Interesting little interview. He said a few things that hint at the... tendencies and passions that can distract him. Way of the warrior. Keeping the chaos at bay, or the rage. The rage that he says he approached his Rakic fight with.
When he says Alex is the champion... right now... you know he got a rush of energy to be in the cage, in that moment, taking Alex's head off. Probably clenched his fists. When he narrows his eyes, you know he's on the boil, visualising.
Anyone who watched his Pereira fight knows... he did and does have the weapons to beat Alex. His ability to create gaps to land punches is phenomenal and his ability to read the other fighter is already quite impressive. He said he's chaotic. It's organised chaos, though. There's a method going on. One gets the impression that the only mistakes he makes is in the judgement area of when to do what, when to switch focus or diversify his focus. But the KO predators all tend to be guilty of that single mindedness. Glover got his TDs when he was getting rocked because Jiri seems to be intent on the finish - which he was really close to - and so Glover gets the TD. Alex's hand speed... better than most, so introducing defence where normally it's not needed, the patience to always set up the attacks, first.
You dig into this because he's such a magnificent fighter, but he's always talking about his mistakes and aside from the obvious, you wonder what he feels is so wrong. Is it that he gets distracted by how much fun he's having, how much he loves being on that stage, the warrior arrival, months of preparation finally coming to a head?
    Yes. Lets get that belt!

you nailed the last part. Jiri said himself in a czech interview that hes just enjoying the rush too much, he enjoys getting hit and being in the all out war and that he recognizes its something that might have costed him the first pereira fight

@@SuperZigeiner You do get the impression, unless Alex changes something, that if Jiri stays patient, always respects Alex's reflexes and readiness, must put in the work to set him up, he will get his result.

@@Dzenda-qg4hr Right. Well, yes, trying to piece together what he's talking about.
Maybe Jiri wasn't quite as surprised as us, at how easily he was baiting Alex into swinging and missing, how easily he was getting good hits on him, beating him up, overwhelming him... I can see why Jiri may have been having too much fun. HIs ability to get through defences, and if they are going backwards, he's there the whole time, getting hits as they trot backwards, is phenomenal.
In that regard, Alex was the perfect fighter to beat him. What has Alex nailed? Experienced assessment and patience. Give it time, just don't get taken out, and find the opportunity. That Jiri is too exuberant... the complete opposite.
But forced time out for injury wouldn't have helped... but you could see it in his entrance, the staredown... so happy to be back in the fray.

When asked about his own performance he noted where he could improve. When asked about an opponent, heaps on praise.
In a world of Conors, be a Jiri.
