- Hi! I'm Tanic Sims 2 but you can call me Tanny and welcome to Part One of the third instalment of the Sims 2 Corruption Chronicles. Join me as we seek the answer to a question as old as time: just how corrupt are the Sims 2 premade neighbourhoods anyway?
Who is buried in Olive Specter's garden? A ton of corrupted sims, that's who. In this video, we head to Strangetown to uncover the extent of corruption in regards to dead ancestral sims. Are all the dead sims in Strangetown that borked? Is Strangetown okay to play, even if you leave them to rest in peace? Does Strangetown deserve its reputation as the most corrupted premade hood in the Sims 2? Spoiler alert: Probably (Definitely).

SOPPY COMMENT INCOMING!! Wow... over 100 subscribers?? WHAT? Where to even begin... I started uploading these videos after months of hesitation and, despite the fact that RUclips is, of course, an extremely popular public platform, I never anticipated that anyone would actually want to watch my content. For me, it was an excuse to infodump about my special interest (TS2) and its oddities. I thought maybe one person would tune in, and I believed that I would be happy just knowing one person could be entertained for half an hour. But knowing over 2000 viewers have heard my voice and over 100 people decided my content wasn't a total waste of their time and even wanted to watch more from me is both terrifying and dizzying. This sort of thing doesn't happen to me. I don't have the fanciest tools or the best editing skills. All of this is very unreal, and the words 'thank you' are not adequate enough to express my gratitude. I want to bake all 100+ of you lovely people cakes or cookies of your choice! Thank you for joining me on this journey. I hope this video - and all subsequent ones, including the second part of this video! - do not disappoint, and was worth the wait.
As always, please report any audio issues to me. I have conductive hearing loss and rely on you guys to pick up any problems that I am unable to hear when editing. I think it should be more consistent at the very least from now on, if that helps even a tiny bit! A kind viewer told me about Audacity to help edit audio in the future and, while it was too late to use it in this video, I am going to start using it to clear any background noise or lower/increase volume where necessary.
For now, though, I need to lie down and regather all my spoons so I have the energy to start working on the second part! If it's not up within the next week, it'll be up in two weeks hopefully. Hope I'll see you all there, too ❤️

I was already planning to pick up The Sims 2 again (since I took a break from it a long time ago) but now I think I'll spend some time and effort trying to prevent corruption before I get too attached to my new Sims. Thank you for making such fun and interesting content! :D

that’s one of my favourite theories! so glad to meet someone who shares it! i also like to imagine olive shaved off some of her victims’ eyebrows. it’s so funny how we’ve taken all the corruption and turned it into storylines haha
@@tanicsims2 Haha Yeah exactly. Ever since i saw how deformed some of their faces are I could not not think about this, also this one might be too hard but seeing some of gender swapped victims I would see that olive might have sexually harassed or tortured some of them as well

@@linorder22 Aggressive behaviours are certainly not out of the table when coming to talk about murderers, so it would be possible for her to take her rage and beat Knut's dead body with blunt objects as a catharsis, and after multiple times, it got so disfigurated she decided to bury it, bc there was nothing else to hit anymore.
Brutal, but i like this theories, it makes her character interestingly dark.

I love how you always make your Sims pose, the way they stare into my soul looping a movement is so creepy and weird and awkward and fits the corruption theme perfectly
hahaha i know it’s silly but i thought it would be amusing to make them all pose. i even tried to match it to their personalities (if they had one...) so more playful sims did moose ears and more serious sims crossed their arms. i just thought it would a) get them all to stay in one place and b) make the fact that they’re extremely borked deceased sims a little less terrifying. still creepy and awkward like you say, but hopefully not so disturbing. it’s so cool how you noticed it 🤣

Unclean Strangetown is like walking through a Minefield, sure you can avoid some of the mines, but sooner or later you[''ll step on ones you didn't even know was there, and then your neighbourhoods gone.

agreed! initially i swore i would only stick to the pc game soundtrack but the ds and psp soundtrack were too perfect... plus both those games are set in strangetown, so i’m allowing it!ts2 console versions’ music is the sims’ soundtrack at its best imo

I've been playing the households for 4th in a unclean Strangetown and it's still standing even though I did dome vbt's (not sim deletion or grave deletion)
did they purposefully match Olive Specter’s appearance to dead corrupted sims?? the fact that Olives victims don’t have eyebrows bc of corruption makes the fact that Olive ALSO doesn’t have any eyebrows SO MUCH weirder
it is weird huh! probably a coincidence. i know it’s not exactly possible in-game but my headcanon is that olive shaved some of her victims’ eyebrows off, but i can’t think of any reason why she would do that (and why she wouldn’t do it to all of them). or maybe she shaved hers off to be like them? who knows. honestly if i could sit down with anyone from maxis who was closely involved with developing ts2 i would be tempted to ask them about this because i’m curious too 🤣

