The only thing that matters in terms of saving/restoring Star Trek is how quickly Alex Kurtzman can be booted out of the franchise. Unless he's gone, it doesn't matter who owns the IP. It will continue to be crap. If Skydance had anything to do with Into Darkness, that does not bode well. Worst ST movie ever made (thanks to Kurtzman).
As long as they hire actual adults to write the stories...people who understand plot development continuity...wait, was that little girl just saved by a purple bunny? Great Scene! Okay, not feeling very confident here...
That requires writers and directors don't have a massive ego and/or a list of boxes that must be ticked for appearance sakes. It seems to be too difficult to write anything good these days because of interference from execs or so called fans of a franchise poo pooing everything new that's made. I'm sure walking through a minefield blindfolded would be easier 😂.
@@Damien_B78Have you not seen Strange New Worlds? If that bridge was any brighter the crew could get eye strain. There are lights coming from every crevasse.
I sincerely hope this will lead to a higher level of preservation in terms of Paramount's legacy content - specifically the two series that have yet to see any kind of remaster/re-release - Deep Space Nine and Voyager!
A couple of respectful fact-checks: Skydance is buying National Amusements, which is a theater company that owns the Redstone family shares of Paramount stock. and would give Ellison and partners control of the shareholder votes and, thereby, the board. I detailed what that means in an article over at CBR (I used to be a real reporter before I started covering entertainment). Also, the FCC has nothing to do with this, AFAIK. The only area the FCC might have some interest is with broadcast television, specifically CBS TV. You are right though, that as investors, the UAE would not be seen as having a controlling interest. I don't even think the Department of Justice would need to be involved (as they are with big company mergers like WarnerMedia and Discovery, et al.) since Skydance would be, essentially, just buying stock and a couple dozen movie theaters from Shari Redstone. Again, I lay it all out more cogently in the article than this late-night YT comment, haha. Now, as a Trek fan, I like Skydance over all of the suitors because they like to make movies and TV shows. WB would be more likely to cancel/write off Star Trek productions than release them. At least on the creative side (who I talk to), there is no animosity for Secret Hideout like some of the angrier fans think. I've heard AK is pretty good to work for as big EPs go. The problems with greenlighting projects go above AK to the Paramount execs, who are (of course) panicking over hemorrhaging money. Mostly because of D&D and Mission: Impossible box office failures. Paramount+ has seen decent subscriber growth per the last earnings call. Problems aren't fixed, of course, but it's not as dire as expected. (And don't forget there is also the separate talks inside Paramount with Universal to merge the two studios' streaming services. I think that is happening independent of the Skydance/National Amusements deal.

I think it's more of a merger than an acquisition. Berkshire Hathaway was reported to have trimmed their stake by a third in February. Skydance may have purchased a controlling share from the largest owners and initiated a merger. If Disney makes a deal with Warner Bros Discovery there could be a possibility of merging Marvel and DC comics property for films involving both.
You Know What I am Worried about is that If CBS Sells Paramount to WB or Skydance Paramount will have to Rewrite a Bit of the Continuity when it Comes to Star Trek Because how Much of the Continuity is Owned by CBS? a Good Portion I would Say, This Means we Will Probably get a New Continuity Most Likely.
Thank you for the video! I love the Jack Reacher show and the first movie! I read the books. The second movie varied too much from the book for my liking.
Skydance seems to make money from films that appear at cinemas- explosion spectacle. Star Trek works best as a TV series. To me it seems like Skydance have no real business making TV, not just Star Trek but CSI, comedies like Cheers, and SpongeBob SquarePants. I would think they would want to get something back for this IP, either by selling it on or renting it out to someone that does make TV, especially as there is a lot of conjecture if serialised TV is a viable revenue.
Paramount with Skydance as a subsidiary maybe. A merger possibly but only if Paramount gets to keep its name for instance Skydance/Paramount or vice versa.
Why is Tim Cook not pulling the trigger on owning ALL of the Paramount IP? Think about the budget and solid storytelling that AppleTV+ / Apple Studios invested on their sci-fi series and then imagine that treatment on Star Trek? Add-in properties such as Yellowstone, Top Gun and Mission Impossible… this is a no brainer!!!
I'm like the Jack in the Box on the Island Of Misfit toys...I don't have any dreams left to dream what we will get is more Discovery-like Trek maybe in fifty years or so...they can haul Trek back out and create something worth watching...
