Great decision to watch in release order. Things will make more sense to you this way. Rogue One fits between Episode Three and Episode Four, but it’s good you’re watching four first.

The Release Order is the Best way, as 1,2 and 3 gives you information and characters that are BIG Revelations in 4,5 and 6.
And you're Correct about the Release Order of the MCU. The Biggest "Oops" was the ongoing "Strategic Homeland Security" joke from Iron Man... They Came up with "Shield" right after Cap went into the Water and was Calling themselves "Shield" during "Captain Marvel".

Excellent deduction about chronological vs release order.
Release order trumps all because film makers make a film in a specific cultural context, films that come later exist in a later cultural context that includes the earlier released films even if the fictional chronology is supposed to exist prior to that.
It's all about what the audience knows.
This is also important when reading old books or book collections, like The Bible, or big shows.

sometimes, movies first were intended to be just one movie, then made into a trilogy, and finally into a trilogy of trilogies. fans always thought that it was planned that way right after having seen the first one, other reliable sources say that it "evolved" and wasn't planned like that at first.
btw: i watched it in a big cinema when the title was only "Star Wars". It was renamed to the current full title only when part V was released.

Regarding the weapons: most were based and built around actual firearms. For example, the short laser (“blaster”) rifles used by the storm troopers were built around World War II Sterling submachine guns. They were converted to fire blanks, and this gave the actors a sound to react to. In fact, in some scenes, one can see shell casings being ejected.

This is an amazing movie series you’re starting. George Lucas modeled the look after 1930s and 40s movie serials, but he’s commenting on the rise and fall of civilizations. It has elements from mythology. The special effects company had been created for these movies then went on to revolutionize the industry.

She's a little confused, but she's got the spirit, as they say. We will be watching your career with great interest, welcome to the world of Star Wars! I saw the first film as a small kid after I persuaded my mother to rent it on VHS tape, to her regret I assume, since we rented that film at least half a dozen time before Empire Strikes Back was available. Only film of the original trio I managed to see in theatre was Return of the Jedi and I might've been technically a bit young for even that one, but they weren't that strict with the restrictions back then in our local theatre. Wonderful memories of the original three, tied to my childhood, less so of the prequel trilogy.

      Here's my Star Wars story:
8th grade, Im in the school library before class starts and Im looking at a magazine and in a small section about upcoming movies there is a small picture of R2D2, it's that rather famous image of him under the rock overhang on Tatooine, and the caption under the picture said, "Coming in the Spring, Star Wars. A movie about intergalactic battles in space."
I had no idea what the droid was, I had never seen sci-fi props that looked like that before and there was nothing next to it to give it scale, so I figured it was a small one man tank or something or some kind of vehicle.
Then fast forward several months and the first commercial for it pops up on TV one afternoon and Im like, "Ooh! It's that movie I read about. Cool!"
My older sister got to see it first on a date. She couldnt shut up about it the next day. She said the theater was empty but, "..you gotta see this movie! The robots are so funny!"
I thought funny robots sounded stupid but I'd give it a chance.
Went with a couple of friends to see it that Saturday and it was packed! The only seats left were in the very front row. So, my very first time seeing that star destroyer flying overhead was quite draw dropping.
      The rest is history.

Aria, I loved how you enjoyed the humor in this movie. C-3PO & R2-D2 are a great funny duo, then of course there is Han Solo. "We're all fine, now, thank you. How are you?" Great stuff.
I grew up watching this movie. I was three years old when this movie came out and was fortunate to see it in a movie theatre. Although, my parent had to take me several times to see it, because I kept falling asleep, lol.
I wish that I had commented on this reaction when I first watched it. Sorry for the delay.

OMG, It is so refreshing to see someone watching these who has never seen them and only has a vague understanding of what is going on in them.
Its like me going back to 1977 when I was 13 and seeing it in the theater for the first time again with my friend who didn't want to watch it, and who is now a bigger Star Wars nut than I ever became.
I am a Generalist. Really more of a Trekie I built every Star Trek ship, and watched every Star Trek episode that was made for the original series and animated series, bought the technical manual, and the Making of Star Trek by the age of 11.
When Star Wars came out I got hooked on that also but I felt like a married man who was cheating on his wife.
I was a Sci Fi nut and a nerd at school, and believe me back then Nerds were not cool or in style at all, so I was a closet nerd. I had to keep my space ship models, and comments about Star Trek, Star Wars, Logans Run, Planet of the Apes, ect in check. I started lifting weights and took Judo and Tae Kwan Do classes so the other school kids wouldn't suspect the Sci FI part of me.
Star Wars started a change in the society. Everyone liked it even if it wasn't just the sci fi part that they couldn't relate to.
My friend, well she went Star Wars crazy. bought all the figures, bought the novel. started getting the unofficial comic books. The only and kind of biggest thing back then is that Trek had 80 times more content at the time. Star Wars was one movie until the second one came out 3 years later, and then 2+ for the last one, so yea, then you had to wait for years to find out what was going to happen.
Anyway, I hope you love these stories and movies, and you are so lucky that you don't have to wait years in-between, and you have a shitload of content that you can access now.
You have taken your first step into a larger universe.