The reason i think these sims have the “dead eyes” is because the eyes before the final release of the sims 2 had a different texture than the final and since they got removed they default to brown and broken
At the time I was playing The Sims 2 I didn't have a clue about all these stories, theories and details. Without a doubt, The Sims 2 has become a legend, the best in the franchise; totally different from The Sims 4 which is just visually beautiful but artificial and empty
truly timeless, right? i remember how groundbreaking it was for the time and even now almost two decades later i still believe, despite all its tangled spaghetti coding and borkage, it was ahead of its time. i have never played ts4 so i don’t want to judge it since that’s not fair, but for me it is lacking that sims...ness. that charm is the whole reason i still play ts2 - as well as ts3 to an extent - and since i struggle to locate it in ts4 i personally just can’t get interested in it. i don’t know if it’s because ea took over or if i’m just biased/blinded by nostalgia however. there’s something missing imo. ts2 felt complete (in terms of gameplay), even with just the base game. -maybe corruption was the secret ingredient all along-

I haven't seen any corruptions/glitches other than the occasional corrupted gossip/thought bubble. I deleted at least three families, deleted lived in lots etc. but I never tried to make Mrs Crumplebottom playable or junk like that.
William oh wow 2008?? that’s dedication! any hoods i had back in 2008 have been lost to time. id love to keep playing a hood for a really long time like that 🥺
i took a look earlier and a lot of it seems pretty standard. hoodchecker should have no problem removing the invalid references and instances of ‘second sim does not exist’ etc. the swafs section is concerning but, like you said, you deleted sims. have you noticed toddlers/children having ltws, aspirations other than grow up, or wants they really shouldn’t be having? or adults with ltws that change without explanation? either way, i think hoodchecker can remove their dangling swafs - if not, you can manually remove them in simpe. but honestly though... you’ve been playing this hood for what? 13 years? either you’re very, very, very lucky to have only witnessed a few symptoms of hood corruption (some players do one vbt whether purposely or accidentally and the hood disappears entirely within a week, for example) or you’ve practiced very good hygiene even after doing some vbts (backups, anti-corruption mods).

@@tanicsims2 It's funny because as a kid I was the total opposite and made a thousand hoods that I never ended up playing or properly developing much, but after they all got wiped and I started off fresh, I was committed to just building one properly. There is very little family progress in the hood, it's still "one generation" because I turn aging off a lot. no adults have turned elder or died, the most progress is one sim being born in-game now being in college. Think I've only had 2 weddings so far. It has been played very on and off too rather than like every day for that long.
I think the most buggy thing that has ever happened to me is one time a mom didn't return from work (her car just never showed up after hours and hours) so I had to move the whole fam to another house to reset her, everything was good from there.
The neighborhood has been moved across three PC's and about 3 entirely separate installs of windows on the third one, and one of the times it was moved into a new install, 2 fams just nearly disappeared with nary an explanation and they weren't in the family bin. One of them had their lot just poofed, the other it was still there but they weren't in it. I eventually recovered both of them safe and sound by having someone who had a relationship with them move them in and from there they moved out, its like they became townies somewhow.
I haven't seen buggy toddler aspirations or changing LTWs as far as I'm aware (I've seen some where toddlers want to see people's ghosts lol, mine just want to play with their parents and the like). I did change the LTW of a few sims who had the wrong career want for their track, IDK if that's a VBT.
I've installed almost no mods yet besides one that allows pregnant sims to where normal clothes and sims to gain skill points on community lots
I imagine that he's like that because Olive had beaten him so bad his brain became severely damaged to the point he age regressed. He eventually died from drowning in his own blood.

You can play this game again via torrent since this installer isn't available in Origin anymore.
@@pinroshan020 The Mr DJ version (Sims 2 Ultimate Collection) is the one I use and it works great. IIRC you don't have to torrent that one, so no risk of your ISP getting salty and/or sending you a nasty letter. Although if you run Windows 10, you're gonna have a bad time (and a TON of crashes) without using CFF Explorer and Data Execution Prevention.
I did try to get it from Origin when the promo was still going on, but they couldn't locate my account after going in circles for nearly an hour. Since the game is nearly 20 years old anyways, and they were giving it out for free some years back, I don't really consider this piracy, personally.
This was super interesting, I love hearing about corrupt Sims, especially the less popular ones. I didn't even know Michael Bachelor had a hidden clone! Or that missing eyebrows are a sign of incomplete character data.

