why does the enviroment, exploration and combat look good but the interacting scenes character models aswell as animation seems off? The humans look plastic, the original has more realism in that regard
I'm not one to complain or talk about graphics that often, but the Mass Effect 1 face looks better than the Andromeda face.... That's kinda scary considering they're 10 years apart. Bio Ware really needs to get their shit together.
Jake G 2187 It's not Biowares fault, EA made them use the Frostbite engine when they wanted to use Unreal. Frostbite DOES look good, but it's designed for action FPS games with little character interaction, that's why everyone looks like a porcelain doll.
think its the other way around the textures on andromeda are way more detailed but it all gets muddled together because the tone doesn't very enough, environments look way better though
Even if you think original one (And ME2 for that matter) don't look that good, there's some really good graphics mods for them too make them slightly more modern too.
The environments look fantastic but the facial capture & animation are way off the mark! Very lifeless, dead-eyed expressions. It's such a pivotal misstep in a series known for deep characters & choices through dialogue! How BioWare let that slip through is beyond me.
I can't believe the lack of real decisions this game has. Let alone the bad dialogue and animations. It feels that my conversation choices are pretty much all the same no matter what I choose and that's a huge let down..
I was thinking the exact same thing. Environments, especially the lighting, see a big step forward. But the character animations, especially human and human-likes, look like they belong in 1999's Shenmue... which would be impressive... if it was still 1999.
1991 brought us sonic the Hedgehog on Sega. 2001 brought us Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty. In 10 years that was what we called progression. That was the Golden age of gaming. You'd see a new game and go "WOAAAH THIS LOOKS SO REALISTIC" I've not felt that since The Last of Us
Ur just nostalgia blind games have matured and in general games get better with time unless the story writing and characters transcend that like in mass effect
Mass Effect andromeda Is done on the different engine compared to the other 3 games that why you don't notice. Andromeda shines in place where the older ones don't compare.
Thank you EA, for forcing BioWare to work with Frostbite even though they clearly don't click with it, and it's obviously not designed for dialogue-heavy RPG-s. It's a wonder Inquisition turned out well
Mass Effect = Assassin's Creed. Looked great graphics wise at first, but SOMEHOW someway got worse and worse later on. But to Ubisoft's credit, they finally improved with Syndicate. Let's hope EA can do the same.
The Shredder No, I really don't think Ubisoft improved anything with Syndicate other than the fact that they finally stopped shoving online mechanics down our throats. If Unity did not have such a troubled and rushed launch, I believe most would think it was a better game. The mechanics and controls in Syndicate felt like a step back and I was immediately fighting with the controls like prior entries unlike Unity. Syndicate is not what Mass Effect Andromeda's sequel should be looking to. Rather, it should aspire to be more like the Witcher 3. Otherwise, they might as well stop calling it an RPG altogether.
Played the game, There are some walking animations I find odd and some faces like the one in the thumbnail which are lifeless but most of the gifs people have spread are taken out of context. The glitchy stair walking only happens if you repeatedly go back and forth on your joystick(or A and D on a keyboard) while turning your character on an angle on stairs. The game is no where near as bad as all the gifs going around make it seem. Once you get to the Tempest you will start feeling right back home like the Normandy.
more realistic looking things tend to be uglier. That being said, the facial animations are doing no favors. Eyes are open too wide on pretty much all humanoid characters and make them look like they're trying to force themselves awake after having not slept 48 hours. People don't naturally have their eyelids fully open like that. If they just lowered them a little I imagine the improvement would be massive.
"If they just lowered them a little I imagine the improvement would be massive." I guess you could say that lowering the eyelids would have a MASSive EFFECT ;)
There is a disappointing lack of improvement in faces considering the games are 10 years apart. I mean seriously, there are open world games now that have good facial animations too. Witcher 3 is one. Heck, i think even Watch Dogs 2 has better animations.
Comparing a squadmate to an npc it's a bit unfair. The original mass effect smartly used dramatic light to hide some of the limitations. I still hope that the animations get fixed for the sake of the franchise.
"The original used dramatic light to hide some of the limitations" Yea .. and Andromeda goes out of its way to use poor lighting to make its characters look awful.
I'm glad that gameplay of modern games has drastically been improved, not just Mass Effect, over the decade but truly sad when other aspects suffer....