Paramount is undergoing a metamorphosis but Star Trek will continue. I am hoping that if Skydance buys a controlling interest they will be smart enough to have something such as Star Trek studios. I also hope that they will realize that Star Trek is better streaming then in the movie theaters. The Kelvin time line movies proved that especially the last two even though the 2009 movie did quite well. I am hoping that they buy out Kurtzman's contract and bring in someone such as Jonathan Frakes to oversee production. I have nothing against Kurtzman . I think that his record is more towards the positive, Picard S3, Lower Decks, Prodigy, Discovery after S1. Star Trek is 60 years old & that there is still fresh content originating from a a TV show that first aired from 1966-1969 is amazing.!
paramount market cap is 7.52 bn not 30 bn and about sky dance buying paramount, i don't think this should be a problem if this saves the network. i hear they are divesting from the india business too. probably there won't be much left of the network after selling paramount+ to peacock, star trek to wbd, seriously tv networks are not really the future. do they have skydance streaming or do they plan to make content to be licensed only?
I think the issue with Paramount (and this is an issue that I think a lot of the so called "Toxic Star Trek fans" have with them is that there is no one to actually out there to know what it is that they SHOULD be doing to make a course correction for Star Trek. Let's look at it this way: Star Trek: Discovery & Star Trek: Strange New Worlds are clearly not part of the original Star Trek timeline (SNW especially after the whole Khan in 2022 episode) & thus should just be shunted into its own parallel timeline, much like the Kelvin Timeline was established to be. Star Trek: Picard shares existing visuals for Discovery with the first two seasons & a course corrected attempt was made with Terry Matalas at the helm, but he still had to work with what was already established. As far as most of the original Roddenberry Star Trek fans are concerned, the TNG cast that show up in Season 3 are NOT the same characters that existed at the end of Nemesis & thus, this is just as much Discovery alternate timeline Trek. People also hate the deaths & character twists they put in, such as Seven's early behavor, Icheb, Ro & Shelby's deaths, etc. Star Trek: Legacy as a follow up to Star Trek: Picard would have to do a lot of course corrections in order to live up to the hype for it. Star Trek: Lower Decks unfortunately has a problem that it's animated so that many people are going to dismiss it as being canon & because they make reference to the crossover with Strange New Worlds, it's essentially going to have that parallel timeline stamp on it along with the rest of Kurtzman's Star Trek. It's also quite good and the characters have really grown on me. Star Trek: Prodigy has a similar issue when it comes to Lower Decks in being animated, but it also has an additional problem: It was advertised as being Star Trek geared for kids, so it automatically makes it a potin of not being something that many will bother trying. It's a shame because the characters show growth & we have a promising 2nd season to watch, especially with the EMH from Voyager being a prominent guest star. Star Trek: Section 31 movie is honestly something that many people have never wanted & is more or less Kurtzman's pet project for Michelle Yeoh. There is still much we don't know about what it's going to cover so the jury is still out on where it falls into things, but the reception is already on the colder side to Lukewarm. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is another series that had been talked about for some time (and as far back as anyone can remember with different talks even before Kurtzman) but many consider it to be DOA from the start because it's more or less a 2nd spin off of Discovery since it's taking place in the 32nd century. Whomever I feel takes over Star Trek, they're going to have a monumental task in order to win back those "Toxic fans". No one will be won back if Skydance continues to keep Secret Hideout on board. They MAY come back if they get someone in who knows the franchise & push out Secret Hideout, but also dump all of the Kurtzman Trek stuff & completely start over from the end of the TNG era or maybe even a flash forward like TNG did so there's no chance of them ruining any legacy characters like Secret Hideout has. These are just my two cents on what I've experienced. I honestly want to see what is going to happen in the future, both for Secret Hideout's Star Trek & the franchise overall.

Anything tied to JJ Abrams is a flat no for me will not even ever bother again. He will just do some rehash. He has not one original idea in his brain. Will just push the agenda that Hollywood wants.
Maverick came out in 2022, not last year. Also, I don't know why SkyDance would feel burned from the JJ movies. They were gigantic hits! "Into Darkness" was the highest grossing in the franchise, even adjusted for inflation, and the fourth highest at the domestic box office. Just because hard core fans hated it doesn't mean it wasn't a success. (I'm a hard core fan and loved it as an alternate universe story.) Anyway, I find your videos interesting and respect what you're doing but these kinds of very obvious inaccuracies undermines your credibility on the things we have to take your word for.