‘Who is buried in olive Specter’s garden? A ton of corrupted sims, that’s who’ made me laugh. I could tell strangetown was corrupt even without knowing what corruption was back then lol I actually resurrected Lyla and brought her back in the grunt house!
Try changing the corrupted dead sims' appearance in the mirror once again. Some people say the glitchiness only appears after changing it the 2nd time
this method worked for creon, willow, and lyla however for luc smith, who apparently should also get the same deformities, changing his appearance more than once only changed his face template and eye colour for me. melissa was kind of disappointing though as i was expecting a lot more lol. i believe i changed her appearance at least three times but i never saw anything the wiki reports. i was losing hope and beginning to think the UC had maybe patched it out until i got to creon, willow, and lyla, since changing their appearance twice/more than twice did work
My headcannon is that Knut Futa reverted mentally to a baby beacause he witnessed such a brutal sight at Olive's place and left this world in even more brutal way.

hahaha it took me a few years too since we don’t have olive garden here, and my only experience of it is through memes. i like to think it was deliberate considering maxis’ penchant for punny names. i’d be more shocked to find out it _wasn’t_ intentional when olive’s garden is home to sims with names such as rigger mortis, hugh thanasia, and earl e./tim lee demise... 🤣

I've been experimenting on this lot. And surely the dead sims on Olives lot are treated very differently when playing with minimal packs and eps compared to the uc. The sims with corrupted data did not randomize every game, they wore a different outfit, but each reset was the same. they had hair when resurrected but then it disappeared. The mirror showed them with random outfits however. I feel like Maxis had attempted adjust them over time but just excentuated their corruption.
Love this video, I've re-watched it like 5 times. I'm also the guy that created and pretty much built the Wiki page about Olive's victims, including adding their photos and going in-game and SimPE to research them individually. It was a pretty fun experience, so it's really satisfying watching someone cover all of it!
Would also love to see you cover Bluewater Village at some point, given that 90% of all the ancestors have no aspiration, personality data, and all register as adult males

About Jessica Ebadi remembering Danielle's death. Maybe she was at olives at the time of the death just olive did not know she saw?
it’s definitely a possibility and could make for a really interesting in-game theory - since she was a maid, maybe she worked for olive and saw more than she should have, so she’s ended up in the graveyard. but at the same time it makes me wonder since there are a few more sims between danielle and jessica according to the timeline yet jessica doesn’t remember their deaths. then again there are a lot of missing and inconsistent memories across all the premade hoods - it’s the least of strangetown’s problems 🤣

When I was a kid and played sims 2 I've never heard about anything like this because I was never interested in the families that already came with the game except for maybe the Goths
Although I distinctively remember getting the glitch where two sims are selected and the one where their wants randomly disappear
Great and interesting video! Really looking forward to new videos about Sims 2 corruption. I remember corrupting my game really heavily by playing around with a lot of different cheats. I was like 8 years old back then and not very good at English since it's not my native language haha. But game corruption always fascinated me and I love that so many youtubers are playing around with that these days.
thank you so much! i think we’ve all been there - discovering boolprop for the first time, trying to add the grim reaper to the household or trying to kill mrs. crumplebottom, not realising how we were all breaking our games lmao. i also remember the days when we didn’t have the information about hood corruption that we have now so we could never work out why our hoods had disappeared when ‘all we did’ was use the deleteallcharacters cheat and sell graves because the ghosts were annoying (especially before nightlife introduced the move grave feature lmao). now after so many years of being the most careful player ever, i’ve suddenly come full circle and i’m playing with things that’ll corrupt hoods - except this time it’s on purpose hahaha. i never thought this would become a genre in its own right. but there’s so much to cover and so much that hasn’t even really been documented (at least, not on video). as long as there’s corruption in this game, i - and i’m sure many others who inspired me to make these videos will too! - will keep talking about it ☺️

In the past I brought back Darlene Dreamer I thought it was weird she didn't have any personality points but I wanted to reunite the Dreamer family. I didn't even know about corruption or anything of the sort. Now hearing about it now I am like "ohhh crap I did that, as well as deleting sims from the sim bin " I don't think the Sims 2 wiki existed back then if it did then I wouldn't have done it.
Now if I ever get the Sims 2 to work on windows 10 I just want to do a little cheat to improve the pleasant twins relationship.
You can delete sims from the bin, it’s a myth that’s been disproven

Commanding sim to teleport with insimenator usually helped for some reason. Maybe the game treats sim as not really there, so teleporting them somewhere on the lot actually helps?

