@zanderherbst2192 I have a tractor . 🚜 and some land I'm a deer hunter that comes from a family of farmers, still own the land just don't farm it . Well not the scale Zach does. We have a 2 row jd planter that we plant corn and beans with. That's basically the sum total of our equipment.
I don’t live on a farm but I’ve helped out on one. I helped spray fields with weed killer I believe it was and I’ve helped drag stones/rocks off the field, and I’ve helped with cultivating and harvest as in I kinda just rode along. I got to say I loved when we were running grain cart in the John Deere 8360. We cultivated in the Challenger they are both great machines
Cool to get attached to the agricultural advanced machines n visions! I had the very first Cat Challenger 65 ba c k in January 1987 put 497 hrs in it myself had over 164 people take a ride! Drove it down Interstate 5 to Santa Nella to get fuel. It was so much fun. Love your channels your dedication and the ability to pass on what you do and that's showing what it takes to honor the fact God made us Farmers!!! Geti up Go!!! Hay Dude
Zach, excellent job! As a sales representative for a John Deere dealership you are that type of customer that we all would love to have as a customer and it is great to watch your channel! You are a good ambassador for the farming community and a great contribution to RUclips! Referring to the track slippage on the Challenger, we recently had a JD 9400T that was purchased into our dealership for a customer that was looking for a machine to inject manure slurry. My understanding is the JD experienced the same slippage under muddy/heavier application conditions. On a friction drive design under certain conditions I could understand it happening. Keep up the great work, thank you for what you do!
So did I but then I think understanding what is going on with the farms is important . A good investment may be the farm equipment makers or commodities . I will be looking into both this week

Here I am 73 years old, retired, no practical interest in agriculture, but I watch Millennial Farmer avidly, trying hard to benefit from Zach's insights and opinions - as if I had another life coming up and I planned to steward a couple of thousand acres. You go, Zach, I love you and your family and your farm. If anyone would like to read about traditional American farming reality - try the Port Arthur novels by Wendell Berry.
The challenger tribute at the end is another reasons why Im glad I subscribed to the channel......I really like the way you put your videos together, very informative but also entertaining Great Content unlike a lot of RUclips garbage out there. Keep it up👍
For a fair comparison, you'd have to compare the latest model of the John Deere against the Challenger as the new tracked JD's have full cab suspension and they've improved the track system.
I would agree. Unfortunately, Deere hasn't contacted me and AGCO has. This is the comparison we have right now, but yes, a 2018 Deere would be a more fair comparison.
I came across these videos by accident and now I'm hooked. Zach explains farming in such a way that it's not only very interesting but he's entertaining as heck too. I'll never think of a guy on a tractor the same way. Farming just got a whole lot more interesting for me. And he's got a great little family too. God bless Zach thanx for doing the videos.
To bad we don't have $7.00 corn, $15.00 beans, and $12.00 wheat, to keep up with the out of control inflation of equipment prices! I'm running out of options! Great video though!
I think a big reason the tractors and inputs got so expensive was because of $7 corn and $15 beans. It was great at the time but now everyone is taking that extra income away from us.
when I was saying you have the wrong hat on Zach come on then you realized it. love your videos and your sense of humor. A lot of farming videos are always so serious but you make learning about farming fun.
nice breakdown comparison review. I liked the drama at the end, that's what makes your channel special and then there's the knowing of how you're not afraid to go back to prison. always enjoyed the humor here at your channel Zach. oh, did you keep the hat?
It is so nice to see someone who worked long and honest work now have a luxury to drive and test new equipment. I laughed when he nitpicked the heating system since in my tractor IMT 560 (licensed version of MF65) there are two conditions only. You are cold while you try to heat up with a thick and layered clothing from head to tows, and then you can enjoy the heat coming from the engine after hours of ploughing and drop jacket and few layers of clothing. I hope you buy that Challenger model in the future.
For those wondering. Yes, it is possible to become attached to a semi truck or tractor. When you spend an ample amount of time inside its cab, you become an extension of it.
I have always thought that having a mix of different equipment brands can sometimes be a benefit, other times not, but that is just my experience. Glad you were willing and able to weigh all the benefits vs what you already had. That's how it should be done!

