Darryl Dawkins was a humble Superstar! Best Dunker of All Time! Shattered Backboard and made NBA changed rims because of HIM. Chocolate ⛈ Thunder was his name!
He had one of the most effortless and quick moves to finish at the rim of all time. Very few even contested his power as he dunked. An original beast for sure. Straight outta High School.
Wilt Chamberlain claimed to have been stronger, but from what I’ve read, Darryl could bench press well over 600lbs and Wilt maxed at 550lbs. Darryl could also squat more.
If the ref's at the time let him get away with moves like Shaq did....OMG! Ref's called EVERYTHING against this power-house of a man.... His career wooda been amazing if they wood just let him play ! !
People don’t actually understand how big this guy was. You’re prolly thinking “and you do?” Well actually I do lol I met him when he was still alive, his kid and I went to the same day care growing up in a place called Allentown in Pennsylvania. Nobody knew his kid went to day care there for months because the mom usually picked the kid up, but one day Daryl had to come himself and my step dad recognized him being a huge Sixers fan who had watched most of his games. Before I knew who he was, I just remember going up to my step dad and saying “dad the guy in the other room is way bigger than you” which at 6 years old shocked me to death considering my step dad was 6’6 and about 300 lbs lol
He came out of high school too. What a beast. Never seen raw power and finesse like him. Shaq was inside power but not much of a threat to shoot. Dawkins had a good outside touch and was a powerhouse inside. Could have been a better rebounder. RIP big guy👍👍
Out of Evans High School in Orlando and Lake Lorna Doone Park, Dawkins was the first player to go to the NBA straight outta high school. He was a great player and a good dude who would come home during the off season and play with us at the park. His younger brothers Chico and Mitch have sadly passed away as well. Much love and respect Big Dawk, you represented us well.....
OMG , Darrell Dawkins , who was THE most picked on player, maybe of all time , with getting fouls called on HIM , when people try'd to stop him, even worse than Wilt !!!
Greatest physical talent i have ever seen. Saw him play twice in person. Too bad he never was able to live up to his potential. R.I.P. Squawkin Dawkins.
This Man stood at 6'9", strength of an 8 Foot Giant. The way he finishes inside we do not see anymore in todays game. beautiful technical jumpshot. Hall of Fame? He should be in there! First player drafted into the NBA from High School. The Collapsible rims should be named Dawkins Rims! Rest in Peace Chocolate Thunder. Inspiration!!
@@Crunchysopa52 I never liked how the Sixers disrespected DD during his tenure there. And my all time fave Dawkins slam was the Statue of Liberty against the Lakers.
Why doesn't this legend get mentioned along players like NO and Karl Malone Dr J basically all the legends? I don't know much bout him but damn I wish Giannis Antekompo could adapt Rarely Dawkins game and dunk like that. He reminds me of Shawn Kemp and Karl Malone. RIP Chocolate Thunder. That is a legendary wing span and it be cool to play 2K20 or even the upcoming 2K22 with him on the classic 76ers just to play him for the fun of it. Dope mix tape of Darryl Dawkins

He had a good touch from outside.

Wow...if u played ALL of those in slow-mo.....such staggering power....blows me away ! ! !

Chocolate Thunder,My favorite player on NBA STREET VOL.2...Was one of the best power dunkers and talkers of all time💪🏽🙏🏽
first player ever to go from high school to the NBA, he was so much fun, watched him since 1976
No mosas Malone was the first to go out of high school
@@Gordon-c9h Moses Malone was the first ABA player drafted out of high school , Darryl Dawkins was the first high schooler to go to the NBA.
He was a monstrous athlete. Beautiful physique and the strongest man in the NBA. When he dunked, if anyone got in his way, they risked injury.
That wide winding sweeping hook dunk...dang!
Great video, thanks. Time for another Dawkins video. Part 2!

It's surprising he only broke those 2 backboards. His dunks had such power!

Dude had tremendous athletic ability for a center! Had he developed more skills and fundamentals he would have been great etc
Music is lit...and fitting
Thx.
349 might be greatest dunk of all time
Darryl Dawkins was "pre-Shaq".
with a ten times better looking jumper
@@tonygajate5780 Exactly 👍🏽
Grande avversario. Un piacere averti visto dal vivo
Nothing stopped his jumper: 0.599. The Sixers couldn't win with him, and they thought they couldn't win without him. (before the Moses Malone trade)

Not only the spectacular dunks, but Darryl Dawkins also had a lot of graceful awesome-looking layups. Nobody has covered those yet. lol
well I did edit in a decent amount of his layup finishes at the cup here lol + several of his blocks
