    I wanted to say thank you so much because I have always used Hollister products and until recently had no problems but for the last 6 months I've had nothing but problems with Hollister flanges. I got samples of This product from Colonplast and oh my God it is like a whole different ball game. it's a little more expensive but it lasts longer. and I was having a hard time connecting it but thank you for the tip now I have no problems. thank you you're doing a great service 👍

    I'm so glad that you show us so many products. My husband changed jobs and our new insurance does not cover my supplies. We thought we were going to have to get used to all new products. Luckily he found out that if my doctor writes a prescription for the ones I am using, the insurance has to,cover them. We just have to order them online instead of picking them up in town.

      Jerry Kerns ~ we ran into more snags and I was getting worried. It's crazy to think that an insurance wouldn't want to supply what we need. My husbands company had major lay offs and after almost 20 years, he was one to be laid off. He got a new job, but at half the wages he was making before so there is no way we could afford to,pay for my supplies. Well, I guess if we didn't ever eat again we could lol finally after over a month we got things straightened out and my supplies will be covered again. I hope none of us ever faces a time when we have to go without. I was seriously considering getting this reversed and that was causing me stress because I am 53 years old and all I could think of was being older and having to have that surgery again in my 60s because my Crohns has never been in remission fir the 17 years that I have had it and I would probably end up getting a bag again at some point. I'll just keep,praying that all of us who have to have these bags, never have to struggle to get our supplies. ✌️❤️✌️P.S. sorry to ramble about stuff, it's just all so stressful to think about.

    I tried a base plate and bag to practice. But removing bag totally eluded me. Thanks for videos. Still going to need practicing but I need total independence so I can put used bag in a bag into a bucket. Should add I am paraplegic and in a nursing home with minimal staff. I definitely find this a studier coupling (which I like because it feels more secure). The 'bottom-up' approach seems to be the one Coloplast recommend (although it feels like common sense to me, as doing it that way means it'll 'catch' anything in case the stoma decides to be active while you're putting on the pouch). Another awesome vid as always

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  7 лет назад +1

      +Thaila Skye When I was a new ostomate I snapped the top part together then worked my way down.... Having a bag come off as I was walking ensured that I did it "bottom-up". LOL. But also, with the Mio click that coupling will uncouple if both hands aren't pressing down on both sides.

    I've been using Coloplast for 4 years now. I do like their products. I choose to go with the one piece system because I had too many times when the pouch pulled off even though it was locked. I don't have a great deal of confidence in the 2 piece systems. Not a great feeling when you are grocery shopping and you bump into the cart pulling the pouch off. I stopped here to refresh my knowledge on how to use the two piece since I'm between jobs without insurance and had to fall back to using the 2 piece systems I had in storage to stretch my supply out till I'm insured again.

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  7 лет назад

      Insurance woes really suck! When you had problems with the 2pc detaching, was it on their older systems or the newer Mio's? I've tried my best to separate a locked bag from a wafer and I've ended up tearing it without getting them separated. But it's possible that older systems weren't as secure or there was some other fault in the appliance (i.e. the flange was bent before using it and lost its integrity).
      Have you considered looking at other brands to save money? I've tested some of the newer Securi-T products (Genairex brand) and they did work pretty well for me but are waaaay cheaper than major brand appliances.

    • @mindbreaker2415
      @mindbreaker2415 7 лет назад +1

      Last time I used the 2 piece was 4 years ago so I'm guessing it was the older system. I had times where I just stood up from my desk and caught the top of the appliance on the underside of the desk and yanked it off. I do prefer the one piece since I have a hernia, it stands out less. Unfortunately, until I get insurance again, I will need to switch to the 2 piece since I can use each of they over a longer period of time.

    Thanks for the tip - however we are currently using these as samples, and really like it with having the 2 LTR bag... I will follow these directions but the way you are doing it without being on the skin already is easy, but doing it on the skin is a little different not as easy.

    • @VeganOstomy

      It should be easy when it's on the skin. That's how I'd normally connect a 2pc system. I was only showing it off the skin on video because it was easier that way. If you have trouble snapping the bag to the wafer, wet the flange with a little bit of water and see if that helps. Good luck!

    Is the 40 mm Flange any less secure than the 50 mm Flange. I have a 1 inch stom.

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  2 года назад +1

      Great question. Generally speaking, the larger the wafer, the more secure it can be since there's more surface area to hold onto skin. This is why I find that 1pc systems are better than 2pc systems, as they come in pretty large sizes. However, there is a trade-off with going with a larger wafer: many will find it less comfortable, and it can sometimes overlap your belly button, scars, belly hair, etc. My suggestion would be to find the wafer that's best suited to your stoma size. At 1" (25mm), your stoma would be fine with either size.

    You see how you have your fingers on either side? When it's actually on the body, there's no way to get fingers behind it to snap it. I like the idea of their product, but man I had a very difficult time getting it snapped. Same with ConvoTec.

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  7 лет назад +1

      100% correct. You need to press on the flange to get it to snap, which isn't easy for everyone. It is more difficult than doing it on "floating flange" systems. You can try wetting the flange with water to see if helps to lubricate it.