Saying "Goodbye" is never easy. I'm sorry for your loss Zack. You have many memories with the yellow girl. But if the Challenger is meant for you and your farm, it'll come back. If you love the Challenger, you had to let ''er go. If it comes back, then you'll know it was meant to be. My sympathies to you and your family. LOL! What a screamin' video. Thanks for sharing this with all of us.
Hi Zach, from the UK here, not a farmer at all, but love your videos, you have a dry sense of humour which is something people from the UK appreciate. Also I lived in MN for 20 years so I'm a Vikes and Twins fan, keep up the good work :-)
As a non farmer I found this very interesting, only someone with lots of seat time in both machines would notice some of these differences, thanks for taking time to make these videos, merry Christmas to you and your family
This is my first YT subscription/post. I had to comment on your really nice video sir. I have been watching your videos for some time now, and re watching them. I farmed back in the old days (70s) when tractors were not so comfortable and technology advanced (computers in a tractor to drive it, who would have ever thought). Any ways in one of your videos you said you would have never thought your videos would generate so many likes and views. The reason you do is because you are friendly and humorous style. You sir are what in the day we all enjoyed. Your family is as apple pie as all can be! I knew you wouldn't buy the challenger. As one John Deere owner its hard to beat a Deere. Thats all we ever owned here in Texas ( well we did have that old IH). I like you sir, I loved that one and only green (owned one of those JD green pick up trucks...lol). Will continue to watch and enjoy you videos. Have a very Merry Christmas and a very happy new year.
The big problem of the Challenger is the Adblue,.Having adblue in a Tractor throttles the Engine so much that when it goes uphill or needs to pull very hard ,it loses much power. Thats one of the big issues tractors these days got(atleast in germany). With the 8360 you got a real good tractor. I dont like John deere much but i have to admit it.
Great video I must say you can make my day better when I can spend a little time at the end of my day watching the video you have spent time editing and getting ready to post. I will miss the challenger but thank you for your input making me think more about the next tractor I will look into.
I’m a uk farmer and we have one of the Fendt tracked tractors...ou Fendt replaced a Deere 8360RT as the horse power in the Fendt was so much higher and we couldn’t afford to run both....I agree they are both good machines....seeing the Deere off was a very sad day.
With all tractors Deere, Farmall , Case, and Massey Ferguson and many other each hold their own unique appeal. and they do one thing in common is that they do field and farm work in a manner that makes them all unique and awesome.. and Zach.. I love your dramatics.. keep up the videos I love them and teaching me something about farmer that I failed to do when I was growing up I will admit I hated living on the farm when I was in grade school as the years I grew to love living in the country, now in my 50s I kinda wish I were younger and able to take over dad's farm back then I am growing to appreciate farm life more and I owe it to your videos.
Brilliant video, well done. Some good memories. Let us honour all those people that build this wonderful machines to feed the world. You're a good man Zach, a very good man.
You can actually modify the sensitivity of each throttle sensitivity in the settings somewhere. So you can have sensitivity 4 accelerate harder/softer and the same with deceleration. The issue is it's just complicated to find it all.... Thanks fendt/challenger 😂
@@farmingboysYT it's a the fendt and challengers are identical - the only difference is the colour and badge, we run both fendt and challengers, so yes they are fendt/challenger...

Hehehehe, I am a big Challenger/Fendt fan, but I pretty much always knew you'd stick with the Deere machines... from the proximity of the Deere dealer vs. the Challenger dealer to the fact that you guys are a "Deere Operation", that is an up hill battle for any new manufacturer to try and fight. Thanks for having such an open mind and doing such an amazing review of a different brand!!
Don't forget that some farmers feel shafted by Deere. So, it's not an absolute that farmers will always stay. It just boils down to the fact that Deere is superior in the product that they offer. They seem to really understand their customer.
My dad was a diesel mechanic for a long time before he passed away in 1994. He used to tell my brothers and I that machinery like tractors, trucks and cars had a soul. You built an emotional connection because of that. He would even say that a piece of machinery had feelings, too. I thought it was weird. But as an adult, I understood the more machines I owned.
