Living here in Austin with Jerry Jeff couldn't have been much better. We lost him this year. Nashville didn't even care.
R. I. P. My Buddy.
Some in Nashville cared, just not the establishment!! RIP JJW! You're one of the best ever! You are missed terribly.
I can see my Daddy singing this when I was a young man, Daddy been gone 21 years, Jerry Jeff I hope you and my Daddy meet up in Heaven, he was a big fan of your music! RIP Jerry Jeff your songs will live on forever!
RIP Jerry Jeff. Mr. Bojangles is one of the best songs ever, and on an unrelated note, Viva Terlingua is one of the best albums ever.

Jerry Jeff Walker 💔💔
One of the times I saw Jerry Jeff, was outside in downtown Waco, TX, at a Margarita Festival. I looked around and noticed something. I tapped my buddy's shoulder, waved my hand at the crowd. I told him: "Look, there's three different generations....all singing the words to Jerry Jeff's songs." It was cool. Enjoyed every time I saw, as everybody does.
Wow, to get to hear Jerry Jeff Walker, who composed it,, and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, who popularized it, sing this song is amazing. Mr Walker wrote an incredibly special song. How a person can take a passing event in his life and crack it open using music so others can experience it with emotions of their own is a proof of real magic in this world. In my youth “Mr. Bojangles” filled me with wistfulness for an old man’s life and a tear for his dog who up and died on him. Now I hear it at the beginnings of my own old age and add a new bittersweet layer of wistfulness for my own life. Thank you, guys.
Your comment is so true and sentimental! Thank you for your reflection of life!
That's a beautiful way to describe it all.
I was 15ish when my friend received the Jerry Jeff record.we nearly wore it out that summer.
This is definitely the greatest song ever written in any music genre
I've seen Jerry Jeff live in Lexington, Va., Annapolis, Md and twice in Austin -- his birthday concert in 2015, and his last one in 2019. What a special artist, performer and man.
This is a wonderful collection of gifted artists. Great to see the man who wrote this beautiful American standard perform it with the band that helped make it famous. God bless you, Jerry Jeff Walker. The world is not the same without you.
This song has always reminded me of my great uncle Charlie . He lived alone with his dog. His wife had passed before I ever new him. He was a character, in the summer he would go up on the mountain and be prospecting Dad would send me up to check on him . That dog was so protective of him. Love the song
RIP Mr Walker. You made Texas proud!!! ❤️🇺🇸
I just believe Jerry Jeff owns this classic, he lived the young life that exposed him to the content and life meanings and others adapted that which he originally created.
Saying goodbye to my old pal, JJ where this video came embedded in his New York Times obituary. I will forever miss being at his shows, having dinner with Susan and JJ and Django! Most of all, I’ll miss his music and poetry!
What great time I've had trying to sing along to this phenomenal song...
I'll sing it in my own way(and warbling vocals...), many more times till I myself following Mr Bojangles who probably is skipping stones at the river with his dog long gone.
Jerry Jeff, CIAO.
🕯️or two for you...
What a beautiful but sad song, reminds me of my poor old dog that passed away near 3 years ago
When I was a senior in high school every weekend we started the party with Jerry Jeff's A Man Must Carry On and Nitty Gritty's Will The Circle Be Unbroken among others. Great memories.
I have loved this song since I was 12, long ago. RIP Jerry Jeff Walker❣️❣️
Wow, what a treat. A few of us knew Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's Bojangles was just a cover. It's good to hear the "real deal" again.
RIP Jerry Jeff.....a great song writer.......and a legend.
RIP Jerry Jeff. You were a really talented man.
dang, nitty gritty dirt band at the ryman with jerry jeff walker and sam bush, memorable
Not to mention Jerry Douglas, the finest dobro player of all time.
APPARANTLY jERRY Jeff has passed.......RIP troubador, singer/songwriter extraordinaire!
Thank you for this song. I will never stop listening to your music! Amazing artist!
This video definitely gave me goosebumps
this is such great American and our kids dont get it
Rest In Peace, Jerry Jeff! And thank you so much for all the great musical memories you left us that will live on forever! May God bless you, kind sir!
There are no gods to bless. That's a fact. They never show up for work and you can count on that too.
That was great...the best of both Walker and the NGDB.
Rest In Peace, Jerry Jeff Walker
Perfect since JJ wrote the song that made the Dirt Band famous
Ever Willie recorded it. JJW is singing all the way to the bank.
Love how Fadden slows the band down when they come in on the 2nd half!
This was such an amazing show.
Rip Jerry Jeff walker
Miss you Jerry Jeff Walker! ❤️
¿ Quién no conoce esta maravillosa versión de Mr Bojangles que enamoró al maestro Dylan. Mi ovación desde aquí a todas las estrellas que acompañan en este 50 aniversario, a la legendaria banda de Orange County, N. G. D. B💖
love love love. american anthem indeed.
Thank you for uploading this, had a chance to see jerry years ago when he came to cambridge folk festival, didnt happen for complicated reasons, enjoyed this, with a tear
As I recall they did this number twice due to a technical issue recording it. Got to hear it TWICE!
R.I.P. Cosmic Cowboy.
Thanks for posting!
Great song. Poor dog
I could only imagine the electricity on that stage that night
R.I.P Mr.Walker what a awesome song
JJWalker still pissing in the wind
I have always wanted to get a group together and spend a week at JJW's Casa Gonzo in Belize.
JJ was actually from upstate New York... but this is still awesome
I know Jerry Jeff a bit. I was with him in Austin on the night his Father died in upstate New York. JJW is an incredible man as well as songwriter and performer.
Back in the day on a visit to NOLA, We went to the NOPD 1st precinct with the intent of seeing the holding tank where JJW got the inspiration for this song. We were sent away. Should have gone back in the day time and sober. Might have been allowed to pay homage.
Some how or other they screwed up in the recording so we got to hear Scamp's performance twice. This was maybe the best concert I've been to, at least I can't think of a better one. I know NGDB started playing about 7:45 and they were still cranking it at 11:30.
it's typical that these guys would not let Jerry Jeff have the lead all the way through.
Great tune !..Sammy Davis Jr.'s Epitath....Gotta see his performance of it, something to behold.
is this the pbs video, or a cam video
dammit! finity.
Actually, he’s a New Yorker!
Born in New York and like so many others, hauled ass the first chance he got. Settled in Texas and spent the next 50 or so years there....More Texan than New Yorker...
damn ! JJW was sober....
There are performers
There are writers
This guy should get off the stage and write some more hit songs
Nashville country has been putting out the sos for years. They didn't recognize John Prine or Jerry Jeff after they passed. They never recognized true song writers and story tellers. Listen to contry now, it is all the same shit. Put on a cowboy hat, add a twang to your voice and that is what it is, no substance at all.
Jerry didn’t sing the song right, sang too fast.
DAD loved this tune but laughed. Vietnam Marine 1968-1969. He also told me progressive hippies suck. I didn't know what that meant at the time. Commies. Be like Tommy Shaw of STYX
