Oh, Raid: Shadow Legends, the game that tries so hard to be epic but ends up being as exciting as watching paint dry. I mean, seriously, they market it like it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, but let's be real, it's just another generic fantasy game with nothing original to offer. The only thing more repetitive than the gameplay is their endless barrage of annoying ads. But hey, at least they're consistent in disappointing everyone who falls for their overhyped garbage.
Opera GX was heavily marketed as a way to reduce RAM and CPU use by websites. Chromium browsers are *notorious* for hogging memory. It makes a lot of sense to make a browser built to reduce this issue. What I will never understand is why they immediately turned around and added so many dumb features like etherium wallet integration, *mods (just...fancy extensions?),* and so many gosh darn animations and sounds. They want to be the "cool guys" while *also* being performant, which is impossible, and so they end up falling short on both. They most likely spent all their budget on looks with their advertised features added as an afterthought, just so they could grab as much data as possible.
I love the mods but I get your point! I downloaded a few years ago because chrome was absolutely back-clapping my old laptop's ram. Opera solved the problem, however if I were still using my old laptop when the mods update came out, it would probably mess up everything
@@Metalalloy45 honestly for better performance, just...dont run a chromium browser. It's nice that it's open source, but so is most of Firefox, and honestly, it outpaces both chrome and opera.

Geo requests are standard for any program, your IP address is stored in almost any server you visit and cannot give away any exact coordinates, only approximate ZIP code and City, and even that is based on how your ISP shared such data to GeoIP providers. A VPN service generally provides data encryption between you and the VPN, and the VPN and the destination (if HTTPS is used), storing request data is sadly pretty common, but it has nothing to do whether your VPN connection is encrypted or not.
@4:05 I really dislike those who use this argument. Whenever Edge is criticized, they immediately bring up Google, saying, "Yeah, but Google does the same thing." If Opera is mentioned, they also bring up Google. It seems that no matter what the topic is, they always find a way to mention Google.
I think the RAM & CPU limiters only affect the browser itself. Allowing you to run youtube or something in the background without it eating up all you processing power. I don't think its meant to limit other systems usage of the stuff.
I had 100 tabs open on some game’s wiki looking the location of just about every item i missed and using it as a checklist, until the Game refused to run properly because it was paging like hell. Told opera to make do with one gib of RAM and it did, and the Game ran fine. Took a long Time reloading pages then, since it had to reload them from memory, but there is no free RAM after all.
Yes, that is correct. I tried to reduce the RAM & CPU usage before. And you can find lower performance in your GX browser, like you need to reload your tab if you open to many of them, or some video will be slow or glicth of you set it too low.
So massive corporation A gives my info to Massive superpower A instead of massive corporation B gives my info to Massive superpower B. Who could've thought of that !
He said that they had to follow the rules of the EU, which is entirely correct. Norway is part of the European Economic Area and follows the same GDPR privacy rules.
Back when I used Windows (before switching to Linux) I had Opera GX installed for the first month. I eventually found out it still had some programs installed MONTHS after I uninstalled.
Opera, the company is registered in Norway. Norway has some of THE best privacy laws. They could not legally market themselves as Norwegian (some ads show Norway related stuff when coming to privacy) In their legal section, they mentioned they are under GDPR A EU law considering personal data. Due to Opera GX being made in POLAND, and due to OPERA GX being owned by Opera (an umbrella company based out of Norway) in total it is subject to many many privacy and data protection laws. Their legal headquarters is in Norway and as such are legally bound to it and EU law despite being owned by China. Even then, the data they could even get is already available by other sites, so it doesn't really matter because your browser is only 1 in many MANY ways to get your data.
@@nevertheexpert U right its part of EFTA, but Opera is still subject to GDPR, via OPERA GX being made in Poland as well (opera is an umbrella company) so in total its subject to polish, Norwegian, and EU law for data privacy, and other things.
@Buglardons Ok? Still, it doesn't matter time and time again. Companies know not to mess with Scandinavian companies (who historically take these things very seriously), let alone the EU. I don't think anyone is dumb enough to cross them. Look at apple they tried to mess with the EU and loss, and so did Microsoft, Google, and many others. Opera won't be stupid, and neither would their owners.

brave and waterfox are good options, also you can always export your browser's extensions, passwords and bookmarks when moving browsers, it doesn't take as much time as you might think.
Google chrome sells the same data to the US government, not saying you should use opera or anything, i'll forever use chrome anyway but I don't think that "sells your data" defines a browser as bad
People who say shit like this really don't understand how stuff like this hurts people like political dissidents in the long run, but sure it's a good idea to let the CCP own all the web browsers.
If I recall correctly, one of Opera's selling points is that it has an AI where you can give it a question and it'll give you answers. Which, if you think about it, is the exact same thing search engines do. Really implies that they only added an AI to stay trendy imo
Thats putting it way too simplistically, its not like another search engine, its like having an assistant who googles for you, goes thru like 35 reddit pages to find the one right answer, and then gets back to you :P
@@ezoni8438 AI is shit at picking out the correct or even truthful information and sometimes outright chooses to lie. it's more like having a prankster 5 year old with the vocabulary of a grown adult as that assistant
Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge could be equally bad, but I think the points that you are explaining is true. I used to use Opera a lot back in 2006-2008 before jumping to Firefox, then eventually Chrome around 2010, until today. Their Opera Mini was also so popular at compressing web pages so that you can save a lot of data plan in the 2000s. Back then, mobile internet was still slow and expensive. Opera was using their own engine called Presto before moving on to Chromium and their engine was so good when rendering SVG.

Boom
@@_crypt they're still a pretty bad sponsorship.
i got an opera ad when watching this
Opera GX was heavily marketed as a way to reduce RAM and CPU use by websites.

Exactly. Also one of the many reasons why home users don't benefit from a VPN
@@Stettafire Yep.

Opera, the company is registered in Norway. Norway has some of THE best privacy laws. They could not legally market themselves as Norwegian (some ads show Norway related stuff when coming to privacy)
In their legal section, they mentioned they are under GDPR A EU law considering personal data.
Norway is not a member of the EU
@@nevertheexpert U right its part of EFTA, but Opera is still subject to GDPR, via OPERA GX being made in Poland as well (opera is an umbrella company) so in total its subject to polish, Norwegian, and EU law for data privacy, and other things.

If I recall correctly, one of Opera's selling points is that it has an AI where you can give it a question and it'll give you answers. Which, if you think about it, is the exact same thing search engines do. Really implies that they only added an AI to stay trendy imo

Their Opera Mini was also so popular at compressing web pages so that you can save a lot of data plan in the 2000s. Back then, mobile internet was still slow and expensive.
Opera was using their own engine called Presto before moving on to Chromium and their engine was so good when rendering SVG.