Yer sorry I’m still not used to the fact it’s 2024!! On Abraham’s being gigantic hits? I’m sorry you are massively incorrect.. For one it’s not just inflation you need to consider but ticket prices that gave out paced inflation so basically a ticket costs more today.. now that is only really relevant in considering how many people actually went to the cinema to watch. More importantly was how much the movies cost to make.. 2009 trek did okay but only really made about 60 million in profit for the studio, into darkness was about the same.. and those figures are based on production cost and generally don’t include promotional costs.. nemesis is considered the biggest trek flop but closely followed by Beyond that lost 30 million by some estimates. So no the Abraham’s movies have not been financial successes. First 2 broke even and beyond lost money.
Not sure Skydance is the right people to own the Trek IP. People are NOT looking for a multiverse. That has been done to death and people are fed up. The alternative lincese Trek (2009 onward non prime) sucks. Kurtzman reputation has been ruined. I will say though, Skydance is infinitely a better option than Warner Brothers.
@@Kelvryn Your in the minority and the majority of fans don't agree according to them not spending money on the films and by extension, the series based on the License. Abrams Trek doesnt have any Trek in it. What's the like about it? Most of the cast are awesome, but beyond that, Jar Jar Verse is devoid of what made Trek, Trek. You might as well be watching Star Wars with how similar Jar Jar made it to it.

"Prodigy" is more than just my #1 current "Star Trek" show, but among my "Star Trek" #1s as well, along with my #1 golden-age and overall "Star Trek" show: "The Next Generation." My #1 multiverse is "Power Rangers." Of course, they're just my opinions, so nothing to worry about.
It’s too bad that Star Trek can’t form its own production studios like Marvel did. Also Star Trek should share its trademarked products income with its parent company Paramount.
I'm not sure. If Skydance was just a subordinate following the orders of Bad Robot they might not have been a driver of $4it Trek, but simply an 'employee' just trying to get into the Trek IP as part of the only game in town. I wouldn't blame them without proof they had any substantive control of the direction it took. They would need to replace all the modern DEI ideology with the original Roddenberry IDIC ideology. And any adult-cry-babies talking back to their superiors just get court martialed and kicked out of Star Fleet. [Remembering the scene in TNG when Worf was called on the carpet by Data and Worf immediately recognized his own error and apologized]. Also, bring back calling every sentient being of every species in the chain of command with the honorifics of Mr or Sir or He with no offense intended (but with no apologies).
Skydance will have to diversify as long as they're backed by a sovereign wealth type fund. Presumably they will divest themselves so the deal will go through.
Whoever owns it I hope finally understands that Star Trek is not like Star Wars. Its smaller, different, more intellectual and can’t be produced like a 200M $ movie. But it needs more care for the brand definitely! It needs a fresh start that does not neglect previous installments. The premises are so easy to see, I just don’t get why no one finally develops a story based on that.
trek atm is in a ditch that nobody wants to touch. the last 5 years the value of trek is at an all time low, look at the merchandise......there is none, no company wants to make anything of disco, only the tng stuff sells
I did like Terminator Genisys . I wasn't that impressed with Life. I would really like to see them get rid of secret hideout if they don't let Paramount sell this Star Trek IP to Warner Brothers
Not sure it is a franchise worth saving anymore, Discovery has been down right dreadful, the only good movie was the first one, rehash of old stories and Beyond was just dreadful. Picard messed with the entire continuity no one know what time line they are sticking with. Is it the Kelvin one created for the movies or the real one, it seems a jumbled mess of both. They need a re set.

@@axelhopfinger533Yep, J.J. Abrams and Bad Reboot too .
Anything tied to JJ Abrams is a flat no for me will not even ever bother again. He will just do some rehash. He has not one original idea in his brain. Will just push the agenda that Hollywood wants.
@@scotttildAmen !
@@scotttildJ.J. Reboot is just as toxic to franchises as Kurtzman and while we're at it let's not forget the queen franchise killer Kathleen Kennedy.
It was a dreadful movie just a rehash which is what JJ Abrams does, takes old story lines changes a few things and he has a bad movie.
The Abrams trek isn't too bad. As long as prime trek also exists, I'm happy with more Abrams trek.
@@smileygabe22 Never seen JJ Abrams and Jar Jar Bink's in the same room at the same time.
@@safirahmedIf you did, it would be very difficult to tell them apart.
@@smileygabe22 JJ is unlikely to say he is ever so sorry to fans of Star Wars and Star Trek.
Great vid! I'm ready for another new era in the "Star Trek" multiverse.