How many hours does that challenger have? I can tell you from experience the engines in the challenger and all AGCO for that matter are very tight. They can feel underpowered under 500 hour but after 500 hour the engine loosens up and breaks in entirely it will feel much more powerful low down.
@@MillennialFarmerI believe that tractor has the 9.4 agco engine in it which is built by sisu engines. All of the AGCO engines I've delt with in various machine of the years are extremely tight when they are new and need about 500 hours before they really start to loosen up and make more power.
I've never owned a tractor, nor will I ever need to own one - sadly, I'm not a farmer. BUT, I am a Purdue grad and the gold & black combo on the Challenger just says "I'm the ONE!" Great video, Zack. As always, a video peppered with humor and loaded with good info.....that's reason we all love you, you know. 😜😎❤️️
We have fendts and when set in the most aggressive setting we usually tap the joystick instead of pulling on the joystick. Works really well. In time I'd think you'd love the challenger.
I honestly have no idea why your videos keep popping up in my suggestions, and i'm not that interested in farming. However, I'm staying for the "Are you OK?", "What the heck is that?!", and GMO jokes. The Wayne's World and other movie references are just icing on the cake I was going to eat anyway.
Great video Zach. Good breakdown on the differences between the 2 tractors and good food for thought. The end though buddy!!! That was a little tear jerking there. Lol Watching all your videos and seeing the memory's you have made in that Challenger it was sad to see it go. Awesome harvest by the way and glad ya'll got done. There's still beans here in Ohio that hasn't been touched yet. Super wet fall we have had.
excellent video n a very honest opinion shows how good of character you are n wish there was more people in this world. thanks for the awesome video's hope they keep coming
That was one of the best ones yet, Zach. Your assessment of each of them was terrific. I think there will be many people who will probably use your thoughts when they go to purchase a new horse. I will tell you, I have never been a Deere lover, and just the hydraulic steps and the mud grate would sway my decision which one I'd buy! LOL!! Thanks for the entertainment, that was a fun video!!
North central Iowa farmer here, Love the videos! We have 2 of the CAT Challenger 865C tractors with the wide tracks and love em. Use them for all our spring cultivating, fall ripping, anhydrous, and pull our tile plow with it. The pre-def tractors are a simpler and better Challenger machine I think. We have a 2011 and 2013 model yr.
Why is it so emotional to me when he shows the tractor being hauled off I don’t even watch a lot of videos with the challenger in it but damn I almost shed a tear.
Hello! First of all i want to say that you have a fan more! Maybe i‘m your first italian fan, don‘t know... Today i found your channel and i watched some of the vids. To be honest i began the first vid around 8 o‘clock this evening and while i‘m writing this the clock turned to 27 min past 12 pm. My wife and my newborn son michael (i‘m so proud of...) are in bed for hours and i continue to follow your videos! You are doing a great job! Agriculture needs that!!! I try the same here in south tyrol (thats the nordest part of italy). I wrote some articles for newspapers where i try to give the people a better and honest view in a farmers all days live. The fact that we have here a lot of turism allowed me to show our (family) farm to interested people that are doing holidays in the hotels nearby. Enough words... thanks for what you are doing and please continue doing it! If you are interested in how a small dairy farm in south tyrol works you are invited to give a look at my nephews videos on my channel. 😏 Greetings from good old europe Hope you are able to understand me. Its not easy for me as an italian with german mother language to write such a thing without preparation... 😔 Ps: i‘m a huge usa - fan!!! My cat‘s name is jeff gordon, i drive a jeep, my wife and i both like nascar and i am a huge country music fan!!
A lot of the differences with visibility is due to the DEF systems. We have a John Deere 9370r tractor and they had to move the fuel tanks up. I hate it. There is also more exhaust components. A lot more difficult to hook up compared to our 9230, and I cannot see the tires in relationship to road. The other stupid thing Deere did in those tractors was a solid deck at the door. I track in so much mud and dirt! I can see how the mudscraper deck of the Challenger would be nice. Thanks for the video.