4:55 The skeleton is from a krayt dragon, an apex predator native to that planet.
6:30 If you like the movies and want to see more Star Wars content, the TV shows are pretty good. There’s books as well, which vary in quality (depending on the writer) from merely decent to absolutely perfect.
6:50 The creatures the Tusken Raiders ride on are called banthas. The bantha that’s on camera in this movie was an Asian elephant covered up with a costume.
11:10 I haven’t ever seen anyone stop to reload in a Star Wars movie, but in the video games you need to. Blasters use charged tibanna gas (a fictitious element created for Star Wars) in power packs for ammunition. Since I’m a bit late and you’ve already seen The Empire Strikes Back, Cloud City was a tibanna gas mining facility.
19:30 You’re correct that there are similarities between Star Wars and Dune. Along with Westerns, Kurosawa films and Saturday matinee serials, Frank Herbert’s novel Dune was one of the inspirations for Star Wars.

Welcome to the Star Wars universe. Lovely comentary.
Release order is best IMO. This was labeled episode 4 after the prequels were made in the 1990s.
When I watched it in 1977 it was just called Star Wars.
"These soldiers are the worst" yes, yes they are. Our theory in 1977 was that the Stormtroopers were poorly trained conscripts who are not particularly enthusiastic about their job.

  • @TwistedSisterHaratiofales

So when Knobi disappears at the time of his physical death it leads everyone to believe that it was a Jedi Force trick and you don't know if he really died or not. Then everyone thinks that all jedi disappear when they die. The truth is that only a very few Jedi are absorbed into the force (without revealing spoilers). It is very rare, and only happened a miniscule amount of times. There was no way that George Lucas could have made this fact relevant without exposition or showing fore content that would have ruined the movie with the banter.
So like a lot of these movies we had to wait years to learn about what the disappearing act thing was about, and how significant it was.

Star Wars is my favorite film. So much there, despite how simple and accessible it appears.
And yes, as has been said in comments, Frank Herbert's Dune and Star Wars share a lot of "similarities".
Dune is one of my favorite books and series (alongside Neuromancer series and The Culture series). Dune has strongly influenced a lot.
"I was like halfway through the second book, but..."
I did the same thing. I think most who try book 2 hit that same wall. The great Dune book vibe just drops off a cliff in that 2nd book. Fortunately, years later, I ended up finding and watching "Children of Dune" the mini-series. So awesome. It covers book 2-3. It saved my Dune vibe. Then I had the vibe back, and just picked up again on book 4, and then finished the series with 5-6.

Watching the "Star Wars" movies in release order is what we had to do, starting in 1977.;) 4:52 A Krayt Dragon skeleton. 5:02 Jawas collecting scrap. 5:16 You are watching the George Lucre edition, with DFX not seen in 1977. 7:17 The Jedi Light Saber, amazing audiences for decades. 7:30 Dark Side Choke. 7:53 Jedi Mind Trick. 8:38 Jabba the Hutt didn't show up until "Return of the Jedi" (1983) in the original trilogy. 12:29 The Jedi consider Death to be a quaint concept. 13:20 Now for some World War II-level space combat. 14:58 Did you notice that Chewbacca DIDN'T get a medal?

Dune has been a movie since 1984. David Lynch adapted it for film almost 40 years ago. It's very strange and hard to follow, especially if you haven't read the book.
When the movie was in theaters when you got a ticket to see the movie, you also got this handout, Not sure how you were meant to read it in a dark theater.

Yes, Obi-Wan Kenobi was killed by Darth Vader during their lightsaber duel in this film. Although this is explained much later, Kenobi went on to become a 'Force ghost', a benevolent spirit who becomes one with the Living Force but is also capable of making appearances in the land of the living.
And yes, Star Wars was partially inspired by Dune. Not just the empire, a desert planet, and the mental powers but also offhanded references to spice etc.

