    This album is a MASTER PIECE. Glad you got around to it! This song is probably the softest song on the album, and I absolutely love the dream like/atmospheric/trance state it puts me in as the album just flows from one song to another. If you ever want to look at more from them, I'd really recommend Two Way Mirror or for a heavier gritty song I let It In and It Took Everything.

      I discovered this album while I working in a meat processing plant last year, and I can say this album helped me immensely with getting through the day.
      Also it got me really emotional with the second half of the album which caught me off guard with the aggressive first half

      This is one of my favourite albums ever, but the thing that makes loathe even more exciting to me is that this is just the peak of the iceberg.
      This album (despite not being their most recent) feels like the basis that they will continue to eveolve from.

    What loathe has done in 2-3 years is something some bands can never accomplish in decades. It's hard to think of a metal band that is so boundary pushing and left field thinking us loathe. I mean name another metal band that releases the cold sun, follows it up with ILIIAITE, ILIIAITE (instrument) then a year to the day releases a fucking AMBIENT RECORD. This band is so unique and refreshing #LoatheAsOne 🖤

    • @CriticalReactions
      @CriticalReactions  3 года назад +29

      That fact that it instilled an emotion is certainly a good thing. I've always said that the worst a work of art could be is inoffensive and not making the viewer/listener feel anything. As for the lack of description, I view that as a personal thing. It could just be that you've never felt that way before and don't have any real world experience to tie it to. Like a song could make you sad but if you've never experienced loss of any kind then you wouldn't know what sadness is. We tend to tie our feelings to events that have made us feel that way and can relate that to other's experiences to form an idea of an emotion. This emotion you're feeling could just be very complex and you don't have any real world analogy for it.

    also this song i'm pretty sure is based on a short story which involved a dream-like utopia. voices of glee echoing around the narrator until out of the blue, there is a voice amongst the crowd whom utters "is it really you?" and the voice and question is very jarring and gut-wrenching, like the song. but this song can be interpurated into anything the listener wants it to be.

    You sir are a master of your craft. The way that you decipher and analyze a piece of music, peeling back layer by layer, colorfully bridging abstract notions of theme, tone, mood, lyrical intent etc. with discernible application of music theory/structural analysis is like equal parts catharsis and crack.

    EDIT: Oh! I forgot who I was thinking about so I didn't bring it up, but parts of this REALLY reminded me of Deftones. Big time! Maybe that's why it hits so hard, they do a lot of wall of sound stuff, even if it's not brutal and heavy, it's just... noisy I guess? I don't know how to explain it but hopefully you get what I mean, haha. The same way Neurosis, oldschool Slipknot, and Deftones all achieve it with extremely different sounds.

    Very interesting track. I remember when this album came out because the reviews were extremely mixed, with some thinking it a masterpiece and others thinking it complete garbage. That alone made me interested because such extremely dichotomous reactions tend to mean the work is, if nothing else, interesting; and this is definitely interesting. It's such an odd mix of genres: feels like proggy dream-pop with some "core" elements. Those genres just shouldn't go together, and you mention this yourself: the whole thing is just a fascinating mess. I like your interpretation of the meaning too, and I get that feeling as well. Definitely makes me want to hear the whole album.