I think the power aspiration sounds like fun. Too bad it was not included in the final version of the game.

Hi, I just wanted to add a correction to 23:33, Knut is perfectly fine and resurrectable in Tarlia's (meetme2theriver) most recent "fixed dead" version of the clean Strangetown, which is the version shown in the screenshot you posted. I've resurrected him tons of times (generally turning him into a townie) in Tarlia's Strangetown and have never ever had problems.

thank you so much! i know that when i want to learn about something, i want to know *EVERYTHING* - all the ins and outs, all the whats and whys and hows. i was worried other people wouldn’t want as much detail as i do but looks like i had nothing to worry about! since these videos are all about investigating every single scrap of corruption/weirdness i can think of in the premade hoods i figured i had no reason _not_ to go as in-depth as possible. it’s like, sure - we’re told the premade hoods come corrupt already, and we might be given a few reasons, but i’ve never been able to find cohesive lists detailing each and every single reason _why_ they’re already corrupt or what happened to them in development that made them that way. so i thought i’d change that!

It seems that the hair used by Melissa Sims is similar to one present in the console versions of Sims 2 & Sims 2 pets.
I've seen so many videos of ts2 corruption but there's always space for one more ♥ !! Funny that brown eyes no eyebrows means Corrupted faces but then you have the Queen Olive that well ...have brown eyes and no eyebrows and it's fine xD she just matches with her victims lol. I love you already! you took your time with every dead sim in the garden ALL of them, currently I have a mild obssession with that sims I have a special place in my heart for them They are cute and so messed up that I justttt can't!!, It's fair that their stories are told, and their corruption being showed xD and kudos for that part of Mary and Glabe I've never heard about them in any video before . I died whit the fact that they're so messed that they are considered objects, 😲 ok I'm done with this neighborhood XDDDDD ((and don't let me start with the curious-smith family tree because my head implodes ))
i’m only tiny, so i hope i can squeeze right in 🥺❤️ at one point when i zoomed in on olive i realised she has no eyebrows either, so i came up with this in-game theory that she shaves some of her victims’ eyebrows off lol. but i *think* she’s fine and her face isn’t corrupted; her eyes move fine, so i think she does just coincidentally have brown eyes and no eyebrows, probably deliberately. it’s hard to tell in this town though since basically every living sim will have something wrong lmao.
l-love... thank you so much 🥺 i figured that, since i was always planning on going as in-depth as possible for these videos, i might as well cover every single one of them, especially since a lot of them don’t get much attention despite being very buggy and because they’re honestly all worthy of recognition. knut futa was the sim who got me into sims 2 corruption a few years back, so i hold a special place in my heart for them as well! it’s so cool to meet someone else who likes them too lol. this is embarrassing but i genuinely came close to crying when i got him working in-game because he just makes me feel so... sad? i just feel so sorry for him. what happened to you knut 💔 similarly, i almost cried for willow, creon, and lyla, but that was mainly out of fear because their faces scared me a lot. the whole time while i was recording their sections i was basically screaming ‘i don’t like it i don’t like it i don’t like it’ to myself jfjfjjfjfjf it’s like... as if a potential serial killer with a cemetery for a garden isn’t creepy enough, maxis went that extra mile and all the dead sims got borked on a disturbing level. scarier than any horror movie ever 🤣
when i saw mary was only unlinked and could be resurrected i knew i had to investigate and i thought the weirdness would stop at her being related to the curious-smith family, despite being two generations above her supposed ‘siblings’. i should know by now that OF COURSE it gets weirder lmao. like, OF COURSE her object data is ‘unknown’ - why wouldn’t it be jfjfjjfjf another secret: i confuse kitty and glabe curious all the time, and i initially accidentally fixed kitty’s object data when i was meant to fix glabe’s, so she’s also ‘unknown’ - that’s why i was able to ‘resurrect’ her only for her to totally bork the lot, because i forgot i was meant to be talking about glabe lol. it’s possible more dead sims have missing object data so i’m going to check other hoods later and see if this is consistent or if it’s just unique to strangetown, which wouldn’t surprise me. it’s just that the sims wiki mentions having to fix glabe and mary specifically so they’re recognised as actual people but i did start to wonder once i realised my mistake if this is common for most ancestral sims.
i’m always up for discussions about corruption! if it isn’t obvious by the way i got a little excited and rambled here lol. and don’t worry, we’ll get onto the mess that is the curious-smith family tree in the next part... 👀