For those who care, the best recommended watching order is :
Find the ORIGINAL theatrical releases of the Original Trilogy (OT) from 1977, 1980, 1983.
The importance of this if for a couple of reasons :
    1. See them as all SW fans did back in the day and get a feel for the vision of the time and the level of special effects of that era, and to experience this part of the saga in the same way.
    2. Watching Episode 4 (original or 1997 Special Editions) AFTER the prequels (Episodes 1,2,3) will ruin reveals and cause confusions within the prequel trilogy - things of significance will go completely missed. The OT sets up many questions that get answered in the prequels, and seeing the prequels will - what is it the kids are always crying about... oh right - cause SPOILERS.
    3. Seeing the OT also allows for appreciating the changes made in the 1997 SE films. The SE films will provide that seamless bridge between the prequels and the sequels, so you can have the benefit of seeing all the "Episodes" in chronological order, but without the spoilers.
If you cannot find the OT, then watch the 1997 SE films first, and if you wanna watch them again later to fill the gap between Episodes 3 and 7, that's your call.
After seeing the PREQUELS, watch the "Star Wars Story" films : Solo, and Rogue One - IN THAT ORDER.
Even though they were released the other way around, events in Solo (which include, among other things, how Han net Chewie and how Han won the Millennium Falcon from Lando) happened well before Rogue One, and furthermore (and more importantly), Rogue One ends with a direct transition into the start of Episode 4 (A New Hope). To put ANYTHING between Rogue One and Episode 4 would be ridiculous.
After you've seen the OT, followed by the Prequels, followed by the SW Story films. followed by the 1997 SE of the OT, you are now ready for the SEQUELS.
Many have ragged on these films for their "woke" treatment, but if you can suspend that going in, you may find the films are not that bad after all. Keep in mind, a lot of SW fans are devout purists, and many more are what I call "elitist snobs" when it comes to their precious franchises, who think their opinion trumps all others. Screw them - those people are like movie critics ; they don't know anything but their own bias. So ignore the critics and the pessimists, and even the eternal optimists who praise the sequel trilogy too much, and just see them for yourself and make your own judgments.
    🙂
If you are so inclined to check out the limited series : Obi-Wan Kenobi, (after SW Episode 3 ROTS), The Book Of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian (in that order, after SW Episode 6 ROTJ), I highly recommend them.
The animated stuff is okay but it's rather vast (too many seasons and serials to keep up with and/or get through), and the modelling is a little goofy. 😛

When I was 7 my parents hired a baby sitter for my sister and me and took off on my dad's bike to have a day to themselves.
They were riding around San Francisco with no particular destination in mind, just looking for something interesting to do.
They passed a movie theater with just one title on the marquee "Star Wars." They had never even heard of the film, but the line waiting outside to get in was long, and people were coming out and going to the back of the line.
They had no idea what "Star Wars" was about but if people were coming out of the theater and getting back in line, that was enough for them. They had found their interesting thing, so they parked the bike and got in line. Their first watching of the movie was enhanced my a large amount of marijuana smoke from several of their fellow audience members. It was 1977 after all.
After the movie they did not go straight back into the line. They came straight home, paid off the baby sitter and took my sister and me to the local theater in town. There was a line there too, but we joined it and got our tickets.
I was just stunned right from the start. The big ship flying over shooting, followed by the even larger ship hooked me at once.

A proof that the Force is strong with you, is your decision to watch in the release order - you're wise. This was a fun reaction. I wrote down answers to a lot of your questions but most were answered already in the comments. One I didn't see an answer for is why Vader breaths so loud. You will learn why as the movies go on, but the suit is all that keeps Vader alive. So his breathing is like a respirator. That's why it's so loud and famously so. His breathing has become part of his character.
May I make a technical suggestion? I know, for copy right reasons, you can only publish short clips of the movie. However, you can leave the sound of the movie on during the Times when the clips cut out. That way, even though we can't see where you are in the movie we can hear where you are. Does that make sense? So when you react to something that we can't see, we still know what it was because we could hear it. Many reactors do this without any copyright problems.
I'm also very happy you're watching in release order. Best way for this to prevent important spoilers. Then after 1, 2, and 3, the Rogue One movie will make much more sense because in the timeline it happens just before episode 4.
Anyway, I'm so glad I've found your channel. Your laugh is to die for. Thank you for your channel. Off to see The Empire Strikes Back reaction.

