My NEW T-shirt!! Hi, everyone! I'm wearing a new "Thankful" shirt today. I love it so much. Recently, I discovered a small business in Missouri that makes wonderful faith-based t-shirts for women. I want to help promote them. If you like my shirt, go check them out. www.EllyandGrace.com. Get 10% off your order with code LTH10.
As soon as he smells like her from drinking her milk & pooping it out she will take to him easier also if you take a towel and catch some of Henry's pee & rub it on the new calf it will help fool her into thinking he is Henry nursing
I was holding my breath every time the new calf approached Hope! It melted my heart to see her looking after Henry, but even more to see her allow the new baby to nurse. What a good mama she is!
I'm not surprised that you bought a 2nd calf to put on Hope, but I thought that you might buy a heifer to start to 'grow your herd'. I used to put an extra calf on my cows and raise them for veal. My experience was that less than 50% of cows will accept a calf that isn't hers if her calf is still nursing. That makes Hope special! As the calves grow, however, you will need to watch that Henry doesn't crowd the smaller one out. My wife and I are retired and the grandsons have the farm now, so please keep us posted! We relive our younger days twice a week through your blog!
Yes I was thinking too they might have done well to wipe him down good and put some of Henry's smell on him. Seems to me she is not minding him so much as something in his smell.
Great animal husbandry! Mamma cow "Hope" seems content with having another baby around, to help drink her plentiful bounty of milk. The pain sometimes of two sucklings is a nuisance to a milk cow, and can be painful. She seems to be taking to it very well. Good for you two.
Preoccupation with the new baby cow (and how he fits into the “family” with Hope and Henry) will nicely free my mind of national events. Such a blessing and such joy! Great decision for all of us, Sarah and Kevin!! J
I SO enjoyed this video. Next to Henry the new calf looks like a little bean. Can't wait to see them grow up together. It's so cute seeing the boys run and play. Thank you for sharing this adorable new time on you farm with us. ♥️🐮🐄🐄💙💙
You can make kefir, yogurt from kefir and a soft cheese from either kefir of clabbered milk. So many opportunities for great things to eat and share if family is close. Good luck little calf, you might let him nurse before you milk in the evening. That way he’ll smell like her sooner! God bless you guys!
Oh my heart broke for that skinny little calf. He will fatten up fast with Hope's wonderful milk. Hope is a sweet momma. Happy for you all. Another little life to watch grow.
You guys have to know that this was the cutest video ever to wake up to!! I said OH HOW CUTE outloud when you showed the calf in the trailer. I live alone, so I guess I was hoping you would hear it through the television. LOL I live in Illinois and I absolutely love cows. You must show us more, they are adorable playing together. Also, Henry looks so healthy!! This new calf definitely needs some fattening up. Take care and have a blessed day.
Hopefully, after the new calf passes stool, hope will think he's hers as he will smell like her, he's so awesome. You guys are awesome too, love from Australia.
I added them to the hurde I gave each mom a calf and the cow that didn't accept the calf I would put the calf behind the mom once it stands up because that's when they usually poops and I rub the poop over the calf whether it's #1 or #2 and that does the trick. When the mom smells the calf she will let it nurse
This is one of the greatest videos you have made. I am from coastal southern California and have never seen anything like this! Thank you for letting me see nature in the raw, so heartwarming that I was tearing up!! So special. Thanks Hope.
Looks like he's discovered that he can eat when Henry eats. He will accept that & he will run over to eat any time that he sees Henry eating. After a few days, Hope will fully accept him!!!
This is so lovely. Henry seems very happy with his new friend. I think you should call him Little John. This was a nice calm and happy way to wake up in a very rainy UK, near Stonehenge. Thanks you two lovelies.
How are you doing today cara? Its really nice having you on here .. I saw your profile on here and i think we definitely are on the same page on many levels. Trust, communication, loving, honoring, understanding, patience and respecting your partner. So crucial to provide balance. This is what creates such great chemistry between two people that are committed to one another.
Oh my goodness, when the two babies are romping together and snuzzling each other it is just too cute! Sending best wishes that all continues to go well. Thanks for sharing!
