I guess capybaras weren't as well known 20 years ago as they are today, because that seems like a very generous question for half a million.

Same with the quarter million question. Everyone knows what the flag of India looks like. It quite obviously has a wheel on it.
I remember a similar question in the US version with Meredith Vieira for $250k, asking what a Bichon Frise is (options were dog, which was the correct answer, and the other three weren't even animals), the contestant ended up using all lifelines on that question, majority of the audience said dog, the contestant unfortunately still ended up walking away with $125k

I mean the question about India was also a bit ridiculous

Americans with Shakespeare: only knowing Romeo and Juliet or A Midsummer Night's Dream from 8th grade. Brits with Shakespeare: directly quoting the play.

4:01 Incredibly bright guy but to not know the answer to which symbol appears on the national flag of India was crazy. It’s one of the most famous flags.

Yeah I was surprised too. If he knew that he could’ve won £1 million (at Q15 he implies he knew a friend who would know the answer)

He almost became a millionaire winner even he did extremely well.

The flag of India - a former British colony - for 250 000 pounds? 😮 In Sweden, that would have been at the 1000 pound level!

Thought so as well. But 20 years ago who would have been so sure?! - It's not like today with social media where most are plonked in our feeds daily.

@ Everybody studies flags at school, and if there is one Asian flag a Brit should know, it’s India 🇮🇳!

Studies flags? It was a while ago since my schooldays but I’m sure we didn’t do that. That’s looking at pictures for anyone who wants to learn them isn’t it?

If he saved that 50/50 for the million pound question (as he obviously should have, since he expected his phone-a-friend to know the answer), it could very well have left Yugoslavia and Mike would've been another million pound winner. Very unfortunate he had to use two lifelines on what I think is a very easy question.

Yeah. Even if he saved his phone a friend lifeline, he implied he knew a friend who knew the answer

Capybara should have been a 1k question tbh. How is that worth half a mill? Even my 8 year old daughter could answer that one multiple choice.

General Knowledge in the UK has changed a lot in the last 20 years. You’ll also find that some of the questions in the opening £1000 were harder back then than today.