I'm not sure which side IGN is on in doing this comparison but if they were trying to cast this game in a positive light, it may be time to change that lightbulb
They are literally using the same animation tech from 10 years ago. Yeah the graphics may have improved in some places, but they have done nothing to improve the animation quality. How pathetic.
10 years later with nothing to show for... I'm actually glad I didn't get into this franchise after watching this. That's like if GTA 5 still looked like San Andreas😂
Mass effect 2 was free on Uplay awhile ago, so I picked up but I haven't played it yet. Do you think it's worth a play through? I've only heard good things but I have never pulled the trigger.
1. Something new 2. different take 3. being able to kill evil aliens. 4. drive around in a three wheeled vehicle and fail at it. hmmm..... I am going to love this game
I swear to god I see so many people complaining about Andromeda that I'm starting to think that I'm looking at a different game then everyone else. The one I see is definitely not the shit lord everyone else seems to see. Then again this is coming from a guy who liked Mass Effect 3 all the way through, so perhaps I'm just one of that minority who likes everything that everyone else hates.
The thing people don't like is that Andromeda has a lot to live up to. In depth/great characters, a kickass story, and just lovable Shepard. Andromeda doesn't really promise these at all
The previous games would've been SO much better if Shepard wasn''t so dull, and he was the main character. Atleast the new guy (and girl) seem happy, as long as it doesn't become sitcom happy.
The Brand & expectation that The Trilogy left was too Grand, ME A was expected to be the "Best" Space syfy Game to date, no game can survive that kind of Hype yet Star Citizen is doing just that, IMO Star Citizen Will be the game we all dreamed of (not saying ME:A bad)
To be honest, I think it's just a case of the original mass effect aging really really well. Even by today's standard it is a decent looking game. Other than a few tweaks and changes you wouldn't really need a massive graphical step up from Andromeda to be adequate really.
I played the 10 hour trial and I'm very much so enjoying the game. Combat is great. Story is fine so far. Multiplayer is still fun. RPG aspect of the game is still awesome. Ton of stuff for people to do. I didn't buy Mass Effect for the facial animations. If I cared about how the facial animations looked, I would have gotten a game that had prerendered cutscenes. Mass Effect has notoriously been known for facial animations and cutscenes that are clunky. Had tons of problems in Mass Effect 2 and 3. I can understand the problems that some people are happy and I'm not too glad about the standards that are being set on games. How companys can release glitchy and broken games and can still make money. But I think people are complaining just to complain. And on top of this, they end up buying the game anyway.
preach they clearly reaching the difference could be seen in graphics. Even the character upgraded facially it's just the emotion and dialogue that sets it back. After a few years off they needed to start again but this time for next gen I guarantee the next will be the recovery juss as Mass effect 2 was
Michael Miles Its a RPG thats character driven. Poor facial animations kill the immersion. If you knew anything about game immersion you wouldn't be fanboying over garbage like Andromeda. I wont buy this garbage. I would rather play ME1, ME2, ME3, or Witcher 3.
Don't sit there and say I don't know anything about Game Immersion, because I do. I just don't let things like that ruin my experience of a game. I buy games to have fun, not to be Immersed in the Universe.
I really cant understand how people can say: Mass Effect 1 looks better, or there is no improvement. I- I I mean? is it the newest hate wave which sais that or are these guys that blind? The only negative things that i noticed are clearly the facial animations and the worldmap.
I'd say anyone who says it looks better is being biased. What's more surprising is the facial animations don't blow ME1 out of the water. It does have a lot to do with the lighting, but why not change the lighting to make the game look better? Scenery-wise, ME:A looks glorious and is a far cry from the original and I hero-worship the original game...
Nearly every face in ME:A has that dead look to it. And honestly the faces don't look better than ME 3, or even ME 2 except in rare cases, like Krogan.
+Spencer Hicks lol no, I just finished playing for about five hours and Andromeda is by far a huge upgrade from the original trilogy. This game is one of the most gorgeous I have ever seen. But I'm also playing at 4K resolution on PC with ultra settings so maybe that's what makes the difference. The consoles can't compete with that.
