Kevin, you are so right…I cried when I saw how low my views were in the beginning, but now 2 years into my channel I have watched the views on my older videos increase exponentially! It is an amazing feeling! Please continue to share with us your awesome channel!! Thank you!!
This is great advice. I have a video that got very few views the first several days, and equally few impressions - so few I considered just deleting it. Then, after a few days, RUclips began giving impressions, and views went up. Since then, even though CTR and watch time are still very weak (I needed to make a better video), it's still getting steady increases in impressions and clicks. RUclips is not giving up on this video! Will this video ever have strong CTR or watch time? Maybe not, but had I deleted the video when I got discouraged after a few days of nothing, there would have been NO benefit. I'm getting a trickle of watch time, and I'm getting lots of information about viewer retention to make better videos moving forward! Whether its a few days or a year, persistence, patience, and a growth mindset will pay off with videos. Thanks for all you do for us Kevin!
Just started and have a about 7 videos up. Even though I had ZERO expectations, I still find myself a little dejected but just going to keep plugging away for myself. Great video!
I posted a new solar air heater diy video and it's a 1/10! I was super authenticly me and it's paying off. I also added a story you wouldn't expect! Storytelling is also KEY
This happened to one of my shorts!! Had a few thousand views for a while.. about 2 weeks later it took off and at 4 weeks later it has almost a million views.
Thank you for this lovely advice. You are right, I am a small channel and i had one of my videos with only about 75 views pick up after almost two years and still going up. So far 42 subscribers from that video. Truly never give up!
You’ve got to be the most pragmatic creator in the “building a channel” niche. I started an early retirement channel and often found myself questioning myself about the quality of the vids I’ve posted. My wife always tells me “leave it alone” as I tinker with them. Based on the look back, both of you are right (as much as I fight it sometimes)😊. Thanks for the down to earth perspective.
Thanks for your constant encouragement for us over 40, actually mid 50's lol. I'm getting ready to upload my first video here in a few days. It's more like a short, but that's me slowly walking in the shallow end before diving in :) Thanks for sharing!
👋New subscriber here, so glad I found your video! The way you said, "How did it happen? I don't know" really resonated with me. My health is a struggle, but I won't quit as long as I can. Sickness won’t stop me. I want to create more videos to inspire others. As long as we have breath, there's hope. It's tough, but one brush stroke at a time, I will keep going❤ Thank you so much🤗
@KevinKolbe Your channel is exactly what I needed, it has a source of encouragement, powerful reminder and filled with amazing advice. Thank you again!
Learning slowly the patterns, it is a continuous improvement process. After every video i say myself last was not good enough to get views and work hard for next instead of blaming any other thing.
Thank you Kevin for doing this video! You are talking to me! My expectations have been low for myself because I started YT with zero knowledge around videos, editing, and YT in general. The growth is oh so slow, I see it as my learning time and being protected from the YT meanies. Time I believe is key, most successful YTers I have seen have had their YT presence for years! There are those exceptions! Thank you again.
You popped up yesterday! I was cleaning out and came across old videos from pandemic and couldn’t get back into my account from then andnit only had one video, and hardly any views, so wanted to just upload because…well, I took time to record it…this will prob. have no views, but this video popped up now…and wanted to say Thank You for being out there and the positivity! If you ever want to barter…I come from journo world too! A lot of journo people now are trying to find a new chapter….glad you found a new one and found success! ;) much gratitude! x
Legit advice! I recently made a mistake and deleted one video and one Short because they had few views after a few weeks. I reuploaded them with changed titles and thumbnails. I hope it won’t affect my progress too much. Anyway, thank you, very educational video! Best regards, Shrinktender
This is why I think RUclips is the best platform for video creators, simple. It’s hard to not feel depressed about minimal views, especially when you’ve put so much effort into a video, but it’s inspiring to know as long as it stays up it has the ability to be (hopefully 😁) enjoyed by others! Great video, thanks for making it!!
I have been really hard on my videos because I love statistics. That means I have deleted and unlisted a lot. I really regret deleting videos! Thanks for a great channel!
I'm 70 and had a channel a couple years ago. Got impatient and frustrated with the lack of growth. I deleted it. 20 days ago I told myself I was going to stop whining and being a nonbeliever. After watching a whole lot of these types of videos, I found 2 channels that were understandable and actually made a lot of sense. After seeing the growth of 72K views on your file saving video, that convinced me that being patient is a necessity and has motivated me. As fate would have it, or not, right after I watched this video I checked my stats and had picked up 2 more subs. My shorts are out performing my longer vids by landslides and I was thinking of just doing shorts. But, I believe I'll keep my longer ones on the table. Thank you so much for sharing your experience.
This is so true. I spent way too much time on a video posted it and 🦗🦗🦗. It stayed up and then low and behold months later it 📈 tookoff. It’s now my most viewed video. Never give up!
This gives me so much hope! Thanks for sharing your experience. ❤ I especially like how honest you were about not knowing how you got here and not changing any settings. 😊
he is not lying. my son put up a video on his RUclips channel, talking about the video game FoamStars. that video didn't do any numbers until 4 months later, and it got him 3K subscribers off of it.
Perfect message and perfect timing on the day I released my very first video on my brand new channel, thanks, in part, to all the over 40 creators - like you - who have been so inspiring and encouraging these past few months. Looking forward to your guest appearance with @Rob the Maritimer next week!
Also, your video drives home this important point: Always do your very best when releasing a film...you never know when it will be the one :) thanks again brother!
This video spoke to me cuz in my Channel I didn't get more than 10 views or less... Sometimes it is sad, but I keep hoping in one day I can achieve the goal to have the correct audience in my Channel... Thanks for your video
This video has given me great motivation to keep at it, thank you. I’ve been in a bit of disappointment with my growth. Thought I put out good content with the right thumbnails etc but got slow numbers.
Hi Kevin - I have several videos that crawled along for months and years. Then they started to pick up views and subs. Now my top earners are evergreen content over two years old. I have a bunch of videos all starting to show signs of the same growth. These correlate with the growth of my channel. So one gets the other to happen. It's just a case of making the best video you can and continuing to publish. Make those small improvements as you go. - Thanks for a great video - Paul
I have a old RUclips account that still gets views. However, the views get better overtime if you continue to post and you have an active account if your account is inactive yes it’s rare if a video goes viral, but it almost never happens if it’s a stagnant account and you do nothing with it. You’ll get views here and there but if you have an active account and you’re actively engaging and you’re posting and uploading videos then yeah one of your videos will definitely go viral overtime .
It's interesting that months after a video is published, it can suddenly start getting views and start accumulation watch hours. I don't have any videos with over 5000 views, but it definitely is a long haul effort with youtube. Great topic. Thank you very much.
Thanks for this video Kolbe. Very interesting to see it took off eventually. I never had that on my channel, but I do have a vide that went well from the start and still does. And when I see that video I fail to see why it is so 'good'. Anyway, I love your channel a lot!
Thank you so much for the insight. I started RUclips at the end of September and am learning as I go, and your advice is greatly appreciated, I really like your demeanor on camera.

I am just starting a kids channel. I may only have few subscribers, I am happy with what i am doing. Uploading meaningful videos to kids sharing ideas to them is already a success for me. This what keeps me going. To all starters out there, dont rush for numbers in subscribers and money, just enjoy the process and continue to influence the viewers in a good way! Somehow someday we will have our spotlight too.Godbless!❤