I watch heaps of homesteading shows and I can say that Hope looks so fantastic, her fur and her structure is in excellent condition, so you are doing everything right, I remember when you 1st got her and she has improved out of sight, you are so lucky, she is also very calm, I love her, Have a great day, Margie from Australia
I bet when you were explaining the banding, some male subscribers got the willies. Back in the 60's my boyfriend was a dairy farmer and I can remember having to introduce an orphaned calf to a new mommy - never went this smoothly but they were Holsteins,
The caves playing is probably the cutest thing ever! Hopefully Hope will eventually take to him like her own. Fingers crossed it all works out for all.
That is exactly why, as much as I would love to have some Jersey milk, there is no way we could use that much milk! I am in the process of purchasing a milk goat and I have been told she gives about a gallon/day!
Kevin and Sarah, just a thought... If you Rub Mama's and her own calfs scent onto other calf right away... Before she even gets an idea that new calf is not get own.... It goes really well, usually for all involved! We did this on many beef cattle ranches which is a bit different than dairy cattle, but I've had NURSERY dairy cows take several calves, worked with this method over the years! Named one cow "Nursery Rhyme" because of how much she loved her four babies every year, always mooing to them Softly! Love your farms, your videos and content and your heart for the Lord and sharing with all of us! One of my Favorites channels for sure! Deb
G’day Kevin Sarah & Co ;-) Congratulations absolutely beautiful new calf, & pair. An old fail safe is to rub the cows manure on to the surrogate calf, this gives the cows bio load to the surrogate, and encourages the mothering instincts to clean & nurture potentially believing its her own. Works with many different critters too. Another way is to tether the cow, allowing the calf (s) to nurse. The calf’s may also need to be drenched within the next six weeks, always followed directly by a paddock rotation. The chooks are doing a marvellous job cleaning up the patties, you shouldn’t have too many fly issues. Well done it’s a credit to you both and family. With many source blessings with truth love light laughter happiness joy fun play creativity adventures and may peace be with you all! Victoria Australia xoxo
Hi there. I'm not understanding your comment about the calves maybe needing drenched. With what and why? Is it something you do routinely in your herd? I've been around cattle for years, but am not familiar with this. Just curious.
Remember her body is going to try to ramp up even more milk production with a second calf. Talk to you vet about any extra minerals or vitamins she might need!!!
We wait all week to watch to see what is happening on your homestead. So glad things are improving. I have taken some of your suggestions on gardening here in Texas and so far my fall garden is improving. I am always so motivated by watching what you all are doing you on your farm. Thank you and God Bless.
Thank you for sharing this new adventure. How wonderful for you and the new calf. I really hope that Hope will completely accept the new calf and that the two calves become good playmates.. ❤️
Fascinating dynamic between Hope and the new calf, Hank? 😁 How Hope is making sure that Henry is fine. How the 2 calves were interacting. How Hope went to the milking stand. Where is the new calf's mum? Thank you for sharing. Have a great weekend 👋🍂🍁🤗🌻
They got him from a dairy farm. His mom is a dairy cow, she's still at the farm, they breed for the milk production. Dairy farms keep the girl calves and have to get rid of all the boy claves.
I've seen moms do this. Usually once he smells like Henry and herself, starts to pass stool from her milk, and she hears him crying to be fed, she'll let him nurse. The bond may never be as strong as it is with her own. She may wean the new calf before her own, but it will be a acceptable time for it. I'm surprised you didn't get a female. Maybe next time as Hope is still young. Dairies are known to have a calf whose mother died or rejected her calf and don't have the time to bottle feed them. Henry will enjoy a playmate!
How about Harry for the name for the new calf? Henry, Harry & Hope? The 3H ranch? Just loved this video and thanks for not leaving us hanging between the days and including it all in one video! I can’t wait to watch many more videos with the cows playing together and Hope being as loving to the new calf as she has been with Henry. The new calf is so timid and sweet and when Henry and him were nuzzling together it was just the sweetest thing! I’m sure Hope will be loving on him in no time too! God bless you all and wishing you success with your new little addition. 🙏🏻🇨🇦🥰
I was told the same. Sprinkle them with a product called "Orphan-No-More" (it tastes good so the cow will lick the calf), feed the calf the cows milk if she won't stand for it, keep them in the same area, and eventually the calf's poo will smell like her milk and she will accept it.