IGN Guy 1: "Hey do you think we've beaten the dead horse by keep making videos on MEA animations?" IGN Guy 2: "Nah." IGN Guy 1: "Me neither, let's do another one."
Mass effect 2 for ever great grafics characters story battle ,paragon -renegade moments and romances after that Citadel dlc ! I dont know what went wrong but without Shepard this game is just an Alien and Star trek mix
All I took away from this was... "Decade old games don't look that bad." and.. "2017 games don't look as amazing as our 2007 selves thought they would."
What I don't understand is why the characters in andromeda don't have any realistics motions. They barely blink, they only move the jaw, and the eyes are buggy with looking around. Didn't they want to make it more close to real life?
what i didnt like of the combat in the first one was that everything was just trying to punch you, the enemies were always on top you almost all the time instead of shooting from a distance
They made female characters look downright ugly in andromeda compared to the trilogy... there's absolutely no one that looks as attractive as ashley or miranda... and it's not about short hair or skin color... there were kelly chambers with short hair, and brooks maya(not a squad mate, true) with dark skin and both looked better than any female character in andromeda... even jack looked pretty good, though she was nearly bald... apparently the folks at ea/bioware hired extremist feminists who despise good looking females in the media...
The gameplay of the original was actual shit, that is the combat and Mako bits. But the story, characters and punching reporters was so good it made the game amazing.
why does the enviroment, exploration and combat look good but the interacting scenes character models aswell as animation seems off? The humans look plastic, the original has more realism in that regard
spot on
Because the budget went towards the actual important parts of the game.
kittymizfitty Well, the animation of a face isnt even that difficult compared to other things during development
mjn Because It would be a bioware game if everyone wasn't shiny and dolllike
like garrus in ME1?
Honestly, for how old the original mass effect game is, it still looks pretty damn good!
Yup, if you compare to a 2002 game with a 1992 you'll get very different results :)
I'm not one to complain or talk about graphics that often, but the Mass Effect 1 face looks better than the Andromeda face....
That's kinda scary considering they're 10 years apart. Bio Ware really needs to get their shit together.
Jake G 2187 yeah, ME1 looks a lot better, well except overall textures and enviroments.
Jake G 2187 It's not Biowares fault, EA made them use the Frostbite engine when they wanted to use Unreal. Frostbite DOES look good, but it's designed for action FPS games with little character interaction, that's why everyone looks like a porcelain doll.
Go look at BF4 in-game faces. This is 100% not Frostbite's fault.
Jake G 2187 You're kidding right?
Jake G 2187 it's not the same Bioware, huge amounts of staff left during the development of this game.
Hype kills games. Expectations kill games. Micro transactions kills games.
Shitty development kills games.
TheViperOrton45 Breath of the Wild disproves everything you said.
TheViperOrton45
*Looks at Zero Dawn & Breath of the Wild*
TheViperOrton45 Only you can prevent forest fires
And also Witcher 3.
Their budget was 40 Million dollars and that's the best they can do, what did they spend it on?
Edit: Stop commenting.
Jacket the first trailer
Beer and Hookers ?
Jacket cocaine and prostitutes
tbh 40 million is really cheap for todays standards.
ME 3 Cost 40 million, i highly doubt that Andromeda had same budget, if you consider buying new software, licences, inflation.
The Krogan and the Turian looked way better in the original. Bioware you have let me down :/ and not just because of that
I thought the same. Wrex and Garrus had way more detail in their faces. Could have just been bad lighting on the MEA shots.... I guess lol.
think its the other way around the textures on andromeda are way more detailed but it all gets muddled together because the tone doesn't very enough, environments look way better though
We don't speak of the new Asari
Jesus Christ
So either the original has aged really well, or the new game is utter shit lol.
howdy dude both
Even if you think original one (And ME2 for that matter) don't look that good, there's some really good graphics mods for them too make them slightly more modern too.
New game looks fine graphically but these new consoles are a minor upgrade on the previous generation. Save your $
the original has aged terribly and the new game looks fantastic
im pretty sure you know that already
The environments look fantastic but the facial capture & animation are way off the mark! Very lifeless, dead-eyed expressions. It's such a pivotal misstep in a series known for deep characters & choices through dialogue! How BioWare let that slip through is beyond me.
