A) Salt destroys the lead acid battery. B) Only a few drops of electrolyte will never restore battery capacity. We talk about electrolyte. Not about medicine drops for curing caugh. C) Cutting the caps means destroying the mechanism of water reformation and increasing the possibility of electrolyte spilling around. D) This battery can only be used in vertical position only after that treatment. E) Charging for one hour and testing the battery for some seconds proves nothing about its health. You should measure its internal resistance before and after that treatment in order to reach a safe conclusion...
Ah, finally someone who knows what they are talking about. I have forklift battery neglected for 6 years. No charging, no use. It is now totally dry and some of the stuff must have leaked out because there is a huge cake of junk on one end of the battery. So, the question is can this be revived by simply pouring in distilled water and the proper ratio of sulfuric acid? Second question is can this 24v 174AH damaged battery be replaced with two 12v 100AH batteries in series?
@@libenasukro Difficult case... Anyway, if you're lucky and the battery has not developed internal shorts, you can restore its operation by filling it up with distilled water only (not electrolyte i.e. diluted sulfuric acid, but pure distilled water) and then apply a very slow charging, while having connected a good brand of a desulfator unit across its terminals. The charging current must be very weak. Not more than 1/200 of the battery capacity. In your case it should be around 0,9A. Keep in mind that the desulfation process is very slow. This means that it will take at least one week or even much more for the battery to recover. If you apply high current, the battery will develop high temperature due to the heavy sulfation and eventually will short one or more of its cells. You can observe the progress of the recovery process either by measuring the density of the electrolyte in every cell (it should become progressively more dense with time, if everything goes well, but remember that the process is slow) or alternatively, by measuring its terminals' voltage. This should also rise in a slow tempo. Finally, you can replace a 24 volt battery with two 12 volt ones, if you connect them in series. But you should increase their capacity. This means that you need two 12V/175Ah batteries connected in series in order to replace a 24 Volt one. Frankly I have never seen a 24V unit so far. Usually the building blocks are unique cells (2Volt each), 6Volt and 12Volt batteries for making bigger battery banks. You will reach the desired result when the hydrometer reads 1.260 or the volt meter displays around 15 Volt. You need to keep on charging-desulfating until all cells reach their highest density (equalisation). For the process you need a dumb charger or (better) a bench power supply. Any smart charger will refuse to charge your sulfated battery. I hope that these guidelines will help you to restore the original capacity of your sulfated battery.
@@ΠάριςΑζής Thank you for your concise, specific and knowledgeable answer! I do not have access continually to the property to be able to monitor the progress of a restoration attempt, so I am thinking this might work: 2 12v 90AH deep cycle batteries in parallel would yield 180AH. When wired in series to another identical set, I should end up with 24V 180AH, right? No? Maybe? The unit is an old Lansing Bagnall PHEP6. I have not been able to find a manual for it, but I believe the forks only go up and down, so I am not worried about the weight of the original battery serving as counterweight. From what I can see, there are 12 cells in the pack wired in series. If I had a way to transport them, I'd take them home and try the recovery process maybe 4 cells at a time. One other question: Should I be able to use the original 28A charger on the replacement battery pack? Thanks again.
@@libenasukro You are absolutely right in your thinking. Two 90 Ah batteries in parallel will make 180Ah in total. The voltage will remain the same, 12V. Two identical sets connected in series will form a 24V/180Ah battery. No problem with that. You should only pay attention on how you will wire the new system. Here are the proper details. When connecting the two batteries in parallel (in order to increase the total capacity) use the same type of cable and keep the same length. This is very important for the latter longevity of your system. When you prepare these connections, connect each set with its counterpart diagonally, not in straight line. Particularly, use (let's say) the upper left terminal (of the paralleled positive terminals) and the lower right negative terminal (of the paralleled negative terminals) as your interconnection terminals with the other (exact copy-pair). In your final setup, you will use as positive terminal towards the load (i.e the motor of the forklift) the upper left terminal of the first pair of batteries. Then, the lower right terminal of the negative poles will be connected with the upper left positive terminal (or pole) of the second pair of batteries. Finally, the lower right terminal of the second set will be used as the negative output pole of the system (diagonal connection again). It is very important to connect your batteries in this manner. The reason is that this connection insures symmetrical current flow to and from the battery system either during charging or discharging. The logic behind this is that the current from each battery pole runs through equal resistive paths. Neglecting this (as ignorant people usually do) will destroy your system