    I have, in storage with my father back in N. Ireland, a .22 Webly Patriot. It is an FAC air rifle rated at 32ft/lb.
    It broke 2 stocks, snapped 8 forward mounting screws and shook the crosshairs out of 4 scopes in the first 10 years.
    Absolutely no regrets.
    None whatsoever.
    Still love it.

      High power springers do separate the men from the boys in the scope world. I shudder to think how the cheap chinese rubbish of today will stand up to that kind of punishment.

Purchased it years ago in the late eighties from 10 ring air rifle shop now out of business and still can’t believe it is still accurate and original with no modifications ! It is a sledgehammer at pest game up to 50 yards ! Will never sell it ! Mine still works and looks like new !

      Very agree. An enormous and thoroughly solid construction.

    Had a Brum made Stingray .22,it had snapped at the pistol grip,it was in the £50 quid rfd bin as it was carbine I bought it.
    Couldnt hit a thing on the range felt like the spring had snapped really low recoil.
    Put 2 opposing wood screws in it and it started to perform at 10m,took the stock off to perform spring surgery and it had a gas ram in it.
    Put it ovee the chrono an it was on 11.9 ftlb with jsb heavy 18g 11.6 with 16g and it was as accurate as the ultra I had at the time.
    Beautiful finish,better than the weihrauch and I think the trigger was equal.

      Hi Paul!
      I haven't shot a Vulcan yet but you need to try an Exocet and an Eclipse. The HW77 was an absolute game changer when it came out but the Exocet, Eclipse and the Omega especially where fantastic rifles and on par the HW down range. I'd even argue that the finish is far better on the Webleys.

    I have one and its super accurate , it is violent to fire though and has broken the trigger and the safety in my use, finish is superb, mine is .22 and weighs a ton compared to any other air rifle I've seen, its also massive! the trigger is really controllable and easily adjusted although the use of puter or pot metal for the trigger and safety have let this gun down, other than that and the glued on barrel weight moderator attachment, they are very nice indeed and I don't regret having it.

      There's nothing wrong with the old Patriot. It shoots very very well once you learn not to treat it like a sub 12 rifle. It'll buck a bit if you artillery hold it but with a firm hold it's a fast recoil but you can practically keep the target in view during the recoil cycle.. not bad for a 27ft-lbs springer!!

    Oooooofda, what a hammer. Perhaps it is a great option for a back door pester (to easily handle many critters known for raiding the trash). .25 in a magnum springer seems like a fun option, and I'm looking forward to taking delivery of the .25 fenix 400 I recently ordered. I have a .22 currently that gets 15-16 ft pounds (at 5,000 foot elevation, which I believe knocks off 15%-20% vs sea level). So I am expecting maybe 16-18 ft/lbs in .25 and hopefully a nice, smooth, accurate shooter. I'm glad you mainly stick with the springers, they are definitely not going out of style anytime soon. Cheers

It gave a chromo reading of 20ft/lb but needed lots of TLC to keep it performing at it's best. Brutal cocking and spring kick. After a days shooting you knew about it! Hi Heath!
      That's my thought process, a common "complaint" about the Patriot is that it's too nose heavy and heavy in general. What people miss is that if it were lighter it'd be absolutely awful to shoot due to the recoil. This one is actually pretty tame once you learn to actually grip it a tad. It's a beast but a loveable beast!

    Interesting to know which one-piece scope mount you have there (does it have cross-pins to engage the slots machined on the receiver), and which scope is fitted that stands up to punishing recoil !

    Beeman marketed it as the "Crow Magnum" i bought one in the early 90s...very powerful...about 30 ft pounds.

      Actually the Crow Magnum was the Theoben Eliminator. Beeman marketed the Patriot as the Kodiak

    Its been re blued at some point tnats anfact anwonder what makes this 25 ft lbs as its the same size as the standard sub 12ft lbs so,what makes this that high power spring ? Its nkt just a casemof sticking a fac spring in i still cant see how they get them so high ?

    • @bigdansairguns83
      @bigdansairguns83  Год назад

      Hey bud!
      She hasn't been reblued, Webley have always made beautiful bluing and my Eclipse which is roughly the same vintage is the exact same. It's a shame they don't finish airguns like this any more.
      It's probably a combination of a heavy piston, strong spring and an open transfer port.

    • @notmodeling8070
      @notmodeling8070 Год назад

      Sound about right then for,spring and piston ,i often get asked to over power air riffles,which i never do has have said for years a well,placed shot at 45/50yrds with a sub 12 dt lbs will kill most game any thing bigger than a rabbit even at this range i have no probs with a 97k .22 running at 11.2 ft lbs with a 16gn pellet knocks most things flat i even shot ducks with that 97k at 60 yards with ease im looking at a pcp atm still dont like them tjo but youve about sold me one you tested my brother says am mad not to try one but he shoots a old and new tx200 like it was built for him

    Like yourself, I love springers and this was a really nice one to review. I rather like some of the old tap loaders, but you don't see many like that anymore. I'm realising lately that pcp's are very much dominating the market and virtually every time I see one being used, it's from a rest and the shooter doesn't seem to get anywhere near the experience of firing a springer. They seem boring and expensive to me. I'm being tempted by an HW 57 lately, but I'm a bit put off by the twang. Any thought on those?

    Dan a birmingham patriot in .177 for sale at holts £90. that will probably need it's neck winding in a bit they come up regular at that price, I would not pay more. There was a bloke in the states tunning them to a useable 38 ftp, according to him shot better than standard you would need to suck it to see.There are a couple of vids he put out.

    As you said you would like a 12ft/lb Patriot, they existed and are around, the Omega. I have owned both, but swapped the Patriot for a Theoben Eliminator as the build quality is equal plus the power is easily adjustable to suit conditions .

    Foot/pound not 'feet/pound'. You are getting muzzle velocity confused with kinetic energy. Actually the rifle didn't sound too twangy but these were known to respond well to wee bit of judicious tuning or even gas piston conversion.