Why? What's wrong with true Trek Prime? 2009 onward Trek was an utter failure.
@@smileygabe22 Hello, Gabe. Nothing, to be honest.
@@DonDonP1I hear ya. I'm sure there are some aspects of it that is good
As long as film companies fight to get new scifi movies out to us little people, im all up for it, however they do it.
Did he just say “BO-hemoth”?
I just hop Kurtzman and Goldsman are out. And let the door hit them on the way out.
"where we would like it to go as fans" Who do you think represents the fan community? It's not overly vocal youtubers that spent the last several years complaining about everything Trek because it gets them hits..
Is this the same Skydance that didn't want to deal with the TV side of things? The film side was their interest, no?
Skrydance I think is interested in doing the TV side as long as they get someone else to produce TV for them. They have several projects that they are funding right now.
I’d hoped Disney would have stepped in
Breaking News the secret source is Alex Kurtsman who else would want to leak information to a RUclips channel with 30,000 subscribers when the are channels with millions of subscribers. Stay tuned and I will reveal the secret recipes for KFC, Coke and McDonalds, from my secret sources!
🤣🤣. If only I didn’t have a 3 year record of being right hey.
Why has Warner walked away?
I’ve
Never heard of Star Trek. Is that like Star Wars? 😂
I want to see Star Trek taken away from Secret Hideout altogether. They have screwed it up enough already.
You’re crazy if you think Into Darkness wasn’t a box office success. It made nearly half of a billion dollars on a 190 million budget. 😂
Which means with all the additional costs and fees it actually might have made a humble profit
WB is Out again NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Paramount has had a history of mismanagement. Paramount needs an enema. New management could revive and restore Paramount's assets.
Not a lot of original thinking going on over at Skydance.
Just as long as they get RID of kertsman and jar jar Abrams and badreboo
Aliens.
I’ve found that the Star Trek Baton has successfully passed from :
Gene Roddenberry
To
Harv Bennett
To
Rick Berman
To
Alex Kurtzman
And don’t forget that :
Rod Roddenberry
Is involved with his family’s Star Trek Franchise, his father’s creation.
Am so glad the Warner Discovery/Paramount deal is OFF, certain films would not be made, and bad for the fans too and anti competitive !!! Hoping Red Bird buys Paramount , much better marriage .
I don't really care any more. Star Trek needs to take a long break so the AADD inflicted Drekies can go find something else to screw up/Whine about. If ANYONE that was involved with anything Star Trek post 2004 will be involved in this then forget it. It's just going to be more of the same garbage
Paramount is such a mess financially i don't think any one can sort them out. They actually have more debt than the company is worth. Paramount Global is worth $7.9 Billion yet the company has a debt of $19.7 Billion. Seriously how the hell did they run up a $19.7 Billion dollar debt. At this point i don't care who buys Star Trek, I just want Kurtzman and Jar Jar Abrams as far away from it as possible.
Get rid of secret hideout. discovery has been pure trash.
Whatever, Secret Hideout needs to have no part in Star Trek.
Likely nothing skydance only care about the movies not tv
No acclaim for movies that suck. Hollywoke has killed Star Trek.
Yes, americans don't like orher people talking in there propaganda. Fascism is based on one voice talking. One voice only, no added ideas or conversations.
I'm not interested in anything Kurtzman is involved in. If he or SHO keep Trek i'm out again.
CBS / woke DEI ……watered down STAR TREK . ONLY PICARD S3 focused on the content and fan base . CHANGES R NEEDED ❤
Terminator genesis was pretty good. Dark fate was utter shit.
Yes, Dark Fate was hot garbage. Genisys was at least respectful of everything that came before and decent enough. Dark Fate however, shat on that all in the 1st five minutes. Screw that!
I wish Star Trek would go back to being Star trek. A sci fi show with minimal woke-ness but with awesome space adventures. Discovery will never be Star Trek,
I so much wanted to love Strange New Worlds I love the cast but can't stand the show maybe 2 episodes a season are OK. Kurtz Trek sucks.
Back to traditional Star Trek instead of the Woke agenda Star Trek like Discovery that gets no views!😂
The amount of cry babies on here whining about Kurtzman is laughable.
Probably more girl power nonsense.
The answer is simple. More garbage.
Paramount has been crying poverty for the last 20 years, I'm surprised someone hasn't bought them sooner and turfed most of the overpaid idiot execs that stop things being made.
Is this a good aquisition, for trek fans........hmmmmm. Yellow Alert! 🟡🟡🟡