prematurely because always two of your batteries will work in a relaxing mode, while the rest two will suffer permanently. Nevertheless another critical point is the weight of your new system. You should be very near to the original weight. Otherwise you risk highly in terms of the moving and working stability of the vehicle. Therefore, "do your relevant math" before making a dangerous decision about it. If your results show you that you can proceed to that modification (which electrically is correct), then you can use your old charger just because electrically there is no difference with the old system. Your modification problem is only framed by purely mechanical issues, mostly by the weight of the new system. Normally, you should be very near to the original weight. Just prove it beforehand. See also if the dimensions of the new system pose no problem in fitting it in the old battery compartment. In other words, work backwards. I wish you success on it!
@@ΠάριςΑζής Let's say I have two batteries with terminals 1a,2a on the first battery ,3a,4a on the second. The odd numbers are positive. I will jumper 1a+3a, 2a+4a. On this first set, 12 volts will output from 1a+4a. 4a joins the second set via 1b. 1a is system positive and 4b system negative. Is that correct? As for balance, I think it has wheels in front of it at the same reach as the forks. If it does not, then I will figure out the weight and leave enough of the old battery in place. All the interconnects should be 200A rated? or only the interconnect and the rest can be 100A?
Making use of the ruclips.net/user/postUgkxcJ22tnHH9l1vjdIdEIG27iOG55P7LXI8 reconditioning plan, I just saved 2 auto batteries from being completely junked. The guides were very simple to follow. I wish I would have found this years ago! You may use the guide to recondition any battery type
The process below is what I Personally Use to recondition any "regular" lead acid batteries. It does work for batteries that have too much sulfite build up on the lead plates, to the point that it causes the resistance to rise until the battery is basically useless. OR in some cases, if you have battery that won't hold a charge, "slowly drains" when it is just sitting and nothing connected, *IF* its due to a so called "soft short" internally. Which basically means that there is enough sulfite/lead debris that has sunk to the bottom of the battery, and it has filled the catch tray until it is now touching more than one plate, this causes and internal short, and will drain the battery. *DISCLAIMER: This is For INFORMATIONAL and EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY. DO NOT PERFORM ANY OF THIS YOURSELF. IF* you perform any of this, then you are accepting *FULL RESPONSIBILITY,* and hold me completely harmless in all ways, forms, and measures. #1 - empty the battery of its original 'acid' into a bucket or other plastic container. Add baking soda to neutralize the sulfuric acid. #2 - clean the entire top of the battery of any dirt or build up. Don't get the dirt into the open cells. Dirt on the top of a battery can actually become conductive and WILL drain a battery. This is why the top of any lead acid battery should be cleaned periodically. #3 - place battery into some type of container that won't leak, like a plastic tote or something. This will catch any water that you spill when filling, or solution that may bubble over out of the battery. #4 - Heat 1 gallon of water (this can be tap water, but distilled is always better, however this will not be kept in the battery) don't heat it so hot that it is boiling, just 100f to 130f (38c to 55c) or so. #5 - Add approx 10oz of baking soda to the 1 gallon of hot water. Mix thoroughly until the baking soda is Completely Dissolved. Be careful if mixing in a closed container or bottle, as baking soda being mixed in hot water can build up some pressure. #6 - Fill the battery, you may have to fill each cell slowly as sometimes it may react somewhat violently, especially the first fill. *Wear eye protection.* #7 - When the reaction stops (almost no bubbling), empty and repeat this baking soda solution "wash" cycle at least 3 times, maybe more. The cleaner the water is when you empty the battery, the better. #8 - Empty the battery of the final baking soda "wash" solution. #9 - Fill the battery with **Distilled water**, put the caps back on and shake the battery good, remove caps, empty. Repeat this "rinse" cycle several times, to get any baking soda water residue washed out, along with any other debris that can be flushed out of the battery. When you empty the last time, the water should be fairly/mostly clear. #10 - Lastly, heat 1 gallon of DISTILLED water, again to around 100f to 130f or so. #11 - Mix in approx 12 oz of **EPSOM SALT** to one gallon of hot water, shake it up. Make sure the epsom salt is completely dissolved, which it should dissolve fairly easily in water at these temps. Be Careful if mixing in a closed container or bottle, as it may build some pressure, but usually not as much as the baking soda does. #12- Place battery back into the tote or other plastic container. Place something, small piece of wood etc, under the "front" or "back" side of the battery so that it leans slightly in one direction. This will allow any solution that bubbles out to run off the side of the battery instead of "flooding" the top of the battery, as that would allow some of the charge being put into it to bypass the cells. #13 - Fill the battery with the hot Epsom Salt Solution, and top off each cell. #14 - Once filled, place the battery on charge. A "smart charger" will **NOT** work for this. You must