Living Traditions Homestead I loved it but like the green one with I love bacon.

I was holding my breath every time the new calf approached Hope! It melted my heart to see her looking after Henry, but even more to see her allow the new baby to nurse. What a good mama she is!
The scene when he met Hope was like ‘are you my Mother?’ 😢
Love following you instead of the 'news'. Thank you

You touched on it; making sure Henry doesnt muscle new calf off milk As they get older & Henry gets bigger.
Fingers crossed that Hope does adopt him. I like how he's rubbing himself up against Henry. Trying to smell like him.
Smart little guy
Yes I was thinking too they might have done well to wipe him down good and put some of Henry's smell on him. Seems to me she is not minding him so much as something in his smell.

Love this comment!
I agree completely! Living Traditions has replaced my therapist. 🙂
I SO enjoyed this video.
Next to Henry the new calf looks like a little bean. Can't wait to see them grow up together.
It's so cute seeing the boys run and play. Thank you for sharing this adorable new time on you farm with us.

I foresee some cheesemaking before long....Living Traditions Organic Cheddar!!
And yogurt 👍😊🦘🇦🇺
And cream fresh
You can make kefir, yogurt from kefir and a soft cheese from either kefir of clabbered milk. So many opportunities for great things to eat and share if family is close.
Good luck little calf, you might let him nurse before you milk in the evening. That way he’ll smell like her sooner! God bless you guys!
Oh my heart broke for that skinny little calf. He will fatten up fast with Hope's wonderful milk. Hope is a sweet momma. Happy for you all. Another little life to watch grow.
Awwww a brother from another mother
Henry is just beautiful and loves his new buddy! Your farm is so peaceful. 💜

How are you doing Today Lisa hope your had a wonderful and blessed weekend, take good care of your self and stay safe okay🥰
So sweet! I think Hope will be just fine very soon. That little baby needs her now. The two boys look like they are bonding already! ❤️🙏🏻😘
Henry and Thomas... for the friendship between Henry Ford and Thomas Edison. 😊
Maureen
When I saw Henry and Thomas I thought of the children’s show Thomas the Tank Engine.
Oh!!!!! That's perfect
She will eventually accept the new calf as long as she has enough milk for both! Its so sweet to watch the transition for the new baby!
Hopefully, after the new calf passes stool, hope will think he's hers as he will smell like her, he's so awesome. You guys are awesome too, love from Australia.
I had 18 cows that gave birth and I didn't have the intention to not and
I didn't have the intention nor the time to milk so I bought 18 calf's
I added them to the hurde I gave each mom a calf and the cow that didn't accept the calf I would put the calf behind the mom once it stands up because that's when they usually poops and I rub the poop over the calf whether it's #1 or #2 and that does the trick. O my gosh, pausing video at 4:05, he's so prescious! ❤ I'm in love!❤
This is one of the greatest videos you have made. I am from coastal southern California and have never seen anything like this! Thank you for letting me see nature in the raw, so heartwarming that I was tearing up!! So special. Thanks Hope.
Loved seeing the new Calf hope to see more videos of the three of them together 🐓🥚🐂🥛🐂🐂🥚🐓💛
Time for some homemade ice cream with some of that extra milk! Thanks for sharing their meeting. I was rooting for everything to go well.
Such a precious first meeting...it takes time to warm up to someone new...
I’d say that they are now a new family unit. Henry & the new calf rub all over each other & won’t take long to smell like each other 🙏
her milk running through its system should add to the acceptance.
the biggest smile and teary eyes accompanied the new calf when he saw the chicken and it started running and kicking because I saw a happy animal.
It's like Hope is saying,"hey kid, I am not your mama." He has decided she IS his mama and is wearing her down!😂
Kevin you are SO gentle with your animals! Well done!
You guys should give it an "H" name, because Henry and Hope both have one, lol. Maybe Hank or Harvey.......
I was thinking the same thing.. But we thought Herold was a great name.
Hank is a nickname for Henry. But that would be a good one too
debbie edwards Harvey is a good one!
I LIKE HARVEY !!!!!
I was also thinking Harvey. 🙂❤🙂
Ohhhhhh such a beautiful Miracle! Sweet Mama Hope 😘
Looks like he's discovered that he can eat when Henry eats. He will accept that & he will run over to eat any time that he sees Henry eating. After a few days, Hope will fully accept him!!!
The calves are happy with each other and Hope has been accepting of the new calf here’s a happy times xxx

