I know a lot of people are here for love and the movie but damn I remember hearing this as a kid and than I saw the movie and brought back all those good memories
Watched this movie with my Jamaican born parents. When this scene came on they both started smiling and singing, I could tell they were transported back to there youth. Special moment for me.
The Skatalites and "Coxone" Dodd sent the careers of Bob Marley and the Wailin' Wailers off in style with this ska masterpiece. It was a Jamaican #1 smash and just about the biggest selling single of its time on the island. No wonder, the musicianship on this record is impeccable all around (even from the background vocals). You'll not hear ska this disciplined and rocking at the same time very often. This is the official beginning of the legends of Marley, Tosh, and Livingston ("Wailer").
@Donald Morrow Well it's been said that the Wailers were always ahead of their time! This music also provided the inspiration for the "Two-Tone" ska revival of 1979-82 (in Britain) through which I discovered Jamaican music in general!
There's no place in Jamaica called shanty town bro. This was at a dancehall back in the days when people went to a dancehall. The DJ is the "ugly one", king stitt the top dancehall DJ of the day, long before U Roy came on the scene.

Memories are made of this
The best scene in the film One Love is when young Marley records while singing the song Simmer Down
And the operator in the booth skanking out..Best part...
With the young Peter Tosh
They were kids when they did that song, young teenagers heading for greatness
Greatness is immediately at hand. Behold. Jah bless.
Foram 10 anos exatos, de luta e determinação, é transcendental
Few know when we dance we praise our God. Know yourself Israel.

Let's not forget Lee Scratch as well dude!
I had the honor and pleasure of meeting Roland Alphonso and Lester Sterling in '98 when The Skatalites played in Winston-Salem, NC.
I love Peter Tosh's blended yet distinct voice on the Chorus. Just iconic 👌
With all the crap and hate going on in the world we need this music more than ever. Pure joy ❤️

Couldn't agree more, real music to lift you soul. I play these oldies all the time, can't stand what's happening with most of the music we hear now.
I agree with this 100%!! Cheers from Detroit!

How good and pleasant it is too see brothers and sisters have a good time in unity
You do know Jamaica at the time was being decimated by politics and gang violence. You need to look up real dancehalls at the time. Not all Hollywood.
One love was truly beautiful

Jamaica. I think it's a bar near shanty town

This video was a reenactment of the 60's dancehall scene dancing to the early sound system of Sir Coxcine Dodd.
