Or something like that (it doesn't answer how the screen resolution affects this, since 4k and 1080p images have different storage requirements, though it might not matter since these laptops may have been built with that in mind). I seriously don't see any other reason for so many companies to be so extremely into AI but this. Stuff like medical research applications and other theoretically good stuff is just the wrapping paper for the one true purpose the business world cares about: Replacing human workers with AIs they don't have to pay. The business world never cares this much about anything but ways to increase profits, as such the raw, rabid interest in AI says it all.
      With that being said, I wonder what the plan is for when so many jobs are replaced/reduced via AI, robotic assembly lines, and so on, that profits start falling simply because nobody has money to buy the ever more cheaply produced goods and services with in the first place. Replacing people with AI totally works if you're the only business that's hardly paying anybody, but if every other business does that too, well... No money going out means nobody has money to put back in either. The flow can't go one way more than the other.

    • @Anankin12

      Current AI is mathematically incapable of not "hallucinating", a human will always be needed. Companies are finding this out very quickly when they tried to replace call centers with LLMs.
      They may be able to reduce the personnel because AI will take some of the workload off of them, but:
      1) AI is expensive to run
      2) some workers need to be there to supervise and keep stuff in check.

The result is wealth inequality, fewer small businesses and people going solo. It drives normal people towards being less prosperous, because it hands power over to those with capital. One solution is UBI. Since this is essentially a client-server approach to resource distribution, granting people a minimum claim on resources produced by capital will meet their needs and boost economic output without requiring a significant societal investment in human labor.

    Fun fact: yes there are non-violent terrorist attacks. We call them disruptive attacks and while not violent inherently they do still serve to destabilize an area and may include some property damage like when a group blows up an electric grid, though again, more commonly now these will be entirely non-violent and often be based around hacking rather than being there in person. All of these big ransomware attacks a few years back that would occasionally just accomplish stuff like shutting down an entire airport were a classic form off disruptive terrorism.

Just straight onto the SSD, filling it up forever and ever? Where are they stored? Somewhere user accessible (SECURITY ISSUE, RED FLAG) or into some unseen encrypted file, slowly bloating the drive until it gets full? If a user gets a 256 SSD, will it just fill up the drive after like a month of usage?

      There will be settings for how much drive space to allocate. By default a 256 drive will reserve 25GB for 3 months worth. 512 and larger drives will reserve 50GB for presumably 6+ months. Setting it up is usually pretty easy, moreso than installing Windows and getting rid of all the obnoxious ads for other MS products. Issues mostly arise when you try to use certain hardware or software that isn't well supported on Linux, therefore your experience will depend a lot on what hardware and software you use. For games, ProtonDB is a really good ressource for compatibility information. For other stuff though, there isn't one place to find that information, and sometimes it can be hard to find a definitive answer to "does it work or not".

      Pop!_OS has been great for gaming for me for the last 4 years. I've heard Ubuntu, Mint, and some others have incorporated the patches that system76 applied to Pop. If you want a games-and-productivity replacement for windows with very little consideration and maintenance, I'd pick Pop

    Scarlett Johansson voice isn't even the same. I didn't even think about it being ScarJo until there was a big hoopla about it.

    • @technolus5742
      @technolus5742 2 месяца назад +8

      Exactly. Scarlett's voice is much more raspy and the pitch is also different and the overall mannerisms are completely different.
      Any comparisons stem from 2 factors: the parallel between the movie and this app, and the fact that Scarlett was approached a couple times for this role.
      Anything beyond that is just... not there.

    • @enginerd80
      @enginerd80 2 месяца назад +1

      I haven't heard any comparisons of the voices, but my first thought after just reading about it was that any human-like voice is inevitably going to resemble multiple people's voices in the world. The question is just whether one of those people will start publicly claiming it's "actually" his/her voice.
      Though, in this case, when the accuser is known of actually doing such roles, it's possible that the creators have heard her performances, and they could have unconsciously started to think that as how it's supposed to sound like, and while they were not intending to recreate her voice specifically, they recreated a voice that sounds to them "normal" as an AI voice.

    • @LogicalError007
      @LogicalError007 2 месяца назад +3

      @@enginerd80 It was not generated through AI. They apparently hired some woman for the voice before approaching ScarJo.
      All of this is based off one xweet by Altman, "Her". And somehow everyone started to believe it's exactly her voice despite it's not even remotely similar. To the point that apparently ScarJo is trying to sue OpenAI.
      Does she thinks that she owns a voice not even similar to her. It's all weird. But caused free publicity for OpenAI.

    People hate on the Windows Recall "feature", but some form of this is likely necessary to create truly intelligent operating systems. Imagine asking
    "hey computer, pull that video up that I watched this morning. the one with the birds". How else would the computer know what you mean? This extends to a number of potential use cases.
    The feature itself is not inherently wrong. It just needs to be incredibly secure and completely unaffected by the types of things you do. For example it shouldn't be a problem to watch an adult film and ask the OS to provide information on the contents. Or to research explosive devices (if for example it's your job or, for whatever reason, your "hobby").

      Same! I feel like Windows 12 will probably be a return back to basics when this whole AI bubble finally pops. (It's ungodly expensive for all these companies to run their "AI"s and none of them are making money currently. I personally give it 2 years before the market severely corrects.

    Hope there will be a registry hack to permanently turn this off or something that runs while you boot, starts up windows that turns this off.
    If people don't see this as a security problem, then people are weird. It starts with this only being stored locally on your machine. But what happens if your computer is hacked? or if Microsoft decides to store this on a Microsoft server.
    Hope there will be a lot of noise and demands to remove this function.
