that the ride we got was designed and that portion of the book never made it to the movie, even though I believe it was planned at one point.
I agree that having too many attractions with dinosaurs attacking isn't a good idea, but the Helicoptours would have been great
They should just build a darn resort based on the park and just with robot dinosaurs
The t-rex attacking the jeep is iconic. Kong is basically the safari jeep ride. But Kong is missing something, it's one scene too short, a scene where a t-rex attacks the roof of the jeep or an animatronic t-rex attacking from the sides would be awesome.
I agree. I wish that was built instead of the River Adventure. It was always something that pissed me off even since I was a kid because it made so much sense and I wondered how could you mess that up when the idea was handed to you.
I get it for Hollywood since it ended up there first but still least for Florida they could have done it.
But the rollercoaster seems neat but not sure that a coaster is fitting for Jurassic Park. I want an immersive experience from JP. Maybe a walk through haunted house type attraction would be great where you get to personally escape (think of the scene where Elly had to put the power back on). But maybe that would fall in the pitfall of being like RA. Tho maybe that's not the worst thing? I mean isn't King Kong the same thing but with Kong?
@@Chaogod1233 I think Universal already did this. They once turned the Jurassic Park area of Islands of Adventure into a scare zone for Halloween Horror Nights in 2002.
Imagine how awesome of an RMC the wooden coaster would’ve been today.

The last one is the velocicoaster it is open now, and it is so fun!
Tidbit- I went to school directly across the street from where the river adventure building sits. At one point in construction they were getting ready to install a very large Jurrassic Park logo on the side facing Turkey Lake Rd but for some reason (probably known to OCPS), it was never installed. The mounting pegs remained there for a few years and were removed when it was next painted. My school was sadly also responsible for the large metal foliage fence to be installed next to Dueling Dragons.

I would have loved to see a dueling ride. I wouldn’t do a wooden coaster but possibly a hybrid. Dueling rides don’t get the credit they deserve but they’re great for crowds and always a guaranteed fun experience. Also I think it would be a wonderful idea if Universal was able to premiere the T-Rex patent by RMC. It would only make sense lol.

The Jeep ride tour could have been amazing! I’d imagine it would feel similar to Indiana Jones and rise of the resistance. Driving under the brachiosaurus reminded me of driving under AT-AT

This is a great video, thanks for sharing! I really love all these ideas, and as a huge Jurassic Park junkie I would’ve liked to have all of them! However if I have to choose, the amber mine coaster sounds really thrilling (though it could’ve used more of a backstory)! Second choice would be the safari ride, but with some changes in the storyline so it’s different than the River Adventure.

The Jeep safari sounds really cool, wish they did that. Would’ve been a great counter attraction to AK’s Kilimanjaro Safari. The battle of the safaris
As I may have mentioned before, I was absolutely obsessed with the construction of IOA ever since I first experienced the IOA Preview Center. That being said, once the park opened, every time I would walk past the backstage gate located by the toon lagoon jumping fountain to the right of Ripsaw Falls, I would wonder when we’d finally see progress on the JP Jeep Adventure. This was long before Kong was even considered. Interesting thing that I heard was that Studios was to always feature attractions based on Movie IP and IOA attractions were only supposed to be based on Literature. That held true up until Reign of Kong was built, despite the fact there was a book release prior to the release of the film but it served as a promotional piece for the film.

Theme Park Stop by Alicia Stella I think I would have preferred the Jeep safari - I love the velociraptors and t-Rex encounter idea but I do understand why it wasn’t made. I think the UV lighting on the raptor coaster would have been a very unique trick tho
A video on unbuilt Suess rides would be cool. Maybe discuss the unused track that became The High-in-the-Sky Trolley Train, the Lorax ride concept, and the forever rumored Mt. Crumpit coaster.

Interestingly, I think that Jurassic Park/World probably has the most potential for attractions. It's a theme park, but with Dinosaurs. You can fit any theme park ride into that land and still make it work. Honestly, I would have said that the Hypercoaster, which probably came closest to creation, would have been least likely (I mean, seriously. How do you apply an elaborate theme to a Hypercoaster?).
That being said, I really hope they use the UV light claw mark concept on the ride vehicles.

I wanna see them build a thrilling 'family friendly' type of coaster that will have a swamp area that has all sorts of dead dinosaurs and skeletons everywhere, and carnivores surrounding the place eating them. Maybe some velociraptors chasing you like the movie Jurrasic Park 3 has.
But one big thing I hope they would make is a woodie or spinning coaster!