    2. This episode of the saga was released first because Lucas felt it was the easiest one to make and provide an outstanding product with the technology they had at the time.
    3. This movie came out way before CGI was available. The scene with Jabba the Hutt, the large critters outside the cantina and the ones being ridden by the stormtroopers are CGI and was put in later with the 25 years anniversary edition.
    4. The BEST way to watch these are in the order they were released. Keep in mind that we had to wait years between episodes. there wasn't any internet or memes like. "I am your father" as spoilers.
    5. The scene in the detention center where Han Solo ends up saying "how are you" is a goof on Harrison Ford's part. He forgot his lines. 🤣
    6. In an appearance on Johnny Carson when this came Carrie Fisher said the Chewy is a 300-year-old Wookie.
    7. Obi Wan didn't die. He went into the force.
    8. The smirk and shrug Chewy gives Luke after he scares the little black droid is 🤣
    9. Welcome aboard. You're in for a hell of a ride.

Because the version that you're looking is the 1997's special edition with new editing and many shots reshoot with CGI. If you want to look the originals movies try to finf on the net the "despecialized" editions, made and restored by fans. Good luck.

    1. Sir. Alec Guinness/Obi-Wan didn't want the part. Being a Shakespearian actor he thought the entire idea was silly and was beneath him but his wife
talked him into taking the part.
    2. IRL Kenny Baker/R2D2 and Anthony Davis.C3PO didn't get along.
    3. These movies were put out in a certain order because there was limited technology and Lucas used and pushed forward the images needed to make
a quality product. The best way to watch the is in the order they came out. We had to wait years for the next one. There was no internet where we had
access to them whenever we wanted.
    4. No need to go into anything after VI. Disney took over and the quality dropped.
    5. The only CGI was put in for the 25th anniversary package in this film are the critters the stormtroopers were riding at the beginning of the search
for the robots, a couple of the huge critters outside the pub and the scene with Jabba the Hutt. Those were put in later after CGI was available.
Otherwise, everything is what we had in 1977.
    6. Obi-Wan sacrificed himself after he told Vader he would be stronger than ever. He went back into the force. He knows it's Luke's job to take over.
    7. The awkwardness in the detention space is because Ford forgot his lines. It was kept in the movie anyway because it worked.
    8. The next two are the best of the series. Enjoy!

Maybe because I was brought up around religion. But it's got a lot of other things with the actual movie and actors involved that were talked about while they filmed it. U should look it up. Believe there was a documentary or story on it. Funny fack the Vatican does not deny there are exorcist in the church.

"The main character wouldn't die..." - Aria C
Well not true. There are a lot of films where the main character will die. I don't want to spoiler. One hit me personally very hard when Robert de Niro played a Firefighter and died as main character. And of course "The Walking Dead" where main characters dies like flies.
You already mentioned by Aria herself Game of Thrones. There always a loved character will die.
But for me the most dramatic dying of a main character is in "Generation War". Make a reaction to that Trilogy and my Patreaon is safe for your.

Welcome to the Star Wars fandom, Aria! If you are going to watch the Star Wars movies, I highly suggest that you watch them in this order (after this movie):
    Episode V: Empire Strikes Back
    Episode I: The Phantom Menace
Episode II: Attack Of The Clones
Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith
    (Stand Alone) Rogue One
Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi
And from there, watch whatever you want. Honestly, the Sequel Trilogy (and Solo movie) sucks more than the Prequel Trilogy and I refuse to watch reactions to them.
Again, this is just a suggestion. You can take my suggestion or not. However you will greatly appreciate the order that I suggested afterwards. The plot twist in Episode III is more impactful and Episode VI makes a more satisfactory emotional ending, because it is the end of the story. This also solves the prequel paradox by making all these movies just one story. I can't say anything else or I would go into spoilers. Now some other people will suggest the Release Order. I can't stop you from watching that order, but the "because we watch them in that order" is a super weak reason. My "Satisfying Order" serves a narrative purpose and you'll watching all of movies anyway. If I could blank my mind and watch these movies fresh, that's the order I would love to watch them in.

Why do you new age people always suggest mixing up the order to ruin to original experience of accually seeing in in the same order that it was shown. Perhaps you dont understand the reason people watch reaction videos. Hint it is so we can see others react to what we saw. Not to see them questioning and missing all the moment that were big at the time in the theater. You would never ask a person to skip Fellowship of the Ring and go straight to The Two Towers. But you are fully willing to suggest ruining the experience just so someone watches in your favorite re-watch routine.

i second this alternate order from BigGator5. im a child of the 70s, middle-aged now. I used to endorse release order, but i've seen a few reactors do this "machete" order and it opened my mind to a different way of looking at things.
As an older person, i didnt realize that i was gradually getting set in my "old" ways and i'm personally happy I had the humility and open-mindedness to see something old in a new light. I wish I could do the same thing for music.
      Ah well. baby steps.
I work with children for a living and it's a wonder to me that you can present different ways of doing the same thing and a young mind will just say "ok!" adapt, process, and move on.
      Keeps me feeling young.