have a plain old "dumb" charger that will "trickle" charge at low amps, usually 1 or 2 amps. #15 - Put the battery on "trickle" low amp _(1 to 2 amps)_ charge. Charge for 24 hours. #16 - After 24 hours, Temporarily disconnect charger. Check battery voltage with and without load. _(a Schumacher BT-100 battery load tester is currently $35 on amazon, always good to have for a number of reasons, but there are other methods of load testing a battery too, search RUclips)_ Write down the voltages. Top off any cells *IF* low with more Epsom Salt solution. Put the battery back on charge for another 24 hours. After 24 hours, recheck voltages, top off any low cells with Epsom Salt Solution, put back on charge. Repeat this final step until the battery is *EITHER* putting out its full rated CCA _(cold cranking amps)_ capacity. *OR* until the battery "tops out" and the voltages do not rise anymore over the course of several days. This process may take a week or possibly longer before the battery will "level off". If the voltage Never Rises at all, or levels off at low voltages/low CCA... then your battery has a different problem, like a broken/disconnected plate or etc. So Yes, this is not a "quick fix", and its takes some work. However, at the end of it, you usually will have a good working battery, for only a small $ investment. And No, this does Not work with every battery, as there can be many different problems for why a battery goes "bad". But many batteries, especially if they aren't maintained or are allowed to sit for long periods of time without being charged _(like how lawnmower batteries usually are neglected all winter)._ As that is one of the reasons why the sulfite will build up on the plates to begin with. *_*Side Note:_*_ Don't let a battery that is "run down" to be out in freezing weather, as if it is Very Low on charge, that means the "battery acid" is mostly water at that point, and the battery can freeze and bust the case._ However, even if it doesn't work on every battery, you can still save quite a few batteries using this process, and at the least extend a batteries life, sometimes as much as 4 years, which saves quite a few $$. Even if it only works for a few months to a year, it can get you by for a while, and can definitely get you out a pickle if no other means is available. And YES, if the battery that you reconditioned starts to have problems again in the future, you can repeat this process and it should repair the battery again, so long as the problem is *still one of the two issues* that I described at the beginning of this post. Hope this is a help to someone. ~Shalom
@@amatortarimci yeah, haven't "reconditioned" any more batteries for a while now. didn't have much luck with them lasting more than a few months really before they began dropping again in most cases. and it just takes a lot of time, especially to do multiple batteries. however, if an emergency arose that a person couldn't go buy a battery, if u have supplies on hand this might help get you by for a while.
I did the following experiment during my studies. A discharged (10.8V) 12V / 40Ah lead acid battery was short-circuited with a 10 ohm 100 watt resistor. The discharge current was measured every hour and recorded. The experiment ended after one month, but the set-up was left unchanged. After another 18 months, I checked the structure again. No more current flowed through the lines and the measured voltage was 0 volts. After removing the connections, I could see an increase in voltage on the voltmeter. After approx. 1 hour this reached 1.3 V and only rose slightly. Long story short, it is not possible to measure a voltage of 0V with a lead battery if not either a short circuit or the lack of any electrolyte. My humble opinion is - what is shown - does not correspond to reality.
Years ago, batteries had four or six caps on the top so that you could unscrew them and open the battery to see the water level in the battery. Now it's supposed to be a the revelation of a big secret. It isn't. Battery manufacturers have hidden the filler points making you believe that you have buy a new battery when you can recondition the one you have. There was a broken ring inside the battery access ports that showed to what level the water had to be set. BTW, use ONLY distilled water. Clean distilled water, in concert with the sulphuric acid (H2SO4), helps the charging process be more efficient. NEVER use pure H2SO4 Also, use acid resistant gloves and goggles. Better yet, wear a full faceguard. Battery acid can burn the hide off of you in a heartbeat and you really don't want this in your eyes. Can a battery backfire on you? Short answer? YES! Wear the goggles/faceguard !! Lastly, mixing of water and acid is a highly exothermic process. When water is added to acid, due to small amount of water, evolved heat will change it to vapour and acid will spill out and may cause injury. So it is advised to mix acid to water and not water to acid. Know what you are doing before you attempt this process. Be safe!
You are right, is there another guy tá that "restore" vintage in the video skeep some steps so that makes me think whay? So I found the same thinks on ebay😁
A 10 min video that could have just said, “add water.” The salt (if table salt) is unnecessary and will eventually cause problems. Slicing the vent caps will also just accelerate dry out.
once the inner plates warp, and bend (or worse, touch) - the battery self-shorts and is, without internal mechanical re-tooling - VERY much dead. Pouring salts and "other gimmicks" don't repair neglect or poor servicing or mechanical/ design failure. End of story.