I can't believe the lack of real decisions this game has. Let alone the bad dialogue and animations. It feels that my conversation choices are pretty much all the same no matter what I choose and that's a huge let down..
I was thinking the exact same thing. Environments, especially the lighting, see a big step forward. But the character animations, especially human and human-likes, look like they belong in 1999's Shenmue... which would be impressive... if it was still 1999.
the writing and characters are awful too, so in a way is better to know at first sight, that the game is garbage
They're too busy with their socio political agendas they forgot the one thing that matters, the only fxxkin thing that matters: a GOOD PRODUCT.
Aaron Tyeryar you clearly have not watched the video play before you judge dang your just going on the hate train for no good reason
All ME1 needs is a texture pack and 4k support and it would probably look just as good if not better than MEA.
PonzooonTheGreat There's a 4k unofficial texture pack available on Nexus Mods
Yeah, I remember having a texture pack for ME3 but it wouldn't work with the DLC for some reason.
I'm from the future, a remastered version of the trilogy will be released in 2021.
@@gs8gam1ng80 🙃
What about the animations or physics
1991 brought us sonic the Hedgehog on Sega. 2001 brought us Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty. In 10 years that was what we called progression.
That was the Golden age of gaming. You'd see a new game and go "WOAAAH THIS LOOKS SO REALISTIC"
I've not felt that since The Last of Us
Ur just nostalgia blind games have matured and in general games get better with time unless the story writing and characters transcend that like in mass effect
Even though the dark lighting was likely used to cover up low-res polygons, I think it added a lot to the ME atmosphere
As someone who hasn't played this game, in the thumbnail, it took me a while to realize which was the new one... That improvement is awful.
PERsecond hackz Same
PERsecond hackz same here
Dixie Normas Zelda is trash yesssss
Mass Effect andromeda Is done on the different engine compared to the other 3 games that why you don't notice. Andromeda shines in place where the older ones don't compare.
if u have time play the ME series. you wont regret it.
I think I might just go play the original series again instead of buying andromeda at this point
Adam Thompson Because there is more to them then just the ending of the last game in the trilogy?
Film Ambassadors Also the updated ending makes it decent.
Anyone a bigger fan of the original gameplay?
hell yeah.
I would have much preferred a remake of the original trilogy over Andromeda in all honesty
I agree with the zombie.
*King of the North
Jon Snow IDK. They might ruin the animations still. And just look at the Ezio collection to see how a remaster looked worse than the original.
Jon Snow you know nothing
That was a remaster.
Why....does the original....look....better in many spots.....
It doesnt, your just jumping on the hate train like everyone.
But i guess everyone wants to fit in
Dude, the faces are near inexcusable. and many effect changes are simply up for opinion. Andromeda has *major* issues.
go see a doctor and check if u were blinded or not u hater
I was shocked too. Some of the faces are significantly worse in andromeda which seems impossible...Still want to grab it but damn...
Im not saying it doesnt have issues but me 1 in no way looks better then the original. Its a trend saying its bad, everyone just follows suit.
we should have got an HD remaster of the original trilogy instead.
It's happening
Wish granted
Bioware crew must've leapt through the wrong side of the mass relay
Oh my god, i been waiting for this game and it looks like a downgrade from the previous series
Thank you EA, for forcing BioWare to work with Frostbite even though they clearly don't click with it, and it's obviously not designed for dialogue-heavy RPG-s. It's a wonder Inquisition turned out well
Andromeda looks like an MMO version of Mass Effect.
That's what I've been saying since I started playing it! The whole time I've been thinking "this looks like a failed MMO..."
The original looks straight up better than Andromeda
I just have a very hard time playing as Ryder. I feel that from 07 to 12 that I really got to know Shepard and his crew. I miss them in Andromeda.
Why krogans and turians looks so pale ?
in 10 years what have they done?
Rhys Brunt 10 years? Wtf are you talking about
chill racks have you actually watched the video? it's comparing original mass effect (2007) with andromeda (2017)
And they had 5 years to develop this piece of shit.
It literally got worse.
How the hell did this happen?
Mass Effect = Assassin's Creed. Looked great graphics wise at first, but SOMEHOW someway got worse and worse later on. But to Ubisoft's credit, they finally improved with Syndicate. Let's hope EA can do the same.
