I think both Series 6 and 7 suck but in different ways. One was a messy over-arching plot that had barely any time to breathe, and the other was a horrible way to introduce a great companion then scrap her and ultimately focus on a far less interesting version of the character that eventually became insufferable. Day of the Doctor is disappointing. Also, thoughts on the Classic series?
You see, I like what they did with Clara in season’s 8 and 9. It is something that could only really be done once. But I definitely get why people found her insufferable in the end. And I’ve barely watched it. Only story I’ve seen is Genesis of the Daleks. It’s just such a different show that to watch it would be a very different experience. But ever since Saturday’s episode. I will be goon back to see that story.
Hope you talk about Doctor Who more! I started really as a fan of the show with Smiths first episode and got more into the series post his regeneration and initially seeing your video pop up in my recommendations was curious about why you might think his run was overall lacking. But watching the video you put words to a lot of gut feelings I have had about Smiths run as an older fan 10 years on and I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts and analysis. So wonderful video and please keep up the great work!
Thank you, that means so much! Glad you enjoyed. And who knows I might. I never know what to do a vid on. It’s whatever I’m feeling strongly about, which if you look at how random my channel is, you can tell that😂 but seriously thank you! Yeah I love doctor who too. Genuinely think it’s one of the best shows ever made.
When I watched it during the time it aired, I wasn’t sold at all. It feels like an era that gets better the more you age. The amount of character work is unprecedented in modern Who. The fact that s9 has an entire finale dedicated to nothing but character is insane. It’s got some stinkers here and there. But there is not a doubt in my mind, Capaldi was the greatest actor to play the Doctor. He wasn’t my favourite. But he was brilliant.
@@Smabbott Yeah, true. Throughout the fandom Capildi-era is getting more praise nowadays, I didn't watch it on original airing but having watched it recently, it's an era where imo Moffat set out to fix the problems from Smith's run by having the Doctor constantly grow and change and having companions who call him out on his behaviour
@@Knighttt662 Moffat definitely ditched the fairytale structure for Capaldi and it’s better for it. Everything feels more natural in terms of character progression and actions. It’s just a shame that not a lot of people watched it. My theory is that they were burnt out from Smith’s era more than anything. But I could be wrong.
@@Knighttt662 yeah s7 just feels like Doctor Who. It’s not great Doctor Who, but it’s a nice season to go back to. However, it does make the ending come out of nowhere as if it’s suited for another season. But it’s still just fun.
Thanks for Coming Back Smabbot! Can you please review hit videogame “Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn” please? It’s only just the greatest videogame of all time 😊
@@Smabbott I love series five, it's my favorite, I could take or leave 6/7, but you've made me think with a different lens for sure on it. While yes lacking in so more grounded elements from davises run, I fell 5 dose the most worth anywhere everywhere just gets my bones a tingling ahahah loved the vid
@@wishergod4631 thanks man! Nah man I get ya! The out there full blown sci-fi feeling is definitely a vibe. But yeah it’s all just personal preference at the end of the day. I wish I loved 5. I still feel like I’m missing something about it which everyone else sees. But idk. Maybe one day, it just doesn’t grip me like RTD1 era. But yeah, personal preference. Thanks man! Yeah definitely get what you mean!
After watching this video, I feel like it comes from a place of misunderstanding the show. I suppose if you're a hardcore 2005-2009er then the abrupt shift in 2010 might turn you away. That doesn't necessarily make it bad. In fact I personally believe a lot of the changes were rather good and drastically improved the programme. I suppose we're at an impasse there because its just two completely different opinions. The arguments you make only work if you believe that the 2005 era was the golden age, and my arguments only work if you believe that Dr Who as a show is better than that. Even if you were to use each era's popularity to "prove" which was better, at this point in time, the Moffat era is marginally more popular than its predecessor. Therefore the rules that _it_ establishes should take precedence over what came before. I guess we simply fundamentally disagree. edit: feel like I should definitely say that this is a great video as well, re-reading my comment it came off more harsh than meant to, it was just meant to be conversational lol my bad
@dwfan91- nah not at all mate! Honestly I can’t believe you watched my video! Thank you! Been watching you for ages! And yeah you’re right. Idk I view the character of 2005 to be stronger than the 2010 era. But like you said, bits really did improve in the 2010 era, budget, cinematography, high concept sci-fi. But you’re right, I just prefer the personal character driven side of the 2005-9. You really weren’t harsh. You’re just passionate and that’s great, yeah I love these conversations too! Thank you for your content and the comment!
@@Smabbott Thank you for the kind words and yes this video was incredibly well made and well structured and well reasoned. I don't think every point you make against this era is wrong but I do disagree with some. Probably the biggest point of contention is Amy who I think really is a compelling and emotive character with a great story and arc. I would love to see a similar video on the rest of the Moffat Era as I believe that a lot of the criticisms apply more to the latter series, but from what I could gather you're more fond of that part than this so that would be a great contrast. Thanks for the reply goat😁
@ yeah Amy’s never clicked with me. Idk I think it’s her treatment of Rory I find hard to digest. Because she loves him. But it’s also just a bit flip floppy to me. And yeah I do. I actually like Clara as a character especially in Capaldi’s era. despite the tagline of Clara Who, it’s literally the point and I like the downward spiral of her character. It’s well done and I think people get hung up on that one point. Which I could eat my own words with the Amy point. But yeah, I never used to like Capaldi’s era when it aired. But as time has gone on I think it’s very well done. But seriously thank you that’s so kind!