Oh my goodness, when the two babies are romping together and snuzzling each other it is just too cute! Sending best wishes that all continues to go well. Thanks for sharing!
Oh that was just fabulous & Hope will accept him as she is a Great Mother & none of us would turn a child away. Cheers Denise - Australia
Name suggestion for the new calf- Hank. Henry and Hank.
I thought the same thing lol
Same here ! Great minds !
Or Harry
Yep Hank
That's what I was thinking
Oh that was so cool. The new calf got a new mom. Thing worked out good. Yahoo. 👍💖🥀💖
The kids look like they enjoy having a playmate. Hope is looking so much better - what a pretty cow and a great mom. Thank you for sharing.
We banded the little boy goat out of Rorie and it was a very simple process!! All of the goats are doing so well, we just put our buck in with them! 😍
Aww, you can see his little ribs. It will be interesting to watch the new calf catch up to Henry, somewhat. I assume Angus grow bigger.
Not precisely bigger but buffer. Way more muscle 💪 as it were.
Oh I’m excited to blessings for a great pairing of baby’s and mama cow❤🙏🏻🙏🏻
I loved this video, especially when the new calf kept rubbing on Henry. So darn cute. He looks like a deer. Hugs Kevin and Sarah❤️
Our female dexter calf looks like a fawn. Called Bambi.
Hope is such a pretty cow 🥰 that new calf looks like he could be her natural calf. so sweet.
Rub a damp cloth on her then Rub it on new calf. We use too do that .it helped.
Omgoodness what a precious little boy.
Henry was like ‘thank you for bringing me a buddy to play with.’ Your farm is growing, and it’s exciting 😁
"Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it." Prov. 13:11
Hope is the best! I just love her and now you have two baby boys to tend too. So cute. Hope is just the best mama!
Blessings

That is one of the funnest things I’ve ever seen! That poor calf looks pretty hungry. Can’t believe the difference.
Good job! You’re place is beautiful! Hope is gorgeous❤️. All the best...God Bless❤️🙏🏻✝️
Hope is an awesome cow. 🐄

I think goat milk is better for you anyways. Good luck!
@@Dee-1969 I just don't know what I'm going to do with all that milk!
Goat cheese freezes very well.
Milk, cheese, yogurt, etc.
Feed the extra to some pigs ❤️ knock two birds out with one stone. That’s a terrible analogy. lol
Awww Hope is such a good mama ♥️ *happy tears*. Mother nature is the best.
Poor new calf is skin. Fatten him up Hope!! ❤️❤️❤️
It's a dairy breed, they don't fill out as much. He will probably be taller within a few weeks.
Dairy breeds don’t fill out the same as beef breeds
I meant no insult. Just rooting for Hope to feed him more.
Henry is beautiful! The two babies sure seem to enjoy each other.
I sure hope she attaches to that little guy. The calves are so adorable. Love how they played with each other.
Henry and the new calf are soooooooo cute, thanks for sharing. When they started to play made me smile.
You are so amazing people! I wish you all the best!
What a precious video. Not sure why anyone would thumbs down it. Your videos are such a breath of fresh air. Thank you!💕🌻😊
big volume of milk - second calf - lots more of compost created - good fertilizer for garden, vineyard, and orchard !

Of ALL of God's magnificent creation, "Mothers" are the clear pinnacle!
AWESOME! 😎
OMG cuteness overload 😍
Congratulations? Glad to see Henry having a playmate for a time and Hope being a good mother has taken him in. Blessings
HIRAM-New calf's name? I love how u two are so loving to ur animals. In no time, HIRAM will look as good as HENRY.
Mom should feel better after both babies get full...I can see she is so full of milk...the babies seem to be friends now, that's good
It was so cute when he got out of the trailer, it reminded me of the children's book"Are you my mother?" He is adorable!!! Kristy in WP😊🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
If all else fails...😆 a big 🍼 good luck. Abundant Favor in Joy and Gratitude 💜

He is not giving up and that is the best part.
Thank you for sharing this new adventure. How wonderful for you and the new calf. I really hope that Hope will completely accept the new calf and that the two calves become good playmates.. ❤️
My dad always rubbed the two calves together to get Henry's scent on the new calf. Kinda confused mom, I hope this helps.
Live the two of the playing and bouncing around.
Fascinating dynamic between Hope and the new calf, Hank? 😁
How Hope is making sure that Henry is fine.
How the 2 calves were interacting.
How Hope went to the milking stand.
Where is the new calf's mum?

New calf name recommendation: Huck!
How are you doing Today Lucinda hope you had a wonderful and blessed weekend with lots of fun, take good care of your self and stay safe 🥰

How precious is that ❤️😊
Once he gets her smell from drinking her milk Hope should stop worrying. 2 yo 3 days

That was the best thing, when he started nursing!!
Just so sweet. Thank you.