The Shredder No, I really don't think Ubisoft improved anything with Syndicate other than the fact that they finally stopped shoving online mechanics down our throats. bioware*
I heard that's exactly what they are trying to do with AC Empire.Be more like Witcher 3.
unity has better graphics than syndicate... and anyway syndicate is
the worst AC by far
Unity DOES NOT have better graphics than Syndicate, They're either equal or Syndicate is slightly better....
The story in ME1 was epic and your main character felt like a badass. Not some whiny daddy's boy/girl.
Ten years and this is what we have to show for it?
Everything but the character looks/animations have improved.
Aurkus23 Not the looks, they actually look way better. Its just the facial animations
fixer10091994 Lol no. The characters in this game got way uglier than in the trilogy.
more realistic looking things tend to be uglier.
"If they just lowered them a little I imagine the improvement would be massive."
I guess you could say that lowering the eyelids would have a MASSive EFFECT ;)
Yeah? Did you play it? How's is the writing? Characters and story? The only thing that looks improved in this game is the combat
Everything but the facial animations looks good in the new Mass Effect
There is a disappointing lack of improvement in faces considering the games are 10 years apart. I mean seriously, there are open world games now that have good facial animations too. Witcher 3 is one. Heck, i think even Watch Dogs 2 has better animations.
Lets just sit back and hope Bioware will improve from this. That's all we can do after all.....just hope.....
The evolution though... Who's hyped for the new Mass Effect...
Charlotte Flair You're missing the point, Mass Effect Andromeda in comparison is bad.
Berg Electron Ik the graphics are terrible, I'm hyped for the new story though...
PS4? Hell yeah
Charlotte Flair WOOW
Lol I'm hype still but Andromeda looks horrible. I'm still hyped for game play and story.
Wtf did they do to the Turians lol
The original trilogy was great... perhaps were looking at a Star Wars moment here.. lol..
Did anyone else get a little confused about which was 2007 and which was 2017?
Comparing a squadmate to an npc it's a bit unfair. The original mass effect smartly used dramatic light to hide some of the limitations. I still hope that the animations get fixed for the sake of the franchise.
Quetzall This one should have smartly done the same 🐸🍵
Quetzall lol sook there that lazy they cant do it
Quetzall But your squadmates look just as bad.
not when there's a 10 year gap
"The original used dramatic light to hide some of the limitations"
Yea .. and Andromeda goes out of its way to use poor lighting to make its characters look awful.
So what I got from this is the past is better than the present
I'm actually amazed at how bad this game looks considering it's a AAA title in 2017
Should have used PC mass effect 1 footage it looks fantastic even now
Even TES Oblivion characters look better
basshead Because Oblivion released a year and a half before ME1.
I got a Mass Effect Andromeda ad before this
The original actually looks better.
I'm glad that gameplay of modern games has drastically been improved, not just Mass Effect, over the decade but truly sad when other aspects suffer....
bioware seem to have lost this mojo. waiting cyberpunk 2077
People hating on it all of a sudden but they're still gonna get it tho.
Bioware should have sticked with Unreal Engine.
Dang, andromeda kinda took a step back with this joint...
Overwatch is better graphics wise and gameplay wise. This is trash.
I'm not sure which side IGN is on in doing this comparison but if they were trying to cast this game in a positive light, it may be time to change that lightbulb
Original faces look better lol
It's almost like graphical fidelity has become gradually superior over the last decade.... Astonishing!
They are literally using the same animation tech from 10 years ago. Yeah the graphics may have improved in some places, but they have done nothing to improve the animation quality. How pathetic.
10 Years has led up to this lmao
10 years later with nothing to show for... I'm actually glad I didn't get into this franchise after watching this. That's like if GTA 5 still looked like San Andreas😂
wtf the had 40 mill?! i think they just used it on drugs and shit
Old Garus looks better than new, and why are all the women so funky looking? Barf!
Mass effect 2 was free on Uplay awhile ago, so I picked up but I haven't played it yet. Do you think it's worth a play through? I've only heard good things but I have never pulled the trigger.
MCGaming play it its awesome!!!!
Best in the trilogy if you ask me!
Mass effect 2 is freaking good
ME2 is a good game. Even 3 is alright after some of the DLCs for the most part(just pretend the ending wasn't completely phoned in).