The thing about dead ancestors in Sims 2 without a grave (who usually have no character data): If you take a look at all the Sims 2 neighborhoods as they were released one can notice a progression with how the devs handeld them. In Belladonna Cove, the last neighborhood, you can resurrect dead ancestors that have no grave. So maybe the devs figured something out (i wish someone i could analyze and compare the dead ancestors) on how to handle them without the risk of corrupton. (Why they didn't bother to clean up the messes from earlier i don't know)
you’re right! once the ability to resurrect sims in-game became available, ancestral sims were given in-tact character files with very few exceptions. a lot of the dead sims in bluewater village are buggy, for example, however once you get to freetime’s hood desiderata valley all but one ancestral sim is pretty much fine. this makes sense since freetime introduced a new method of resurrection with the genie, and it even nudges the player to use this feature with the aspir family. by the release of apartment life and belladonna cove, like you said, ancestral sims were actually all treated as... well, sims. i think the main problem regarding the dead in belladonna cove is the graveyard issue buuuut all that’s to come in the future videos 👀 now i’m tempted to do an evolution of ancestral sims and resurrection in ts2, because your comment got me interested in researching and exploring more!!
i do try my hardest to refrain from criticising the devs because while i do love this game a lot, i believe they’ll always love it a thousand times more than i ever will. but it’s reasonable to be frustrated at how easy it is to break the game and hoods you spend so much time on either through normal gameplay, features that should’ve been removed once players reported they were instruments of corruption, or sometimes through no fault of your own, like if you just wanted to play pleasantview as it comes. it’s especially upsetting because ts2 is otherwise a perfect game 💔
@@tanicsims2 While I never got interested in playing for loooong generations and thus I don't know how heartbreaking can be losing months and even years of progress due to corruption, I feel like toying around and breaking the game is part of the charms of the sims 2. That's something you simply can't do in TS3 (and don't let me get started on 4...) How easily the game actually breaks and its weird mechanics -for me at least- actually feeds into its eerie feel, specially Strangetown, I love it!
ScarletDrache hahaha i saw someone say once that they actually liked corruption because it ‘kept (them) on their toes’ and it’s stuck with me. i on the other hand am overly cautious since i get way too attached to these little pixels! i would be devastated if i lost my pleasantview, which is already 9 rounds in, and i panic at the slightest symptom even though i know signs of corruption are kinda like sneezes; sometimes it’s the sign of an illness, and sometimes it’s just a tickle. ironically, though, making these videos has helped me start to relax a lot more. like i said in my first video - there are three constants in life: birth, death, and ts2 corruption. it’s both its biggest foible and greatest charm. sims 3 corruption is interesting but it’s just... not the same. not as terrifying and disturbing 😭 i have never played ts4, but you know how people are often asking for basic content to be included in the game? my request would be ‘bring back corruption in ts4’ fffffff
you could be the most careful player ever (like i would say i am) and ts2 would probably still find a way to break itself. so i guess we should all be more relaxed about it and just kinda accept that it’s inevitable hahaha
…or maybe they just thought people would like to be able to resurrect those sims, since the neighborhood was released long after that ability was introduced

I just started a lepacy save in Strangetown, and just in the 2nd gen (after installing University) everyone already lost all their memories and jobs. Also Ophelia Nigmos parents are invisible in the family tree, and the Curious baby aliens don't have an alien father. Just Strangetown things I guess...
I still have a Strangetown save from around 2008 that spans like 15 generations that strangely still works though, but I remember the Curious lot just randomly disappeared from there for whatever reason (maybe they got wiped out by the aliens...)

Actually the gossip part is true, yesterday I was playing one of my families and out of the blue Gretta the mother of my Sims Enzo and Ezequiel was Gossiping about Kittys Death, and thst got me Weirded out as Hell😐

I tried playing in strangetown.... without a clean hood template....
I had to restart the entire savefile like 5 times before even reaching the next generation because it would just randomly get corrupted VERY FAST :,)
Strangetown is my favourite neighbourhood, but that completely killed my interest in wanting to continue playing sims 2 altogether. Still waiting for my will to play to come back (and it will I've been playing this game since I could walk) but when it will this time I will just use a clean neighbourhood template 😅
i’m so sorry you witnessed the corruption firsthand! it’s so frustrating and devastating, especially since it’s completely not your fault that the hood comes broken already.
when your interest comes back (and i really hope it does! this game is awesome!) i definitely recommend using a clean template as well as making sure you have all the essential anti-corruption mods so you can play as long as possible! strangetown has the best lore ever and it would be a shame to miss out on it ❤️