Why would you cut the caps? I used battery water and charged it with the caps off then dried up any excess water I then replaced the caps and sealed the lid, if you cut the caps water will spill over every time you charge it, My battery works perfectly now.
How to watch this video (and save 6 minutes of your life while still obtaining the same amount of information): 1. Mute the volume of the video completely and put on your own favorite song in the background, or skip any background music all together. (There is no information being delivered verbally in this video.) 2. Fast forward to 2:00. (The first two minutes are just spent showing time after time that the battery is dead and measuring 0 V on the multimeter.) 3. Watch the rest of the video in x2 speed. Congratulations! 6 minutes saved.
So the short-short-short-short version is... short out the battery, open it up, fill each cell with a saltwater mixture and mix it thoroughly. Top it off again. Replace caps. Charge. Use. (assuming this actually works)

I've tried this a few times. Magnesium sulfate will work on a lawnmower battery or ATV. It will store battery voltage, but the amps will be really low and not pass a load test. Use sulfuric acid for car batteries and you'll retain the amps, and have enough cold-cranking amps. The sulfuruic acid will cost around $40-$60.
yes take chilli.....strong and spicy.....very good, lifetime durability , you never need to charge the battery again...it will be a fusion of chilli...

I have the same problem with my scooter battery, and I tried this method, it worked, but it was quite scary, when I was adding the salt water, I can smell some kind of chemical, and being safe, I charge the battery outside, during charging, I can see little bit of water slowly bubbling at the cap, so make sure you do slow charging, no more than 2 amp. Be safe
Mixed a kilo of salt and 10 litres of water. Poured the mixture into the battery and engine of the car. Started the engine. Jumped out of the car and started screaming out frustration .. perfect jump start.
I once revived a12v motor cycle battery. What I did was empty all the the old acid out flushed it with water, then mixed baking soda up in a container of water and then filled up the battery with it. I let it sit about 30 mins and then drained it, flushed it. This cleaned up/descaled the sulfated plates but I caution you ! do this too much and you risk destroying the linings between the plates this will cause a short or bad cell and your out of luck !. I repeated this step until it stopped reacting (bubbling) then I super flushed it with clean water and drained it. I then filled the battery with (new) Battery acid electrolyte and charged it. And yes indeed it did work I got another year out it. The trick is how bad or how long the battery has been dead has everything to do with it as in are the plates half gone etc or it is shorted... then forget about it. We tried this on on old golf cart batteries that had been dead for a "long" time and it didn't work.

Now the question for me is how long will it last before you have to exchange it for a new one. I would guess that all depends. Thanks for sharing that with us. I don't have a motorcycle anymore, but that's good to know.
I'm not sure if the salt will damage or restore the battery. If you had charged the battery first and check whether it accumulated charges and then charge it if it doesn't, that would have been a better way to validate the potency of using the salt. It is called comparative analysis in research.

They never work except to light up LED’s as they draw very little current. The internal battery resistance is very high for discharged battery. You cannot reduce the internal resistance by any method for a dead battery. You cannot draw current in amperes.
We Adding salt do only Harm to a battery. Device by putting 15 v dc or more on the poles. Restrict the current to 10%of the capacity. Battery heats up, but that helps!

Well in the industrial space we charge them at finishing rate until the specific gravity stops appreciating. If it is not at name plate gravity still then we acid adjust. Then we load test and if it hits 80% capacity it will be resold. This is how battery manufacturers recover batteries sent in a scrap, not everything will recover but a decent amount to make it worth it. Almost every single video on RUclips about recovering batteries or desulphating are bullshit. No pulse charging, no special additives, just normal constant current charging at the finish rate of the battery.
good but water should distilled ,and how much ampere will loose compairing new one? it should keeps 5 A x hour . well try to put a load with 1 A 12v as bulb and look how many time resist to keeps 12 v then that kind of batteries once is charged should signing on multimeter around 13,4 volt 12v means is almost defected i guess the battery without any acid will lose alot of capacity neither ?