After watching this, I sort of wish some of these rides were built. For instance, I like Soarin' so much that any ride like that anywhere else (Universal even) would get my approval. And also those two ideas for a coaster (whether it's a hyper coaster or a racing coaster) sound very exciting as well. I suppose it's a good thing that we didn't get those put where Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey sit otherwise we wouldn't have that attraction either.

Universal really hasn't done as much with the Jurassic Park as franchise as it deserves. Even these ideas all seemed too reserved, besides the jeep attraction. This is why I was hoping Epic Universe would have a real dedicated Jurassic World land. I'm hoping in my lifetime Universal sells the rights and some billionaire builds an entire park dedicated to Jurassic with actual animatronic animal exhibits.

Great video and great new series idea!! It makes me so sad that amazing concepts like the jeep ride (which looks like it could’ve even given Indiana Jones Adventure a run for its money…) were abandoned in favour of Universal’s now trademarked screen-based attractions. Feels like this was the point where the company really started losing the theme park battle against the likes of Disney.

Okay I have an idea. Bring all these concepts to life into one park. It truly could be Jurassic World. And as far as budgets, we dont need no stinking budgets. If you build it, they WILL come.

I know Universal gets a lot of flack for overusing screens, but I would love some sort of ride that included a pursuit through the ventilation system, the kitchen, or Lockwood Manor. And, if done correctly, a screen would be perfect for that. *glares at Fast and Furious*
They should have done the Jeep ride. They should still do the Helicoptour Ride so that the Jurassic Park Area can have two rides in one area.
Man, I would've loved to see all of this built. I don't see why they don't make a whole new theme park solely themed around Jurassic Park. Anyway, at least we get Velocicoaster on top of the ever amazing River Adventure.

Gawd, I had forgotten that wooden coaster idea. Not that I ever thought it had a chance of happening but, like you said, no idea ever dies. Well, if it had been built, then I guess we'd probably have an RMC update, so...
Honestly, there's nothing they can really do other than a mostly-themeless coaster here. This isn't Harry Potter and this creature or that creature or playing quidditch or in a motorcycle or visiting some weird new place. It's dinosaurs kill people or dinosaurs kill people or dinosaurs kill people or dinosaurs kill people. And never kids, which would be the easiest to kill! The only other option is just looking at robotic dinosaurs. Or, apparently, looking at FILM FOOTAGE of CGI dinosaurs. Sorry, but that helicopter ride would have been as bad as the name.
That dreadful helicopter ride does raise an interesting question: What are the odds that Disney snapped up that theatre technology so Universal couldn't use it? Universal pulled it with the Kuka arm. I never thought of it before, but the Soarin' area is the most random area in California Adventure. The other lands pointed at obvious California features - Yosemite, Santa Cruz, Monterey, Hollywood, Napa, San Joaquin Valley, San Francisco (well, less obvious since that one was so cheap). Yet what well-known area was Condor Flats supposed to represent? I actually had to look it up and it was allegedly based on the California desert, where many in the burgeoning airline industry tested their products, because the area was so flat. Is that what they think the desert looks like? There were palm trees by the sign, and that was basically it. Grizzly Peak was RIGHT THERE, kinda ruining any desert atmosphere. And that movie probably took a whole weekend to film. Knowing Disney history, my guess is this was going to be something completely different. The entire park was built on the idea of "If it's good enough for Six Flags..." and it consisted entirely of clones or Six Flags staples, except for Golden Dreams (a cheap film). Really, the only "Six Flags" staple missing is a flume, and I bet there are drawings somewhere of a two-ride Grizzly Peak, but this was a much cheaper option. AND ANOTHER FILM!!!

They should have canceled River Adventure in Orlando, it was already in Hollywood. They should have done Jeep Safari in Orlando and kept River Adventure in Hollywood.
Some people might disagree but personally I don’t like the King Kong ride because it’s quite short and not so fun I feel like the should definitely in the next 5-10 years change it to a Jurassic park expansion

I think if they built Jurassic park on the site of men in black alien attack world expo would have been rethemed to the Jurassic park area.
The likelihood of a hyper coaster getting approved in that location is slim to none. There are homes and a high school just on the opposite side of Turkey Lake Road. Nearby communities would have sued. They probably would have won because those homes were there prior to the theme parks.