Goodbye Challenger! you will be missed 😥😥😥😥 Mn millennial farmer when I first saw the Challenger I had the same reaction like heeheehee (if spelled correctly) over the fall I have grown to love it to and I hate to see it go I can't imagine how it felt to see it go back to the dealer its like when I lost my fourwheeler about 3 years ago I loved that thing to pieces but I still miss it its like losing a loved one if you think about it. hope you buy it soon! P.S. Have a safe winter!
What a brilliant comparison video, you sure told it like it is with both machines with no bias, just plain facts. Pros and cons of both tractors, well done that man. The one point that stands out to me is the terrible pump whine when the Cat's turning, i don't think i could stand that for long in a small field. Got to be the Deere i think.
Anyone else hope right at the end after the montage, Zack was going to pop back on screen and go “Just Kidding, of course we bought the Challenger! This thing rocks!!” ?? ...no just me?

@@MillennialFarmerI believe that tractor has the 9.4 agco engine in it which is built by sisu engines. All of the AGCO engines I've delt with in various machine of the years are extremely tight when they are new and need about 500 hours before they really start to loosen up and make more power.
Glad you did a nice, fair comparison between the two companies. Great video!!
Becky comes through, she picked that crying piano music hoorayyy
Great compairison on the two tractors. Very detailed and entertaining. BTW... Sorry for your loss. She will be missed.
You should have signed the tractor somewhere so it would raise the value of it.
I think you nailed it on this vid!! Excellent.
Dude that montage at the end was too much, i started crying!
Hahahah. The cap thing tickled me pink🤣🤣
Great vid Zach, don’t hibernate on us this winter. Hope you and family have a merry Christmas.
That ending is hilarious, great job!
If you are willing to watch someone half Zach's age, you may enjoy my farming content as well!
You would be great in victory lane🏁 your hat dance is fierce
excellent video n a very honest opinion shows how good of character you are n wish there was more people in this world. thanks for the awesome video's hope they keep coming
Oh the tears !. You may have a side job future in TV>. "As the Soil Turns" :) Great Job !!
Brings a tear to my eye, a boy and his tractor.
When are we buying seed from the seed girl?
Oh yes.... The seed girl!
Shes more than just a seed girl!
LMAO
Oh Bethany, where art thou?😍😍😍
He should dump his wife for her
That was one of the best ones yet, Zach.
You cried I laughed I know I’m a monster 😂👍 good vid bud
You just got a subscriber! My uncle has a farm in Minnesota too!
DEERE Hat! Hands down.
Challenger needs to work on their hat styling.
This is a tractor of fendt (AGCO)
@@robinp2539 Yeah. I can tell because of the rear tail lights
I’m obsessed with your vids man I wish you the best luck and keep grinding
At challenger the hardest thing to do is saying goodbye Zach😢🚜
Excellent review of 2 quality tractors. Nice touch with having the wife & daughter involved.
I’d consider myself lucky to just drive one of those bad boys for a day 🤤
North central Iowa farmer here, Love the videos!
The Deere has a better “bathroom” in the rear!
Why is it so emotional to me when he shows the tractor being hauled off I don’t even watch a lot of videos with the challenger in it but damn I almost shed a tear.
what's the name of the song in the intro on your video. cool song
Greetz from Germany
Jincheng Zhang - Farmer
Switching your hats got a laugh out! Love your stuff. Keep these videos coming!
It's always good to see a man in touch with his emotions. Saying Goodbye to plastic and steel can be devastating even to the strongest of men.
Greetings from good old europe
Hope you are able to understand me. Its not easy for me as an italian with german mother language to write such a thing without preparation... 😔
Ps: i‘m a huge usa - fan!!!
My cat‘s name is jeff gordon, i drive a jeep, my wife and i both like nascar and i am a huge country music fan!!
Looked like a NASCAR driver switching between hats like that. Lol
I’ve never been emotional about a tractor until tonight...... awesome video!
Such a sad ending lol. too funny.... Glad to know that farmers have such great sense of humor… great comparison videos, thanks.
Switching the hats killed me
Anyone else hope right at the end after the montage, Zack was going to pop back on screen and go “Just Kidding, of course we bought the Challenger! This thing rocks!!” ?? ...no just me?