*Wear eye protection.*
#7 - When the reaction stops (almost no bubbling), empty and repeat this baking soda solution "wash" cycle at least 3 times, maybe more.
*_*Side Note:_*_ Don't let a battery that is "run down" to be out in freezing weather, as if it is Very Low on charge, that means the "battery acid" is mostly water at that point, and the battery can freeze and bust the case._
However, even if it doesn't work on every battery, you can still save quite a few batteries using this process, and at the least extend a batteries life, sometimes as much as 4 years, which saves quite a few $$.

Thank you. This will be of great help to us on tight budget to buy a new battery.
Shalom
Do you mix some of the old battery acid with the Epsom salt water. Every video I have watched on this subject says to mix the old liquid with the new.
That was the coolest answer and explanation I’ve ever seen on RUclips. Thanks
Thank you
True. But Anglo-Saxons are easily fooled, as with the perpetual motion machines on RUclips.

Brother, how about the reviving a dead battery using 200amp welding machine? Would it work as shown in some youtube videos?
Nice, susubukan ko sa battery ko good work sir👍
A 10 min video that could have just said, “add water.”
The salt (if table salt) is unnecessary and will eventually cause problems. Slicing the vent caps will also just accelerate dry out.
Sir don't feel bad about the comments I'm telling you the video's is just amazing
once the inner plates warp, and bend (or worse, touch) - the battery self-shorts and is, without internal mechanical re-tooling - VERY much dead. Pouring salts and "other gimmicks" don't repair neglect or poor servicing or mechanical/ design failure. End of story.

My battery is dead now
I've tried this a few times.
Can I get better result if I add some seasonings! :)😀

These fucking idiots making these inept videos with horrible music instead of actual instruction need their own site, where people can go if they decide they want to ruin anything they need help with!
Can we use inverter water instead of salt solution #plzreplyamericantech #americantech
Good work useful
Why waste 2 mins showing us that the battery was dead. I think we got the idea from the title and the first 20 secs. of the video.
Great work Sir!
This is not true i tried it nothing happened, it does'nt charged. 2volts is charged for 3hrs..no good...
If you happen to be short of energy storage batteries, you can take a look at this product. It doesn’t matter if you buy it or not.

Good job 👍
It's not restoration. It's actually maintaining that's it. simply get a bottle of distilled water and top up the compartments....charge use. That's how globally everyone does......
That is a joke...WATER AND SALT......The worst bull I
ever seen on youtube.
Me gustan mucho tus videos, los que me llegan de tus notificaciones no me los pierdo.
No estoy seguro de que el video sea verdadero
Nice
Qe sal común???
It was too long even when I watched it at double speed
Tradu în România și atuncea va fi perfect
Maraming slamat mga guys sa pag bigay ng mga good ideas paano irepar ang dead battery.
really, change the music dude!!!! it's so painful listening to it
"Mute" ???
I did quick !!!!!
Wow zero volts ... that would be the first time i have EVER seen that .. obviously a faked video , when a battery fails its usually due to sulfation , a situation that cannot be rectified unless the sulfides are removed from the plates on each cell
@@Jaker788 so what is the best and easiest way to recover it in home with minimal tools and additives ؟؟؟؟
@@Jaker788 Yah!
good but water should distilled ,and how much ampere will loose compairing new one?
it should keeps 5 A x hour . well try to put a load with 1 A 12v as bulb and look how many time resist to keeps 12 v
then that kind of batteries once is charged should signing on multimeter around 13,4 volt
12v means is almost defected
i guess the battery without any acid will lose alot of capacity
neither ?
any one?
Yep, this battery should keep 13,5 volts to be ok
@@Bigardim or more less
Ouch . Salt in a lead acid battery, no distilled water and then cut open the protection caps .. not a good idea..
I think so.
U are great guru
The correct title of this video is: "How to waste 10 minutes of your time, watching a video that helps you destroy a dead lead acid battery with salt and ...music for bonus"
Надо в начале на зарядку было поставить, затем уже напряжение замерить для достоверности эксперимента! 🙂
Hello and Thanks for the video, Can I use seawater instead of adding salt? Thanks in advance for your response regards.
no. same reason you don't use tap water when topping up, but distilled water instead.
There is a cut on the video what if you change the battery ....
De haber visto este video antes me hubiera ahorrado una lana....
這個電池是把電壓救回來了,但是蓄電能力有多少安時,卻沒有測試,或許應該拿個啟動馬達來測試一下。看看是否能啟動機車正常運轉。
