What do you think of the Sony PVM 20L2?
i got the medical variant of it, really like it and the modular card slot in the back, was lucky and mine had a bkm-129x pre-installed when i got it.
@@Howema I also have the Sony PVM 20L2MD ! It's great! What's that extra card for?
Great video. Just recently, I started a new job as the IT guy for a private high school and we were cleaning out things and I came across a Sony Trinitron PVM-14L2. So I decided to take it home.
I pulled out all of my old consoles and I have been slowly putting together everything. Cables, switches, flash carts, plus an aftermarket add-in board.
I didn't realize how expensive receiving a free CRT would be. Haha.
Looks like a really good unit! Is it for sale?
I think they're a pretty solid range, I got a PVM-14L2 so nice to get a tour inside. :) Managed to get mine locally and his Dad got it from medical surplus fyi. Poor guy had seller's remorse and offered me $200 more to bring it back but the shipping costs and condition matter is why I bought from him. :|

Love it when you can save a CRT man keep up the good work.
I really love your channel, keep up
You know what's also great about your channel Steve,? Just when the primary discussion is on a certain TV unit, there always something to explorer and be amazed with bro.
I just spotted a Nintendo 64 console on one of your shelves. What an awesome unit the N64 is. So many hours having fun playing games on it and many still in my collection. I still have that same system that I was on launch date back in 1996 waiting in line at a local Toys R Us to be picked up and played on bro. 8^)
Anthony..
I'm glad u got it going. looks like a great monitor. I've always loved trinitron monitors, especially with flat screen. I wish u sir a merry christmas and happy holidays. Greetings from a a cold and chilly Sweden.
I've got a basically new PVM-14L2 from 2005. The colours and sharpness of this monitor are absolutely gorgeous. Never seen something better, besides of HD PVMs. Unfortunately... it's only a 14" monitor, not 20" or 27". I also had a 21" consumer Trinitron with a perfectly flat picture, that I used for the last 10 years... but now I switched to an Bang & Olufsen MX7000 CRT (27") and oh boy... while the picture is not as perfect as on a PVM, the whole "package" is better than anything else. The TV looks stunning, it has a short tube and the best sound I ever experienced on any TV to this day. I wish you could get your hands on one of these too, but they are VERY rare in the US. If you ever go to Europe, come and visit me. =)
Very nice job Steve! Always love these deeper dives.
Compared to my PVM 14M2U, this looks really compact. I think that it’s possible to tell that this monitor was designed more recent, but I haven’t seen every pro monitor let alone every consumer CRT. Also merry Christmas & happy holidays! 🎁🎄
Another good repair. Loved the outro!
Great video and happy holidays ❤️💚😎
It's a shame these are only getting more and more rare
I stumbled across a pair of these at a yard sale, guy told me to just take them.
You devil
Hi Steve, great video! I've been watching you and a few other CRT and retro gaming RUclipsrs for a while now and I was wondering if you had any recommendations for getting started in the repair aspect of CRTs? Some things just go over my head and I'd like to learn some more of the basics before I start breaking down my own CRTs
Enjoyed. Thank-You.
That tube was nearly dead, holy hell.
fantastic!
doesn't the 50/60 Hz label on the back just refer to the frequency of AC voltage it accepts, which is related to but not the same as the vertical frequencies it will display?
I wonder how much lighter crts could have been if they could have been made from the same glass that's in our phones.
I have the MD version of this but been using my 20m2mdu instead until i can figure out why the corners are extremely soft/out of focus on the 20L2. Great monitors either way though, love the MD versions look
I've got a PVM 15L5 from February 2005...wonder which model was the very last one made
I know a 20L4 for sale but I'm kind of overwhelmed by all the connections in the back. I want to play my old Megadrive, SNES and N64 on this. (PAL Europe region). Will this all work on this?
Edit: PAL N64 unmodded only has composite I believe?
I have two of these I got from work. They charged me $50 for them both. I think that was a good deal? Thanks for doing a video about these. I wish they had stereo speakers and could use a remote. I'm sure there's ways and I'm working on it.
Yeah i mean theyre worth like 5000$+ for 2 😅
I have a question: The PVM 20L4 is available for a decent prize near me. It doesn't have the controls at the bottom. Is there an external controller board that needs to be plugged in to make changes or how do those ones work? Noob question I know.
The controls are hidden in the vertical side bars. They light up, but they can also be made dark.
Man, it's gonna be a bad time when we run out of donor tubes for these tvs. Wonder if there's anybody making replacements 🤔
I was kinda surprised that you did not swap the yoke.
The donor already had a yoke on it that would have been set correctly for that tube. Why mess with it?
I have an 20L2MD, what are compatible tubes? I need to do that color test, but I only have a Wii with 240p test suite.
I think my tube is also worn out.
Is it safe and easy do adjust focus on this monitor?
How much should you expect to pay for a working a 20L2?
Hello, woooow it is beautiful. Can I buy it from you ?
Where do you find spare tubes? I got a 1986 Sony trinitron Kv25xbr and no matter what adjustments I’ve made, the red bleeds terrible and the brightness makes it worse.
Hey bro I'm interested in buying one for my retro collection, Are you currently selling one?

Folks, don't support clickbait!
Nice a ethernet jack
I'm hoarding tons of these in my basement, can't wait to unload them for big money
What else do you keep in your basement? 🔪⚰️...
@@tumslucks9781 you already know

😱😱😱
I hope your basement floods. Nothing worse than people who are just trying to make money in the retro gaming space
@@BitterspitBand hell yeah I'm flooding like metaljesus
Lol, i wish it was only capacitors that were ever the problem, i nearly dropped my coffee when you recommended that people handle the picture tube by the neck, thats a big no-no, if these implode while working on them chances are you will get blinded
It would be awesome to see some of Sony's best LCD displays, they really did make good displays along with Samsung. Also, have you tried to play retro (Sega Genisis, Super Nintendo, NES, Game cube, PlayStation, and PlayStation Two) on a QD-OLED TV?
And don’t forget Sega Master System/CD/32X/Saturn/Dreamcast, N64 and OG Xbox.
The Hz indication on the TVs and Monitors labels have nothing to do with video signals, they relate to electric current.
