I never understood why Ibuki told Free if he ever saw a lion going after a deer, to shoot without hesitation. But now I get it, Ibuki knew eventually Louis would want out. At the beginning he only saw him as a tool, but he began to grow close to him. Cared for him enough to sacrifice his life as a means for him to get out.
And Free is a lot of things, but he's loyal. And it's clear he respects Ibuki's word, both in intimidation and in sincerity. Cuz him personally, he'd rather eat Louis. But he made a promise and despite it being one he didn't like, he honored it.
Really does go to show how long standing Ibuki's word and actions are.

Louis said it himself, he could not face Legoshi as the head of the black market, and embody literally everything Legoshi suffered to not be. Louise is too damn proud and couldn't bare the humiliation.
You know what? Even if that is true, we make errors and that's but another error Louis had to commit. Shit happens
Just as when I'm trying to know more about Ibuki, I ended seeing a sad truth.

Literally read the manga. It's "short", the animation doesn't do some story beats justice, and you get to see Louis threaten Bill with that same gun
Yeah. Ibuki’s my fave too in Beastar. Until now I can’t get over it. I still listen to the ED song every now and then and imagine them. I wish I have a friend or father like him.
I think a small inconsistency between Louis reaction to meat and real life deer is that real life deer would probably not mind eating meat... All herbivores are just herbivores untill they find baby birds laying around 🤷

Seriously crazy learning that like, 90% of what we are taught are herbivores are actually only facultative herbivores, meaning they will actively go out of their way to scavenge and look for meat. Nature is WILD
Eating a whole steak is bit different from chicken nuggets, especially when it's a regular meal.
typically when ungulates eat meat it’s bc of starvation or a lack of nutrients from the available foliage; it’s not common or preferred for them

Here's something interesting about real life deer.
If they get desperate enough during winter they will eat meat. We just never see it since they do it rarely. Same can be said with many other herbivores. Heck, squirrels eat mice and bugs all the time and are strictly omnivores.
The animal kingdom is something else lol.

:( It's so sad how their friendship ended, but Louis has so much potential rather than being a mob boss. I feel like that's one of the reasons Ibuki told Free to shoot him if he ever tried to kill Louis(who is still a highschooler with a bright future).

In the English dub Free assumed that Ibuki attacked Louis as he might try to leave with the Shishigumi's secrets and leak them
I read somewhere Ibuki didn't really wanted to eat Louis but help him escape from the Shishigumi. By doing so, he'll make the rest of the members think Ibuki ate Louis and only then did Free came to shoot Ibuki for treason. As to why Free didn't shoot Louis for trying to leave, Free was close with Ibuki and probably felt it was the least he could for Ibuki.
I’ve heard somewhere that it was actually some sort of elaborate suicide. He talked about Louis making his life much better, and perhaps couldn’t live without him.
@@MisterJohnDoe I do believe that Ibuki was making an excuse for Louis depart from the shishigumi, because before they went for a ride together, Ibuki tell Louis that he can't just leave the shishigumi for Legoshi and come back
Ibuki pretended that he was going to eat Louis so that Free would shoot him. He never really intended to eat him, he knew Free was following them and he knew if he pretended trying to eat Louis, Free would shoot him because they have made that promise.
When you are on a mafia, you can not just leave and walk away from it like nothing happened. When you enter a mafia group, you are in it for life. Ibuki knew this.
And here I am quoting a comment in the YAOSOBI music video (this one: ruclips.net/video/VyvhvlYvRnc/видео.html) that pretty much sums it up:
"Ibuki basically set up a ploy to frame himself being killed by Free after he “eats” Louis. This way the Lions remaining can frame Louis’s death on predation- keeping pride in the shishigumi on the streets while also making sure Louis can escape the black market without him having to die. Louis can vanish in safety without ever having a trace, free to live a good, happier life that Ibuki could never have. Free is the only lion that would know the truth, and he purposefully let Louis escape knowing Ibuki cared for him- telling Louis in the Manga that he would kill him himself if he ever returned to the Black Market, because that means he basically would have wasted Ibuki’s energy and life."

i cried when reading the manga, i cried when watching the anime and even after a year of not seeing beastars and rewatching this clip, it made my heart break to watch this. It was very clear that Louis had a thing betwene himself and Ibuki but Ibuki cared too much for him and allowed himself to e killed for the sake of the other...
I hate the side ship of Louis and Juno... Shouldve just let Ibuki live or let Louis be with Legosi...

This is easily my favorite part of Beastars. The relationship between the Shishigumi and Louis will never fails to put a smile one my face. All the cats go from considering eating Louis to adoring him/killing for him. I can’t wait to see them again in Season 3!!!

This scene in the manga is terrible sad because Free even say Ibuki died whit a peaceful expression on his face which is rare on the black market meaning he went feeling not regrets as he sacrifice his life as a true lion of the shishigumi so Louis can be free

I think so. I hate it. They should’ve kept his original color, those spots on his cheeks stick out too much.
They had a whole minor character storyline in the comics built around the fact that he was darker and was assumed to be more aggressive for no real reason except colorism. Even if they didn’t have time to go into it, the least they could do was leave it in as an homage to his character.
