Was about to receive a £500 bill from BMW to change my hydraulic system to fix the problem with my windscreen wipers. Not sure how they got that idea. Followed your video and it fixed the problem. Many thanks.

The sensor is fine, what it needs is the jell that is between the sensor and the glass. The jell is what activates the rain sensor ( as water hits the the glass; the impact of the water gets transfer thru the jell which in return activates the sensor).

Hi you can buy the gel from. Ebay. I have seen it for sale in the past

Yes, if u buy it ; be sure that the sensor is level on a flat surface .when u pore the jell be sure that u pore it in a shape of a dome since when u press it in the windshield opening it has to have enough. Usually u have to do two pores. Do one allow it to dry then do the second pore on top of the first pore. Get the jell that comes with two tips because those tips r a one use.
The sensor has to be clean before u pore the jell, remove the old jell ( if u have any on the sensor), use ur fingers to remove the old jell;use a lent free towel with alcohol to remove the rest of the old jell ( it also cleans the sensor surface). The best way to pore the jell on the sensor ( my way ) : put and level the sensor in a small plastic container ( be sure that the plastic container it’s on a flat surface ); pore the jell on the sensor and cover the sensor ( by putting the led on the container y doing it this way no dust will get on the wet jell. The sensor jell gets harden by heat, do this in a hot day or apply slow heat to the area where u have the container ( be careful not to burn the container) . The reason why u apply slow heat to the plastic container is because as the plastic get warm; the heat gets transferred thru the plastic and ur creating a mini heat container.

I think it works by a laser that goes into the windshield and it should bounce back into the sensor if there are bubbles or droplets it should detect rain.

Why did you replace it? What made you think the sensor was bad?

Were you able to initialize/calibrate these sensors. I have a similar issue. I tired INPA and ISTA-D but they throw an error and don’t calibrate. When rain sensor is ON the wiper just moves periodically in 8 sec. I did not apply sensor gel as it was already there done by the ebay seller. Please let me know how you calibrated it???

Hey dude. I have not managed to connect INPA to the car yet. Tried the other was not connecting at all! Need to figure it out and try again

Please post back the solution. I have tried both INPA and ISTAD tried two sensors but this thing does not initializes I think I will need to install the rain sensor gel as well to glue it to the screen

A video on how NOT to replace a rain sensor. It’s critical that a new gel pad is used so that the IR diode light is closely coupled to the windscreen glass and fully reflects back at 45 deg to the light sensor when there is no rain.

What u did was wasted time…your problem is the gel pad…u poorly installed it and why bother doing this if you can’t test it’s function?🤦🏻‍♂️