    • @VeganOstomy

      Do you know which model numbers you ordered? Coloplast lists "baseplate hole size" and "coupling size". You'll want to make sure the coupling size matches the coupling size on the bag. The baseplate hole size is the size of the hole that your stoma goes through. Sounds like the 50mm opening you ordered is the wrong number.

    I can not get the pouch and wafer to line up. I don't know what I am doing wrong. This is regarding the sensura Mio click. I had my colostomy in 4 months ago. I had emergency surgery by the best trauma surgeons in Dallas so I had no time to prepare. Just watching your videos an trying to learn. Maybe I am not ready for a 2 piece. Thank you for all the wonderful videos.

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  4 года назад

      Hi Sandy, the Mio has a locking coupling system. Please check to make sure that the lock is unlocked before lining it up again. They won't snap together if the coupling is in the locked position. Once it's on you can snap it back. Is it easy to line up and snap together when it's off your body or is it still difficult? Also, while rare, it's entirely possible that you have two different sizes between the bag and wafer. Please also check to make sure they are the same size.

    Do both pieces come with click blue or do I have to order a barrier ring separately? Thank you

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  4 месяца назад

      With the two piece, the wafer and bag are usually sold separately. The "click" portion is built into the bag.
      If you decide to use a barrier ring (which is different from a wafer), then those are also purchased separately and not always needed.

  • @naomibergroth2805
    @naomibergroth2805 Год назад

    do you change and put a new back on or do you need to remove both. I'm not sure of design? what's the purpose of the click?

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  Год назад

      The click coupling is just something that Coloplast uses. Some brands have a "Tupperware" style snap to attach the bag to the wafer. Some people prefer the click style because it wont accidently come apart, but most bags shouldnt come off unless you intend for them to. You can change just the bag, but many people change the bag and wafer at the same time. It's a matter of personal preference.

    • @VeganOstomy

      The part you listed #12283 is an adhesive coupling system, not the traditional plastic coupling. Your wafer and bag both need to be compatible with the adhesive coupling system to work right.
      My suggestion would be to give Coloplast a call, as they'd be able to give you the appropriate part numbers to match what you have. You do not use a belt with those adhesive coupling products.
      I personally don't use adhesive 2pc systems because they aren't as easy to put on.

      With the locking ring in the unlocked position, it should click without much effort.

      Yes, there would be a channel on the wafer end that the bag's coupling would go into - press that in starting from the bottom and work your way up. Why do you prefer this bag for stealth belt wear?

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  6 лет назад +1

      +Craig Matteocci I don't necessarily prefer this one over something like the Hollister two piece, but Coloplast two piece systems tend to be easy to rotate. That makes them more suited to using with a support band horizontally.

    Question, In the video it appears as though you have rotated the lock ring so that the blue tab faces out (away from your stomach). They do not come like this and I was wondering if you have a video showing how to flip the ring. Thanks. Maybe also a post on your website with pictures of the before and after the flip.
    Thanks

      Hey Josh, I haven't done anything to the ring lock! What item number are you using? Perhaps there's a difference between skus?

      So when I look at any product in the sensura mio click line they all have the blue facing the flange and not the bag. Take 11472 as an example. Or look at this link to Coloplast even their pics have the blue to the flange. www.coloplast.ca/sensura-mio-click-drainable-en-ca.aspx. Is it possible your supplier is flipping them around?

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  6 лет назад

      Mystery solved! Coloplast has two styles of Mio pouches : wide outlet and narrow outlet. Depending on which one you have, the tab will be reversed. Check out this side-by-side photo: www.veganostomy.ca/sensura-mio-ileostomy-overview/#Locking_Mechanism_on_two-piece_systems

    Is it necessary to position the wafer as shown, with that tab at the top? Or is it okay to flip it so the tab is on the side? My bellybutton is getting in the way... :-)

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  5 месяцев назад

      It's not necessary to keep the locking tab on the top, provided it's not being squished or pressed on by clothing (or it may unlock!).

    • @AriZoney1
      @AriZoney1 5 месяцев назад

      I meant the tab on the edge of the adhesive, so the oval shape of the sticky part would be elongated up and down instead of sideways. I tried it and it seems to be working okay... but now the belt won't work...lol

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  5 месяцев назад +1

      @@AriZoney1Ah, now I know what you mean. Yeah, that'll be a challenge if you need the belt, too. One other tip might be to cut the hole in the back off the wafer offset, so it's positioned away from your bellybutton. You won't have much room to move it, but it might be enough.

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  9 месяцев назад +1

      The drainable version is meant to be emptied without removing the bag. Depending on how you empty it, you could also rinse it out, but be sure not to get the filter wet on the inside of the bag.

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  4 года назад

      @@almazmengistu8400 The Mio shouldn't be a hard material - this one is very soft. Normally, you would peel the backing and when you apply the wafer you'll want to apply pressure and heat (usually from your hands) to get a good stick.

      Eric I have a question about the SenSura Mio 1-piece. It will not stick to my skin no matter what I try. Is there a different pouch that has the same features as the Mio 1-piece but has better adhesive. I want drainable, 1-piece, no filter (if possible) and the smallest pouch. The one I have is the Midi size and it’s perfect. Thanks for your time!

      It certainly is more difficult to get this appliance to snap together when the wafer is on your skin. Other manufacturers like Hollister and ConvaTec offer a “floating flange”, which makes it considerably easier, but that would involve switching to a different appliance.