MCGaming stupid kid, go play Call of duty. ME is not for you.
1. Something new 2. different take 3. being able to kill evil aliens. 4. drive around in a three wheeled vehicle and fail at it. hmmm..... I am going to love this game
meh
Gabriel Aborita I've peaked in life.
now that's not what I was expecting...........
what a difference 10 years makes -_-
all things considering the original has aged fairly well
no significant difference lol, except the faces are weirder now.
If you look very closely you'll see that one game is 10 years newer.
Same here. After 10 hours in the game, the only problem were the animations, however even this problem didn't bother me that much.

lmao i love how IGN was bashing the animations but when it came to gameplay it was like a 6 second clip about how Andromeda was improved.
oh no they didn't! lmao!!
Sadly, they did lol
Erinn Shannon they did my friend I've been waiting on it all day lol
To be honest, I think it's just a case of the original mass effect aging really really well. Even by today's standard it is a decent looking game. Other than a few tweaks and changes you wouldn't really need a massive graphical step up from Andromeda to be adequate really.
mass effect 1 is best..... without cry
Some stuff looks better some stuff doesn't.

The Dankest Ron Paul The Witcher 3 which also has poor facial animation? Get off the Hate Wagon and give a game the chance it deserves.
Don't sit there and say I don't know anything about Game Immersion, because I do. I just don't let things like that ruin my experience of a game. I buy games to have fun, not to be Immersed in the Universe.
u enjoy shit
wow its been 10 years since the first title? time flies. Mass Effect 1 such a classic
Now were just being petty. We get it Andromeda has issues. Thank you IGN.
Jasmine Lopez many issues
Jasmine Lopez many many issues.
Spencer Hicks No more than a Bethesda game
And yet people attack Bethseda all the time, and there is still mods that can fix a lot of the crap.
I feel like the character modeling in me is better than me:a, am i just weird or does anyone else feel this way?
Andromeda is disgusting
butthurt lol
NeptuneP says the weaboo
NeptuneP Got any ice for that burn?
Never bite your finger backwards.
I really cant understand how people can say:
Mass Effect 1 looks better, or there is no improvement.
I- I I mean? is it the newest hate wave which sais that or are these guys that blind?
The only negative things that i noticed are clearly the facial animations and the worldmap.
they wont. The shitty animations will stay LuL
Most probably yeah... :/
It's not just animations, it's awful design choices... just look at female faces... they're downright ugly in andromeda...
Regardless of the facial animation concerns, I am still looking forward to this game.
Anyone who thinks Andromeda doesn't look better is mentally insane.
ShaneD3488 call me insane. This is a downgrade
Not 10 years better though. Its been a decade.
The faces are way better in the first one
Nearly every face in ME:A has that dead look to it. And honestly the faces don't look better than ME 3, or even ME 2 except in rare cases, like Krogan.

IGN Guy 1: "Hey do you think we've beaten the dead horse by keep making videos on MEA animations?"
IGN Guy 2: "Nah."
IGN Guy 1: "Me neither, let's do another one."
first
Hank Hill Nope, you're second.
That first comparison was brutal.
10yrs since the original game and 5 yrs in development and this is the best they could do.
Getting this game for the combat and gameplay rather than the animation/awkward stuff
IMO I think the faces look better in the original but the andromeda environments look better
Am I the only one who thinks original had better facial expression
I have a feeling this is the start of a trilogy
Mass effect 2 for ever great grafics characters story battle ,paragon -renegade moments and romances after that Citadel dlc ! I dont know what went wrong but without Shepard this game is just an Alien and Star trek mix
All I took away from this was... "Decade old games don't look that bad." and.. "2017 games don't look as amazing as our 2007 selves thought they would."
Original characters and stuff like that is much better looking, but environment and effects in Andromeda are gorgeus
Miyamoto: A rushed game is forever bad, but a delayed game is eventually good.
Aaaand that's why Zelda deserves 10/10. -IGN.
They totally fell into the Uncanny valley. Human behavior used to be much more convincing back in 2007.
the animation in Mass Effect 2007 look a lot more alive IMO.
Mass Effect from 2007 actually looks better in a lot of ways not to mention the vastly superior story and characterization. What a disappointment...
