    it stinks that you have to deal with it, BUT what a marvelous view of the condenser stain: main evidence of AC leak. Great vid tutorial; thanks for taking the time in putting it together.

    I was told by the dealer that I needed the evaporator core replaced, but couldn't bring myself to believe it. I go and check the condenser and there's a huge back stain just like this example, thank you so much.

      Let's hope it doesn't have a leaky evaporator. They are at an age where the evaporators can fail. Condenser is a super common failure though as you've found out. Thanks for the comments 👍😁.

      @@Automotive_Solutions yes sir! If it's cool enough outside if will blow cooler in the cabin, which leads to believe the evap core is still working fine. Hoping it just the condenser with that obvious nasty leak.

    it's good to see some one using dry nitrogen to pressure test and not moisture saturated shop compressed air thumbs up. you may like to upgrade your gauges to a new set of SM480V by Fieldpiece. Has a builted in micron gauge to read and track deep vacuum and a high pressure nitrogen pressure decay test feature that reads down to 1/10th of a PSI = 0.0689 bar.

    Now for the questions:
    - what model year is your Prius? I have a 2005, but seems your MFD has some notible differences than mine
    - How did you deduce that your condenser was alone the culprit to no AC function? I saw of the condenser stain but there are plenty of other hoses and leads inside that engine bay.
    - Did any of the CEL /dashboard lights go off to show AC malfunctioning?
    - Are there any other cheaper and readily available resources to test for new condenser replacement integrity if i dont have access to Nitrogen. Can i just plug and air hose up to the condenser outlets to pressurize the system?
    - You quickly introduced the hybrid compressor oil but didnt show how the oil was used. Did you dump a bottle into the compressor? I only saw that you used a portion of the oil to lubricate joints to the in/out compressor spigots.

      This is a 2007 year model.
      I looked over all the other components and saw no sign of staining.
      The air conditioning was still working but not as cold as it should be.
      So no trouble codes relating to air conditioning problems.
      I only use nitrogen to pressure test as it contains no moisture.
      Air is not recommended.
      You could use a refrigerant leak detector to try and sniff for any leaks.
      I pulled the system into a vacuum and used that to suck some oil in through an oil injector tool. (Approx 40ml)

    Great video. Did you change the dryer as well? (To remove moisture from system...?) Is there any trick involved with this. (we havesame Prius with leaking AC and we haven't used it for over a year now but we should fix it soon.).

      The drier is in the tube, built in to the end of the new condenser so yes it gets renewed at same time.

    i just watched your video changing a condenser on a Toyota prius and enjoyed it ps do you use trace gas to help locate refrigerant leaks ? cheers dave

    There is a cut in the radio in the 2005 Prius car which is the treatment for this problem

    Would of been nice if you could of shown how and where to add oil. Looks like I can do this job but I’m not sure what to do about the oil.

      You could add it directly into the condenser before fitting or use an oil injector tool on the low side port like this one... amzn.to/2Uk6wIl

    Great video!! Once the new condenser is in is it possible to just recharge the system with a DIY recharge kit you'd buy at an autoparts store?

      +Steve B Hi Steve, thanks. I only use my professional equipment and experience for recharging to do it properly so would only advise you get someone qualified in your country to do it for you. Good luck.

      Automotive Solutions hi, Toyota have just told me that my condenser is leaking and I need a new condenser. It’s for a T3 prius, model after the one you fixed in the video. Is this something you could quote me a price for ? Thanks Steve

    I have a 2006 Toyota Prius, and I live in Arizona where's the temp can over 110 degrees Fahrenheit. when it reach these temperatures my Prius ac can't keep up is that normal? what temperature should be coming out the vents when the ac is working properly?

      We don't get those temps here in the UK so can't compare. I would think a fully working system should be able to keep you fairly comfortable inside your Prius. It might be an idea to get it checked out.

      The temperature comings out of the middle vents should be around 30 degrees below ambient temperature. According to my Automotive's A/C chapter book.

    Hi My car is toyata prius 2006 2nd gen, i did change the (condenser) myself cud you please let me know how many OUNCE of hybrid compressor oil need to be add in to the system or
    if need to be fully drain the oil , how many ounce need to add , before the rages the system ..thanks

      I added 30ml or 1 ounce. Still working today! The only way you will get the right amount of oil is drain and flush complete system and refill with correct amount of oil.

    Does using penetrating oil 1 sec before removing the screw help?

      If it's stuck it's stuck but when it turns it will be easier with oil on it.

    How did you get the compressor to start in order to recharge the system with oil and refrigerant? I did a condenser change out but my compressor will not start. Thanks.

      James Young - I normally warm my bottle of refrigerant in some hot water then add the oil and gas to the low pressure port only. Dont use the high pressure port. This normally gets enough gas in to then let the compressor (with engine running in maintenance mode, aircon switched on and fan set to full speed) to pull the remaining gas in until you've got the correct quantity in there. There's loads of videos on you tube about charging aircon systems. Remember to use the correct oil. If the compressor wont pull the refrigerant in you have a separate problem. You could take it to someone trained in aircon to regas it too.

    Thanks for the video. Why there is no any liquid running out after you disconnected those two hoses (at 4:27 min)? Is there no any liquid or you just did something before recording the video and not shown? Thank in advance!

      I did recover the refrigerant out of the car beforehand. Most of the oil left behind would have drained down to the lowest part of the pipework/condenser. Hope this helps.

      @@vladv7019 yes, I suggest you get someone qualified to do this and that they are familiar with hybrid vehicles.

    How did you rule out that it was not just a faulty o-ring?

      I'd previously put a sniffer through the grill and it was leaking a few centimetres down from the fitting. Couldn't get any reading on sniffer at 'o' ring connection.

    I'AM LOOKING AT THIS VIDEO AND SAYING TO MY SELF WHY THE HELL DID YOU REMOVE THE BUMPER IN THE FIRST PLACE ?? ALSO THAT DUST JOB YOU DID ON THE RADIATOR WAS VERY POOR YOU SHOULD HAVE REMOVED IT AND POWER WASH IT SEEING THAT THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS ONE FAN AND YOU DID NOT CHANGE THE O RINGS.

      +Chris Thomas if you've done it with the bumper still in place then well done to you. It seemed easier and quicker with it out the way. The radiator was not blocked it just had some dust, leaves, etc on the surface. I did change the o rings, just not included in the edit. Hope this helps.
