    What are you doing for the biological filer? Mechanical filtration only removes the big muck waste. Your benificial bacteria is what keeps your water crystal clear. Once a week is still a lot in my opinion. But then again you do have way too big of a fish load.

      My biological filter come from the aquaponic system

    Thanks so much. Excellent info! I need to improve filtration in my 10k gallon pool/koi pond. I made a sieve before (12"x24"), using screws, etc. but it was too small and overwhelmed by the large flow rate and massive debris. I like your sieve/plant setup. Where do you find the larger SS mesh for the sieve? I only find smaller sizes online. I hope to build a similar setup since I have a need for and room for tons of edible/medicinal plants. Your fish and plants look very happy!

    • @chu0435
      @chu0435  3 года назад

      Thanks Jordan! I also bought them online, it seem you will need the 300 micron sieve. What's the micron size on your old sieve?

    • @jordanweaver5092
      @jordanweaver5092 3 года назад +1

      @@chu0435 I believe it is 200 micron, but because the pond gets so much debris from trees/bamboo, etc. It might be better to use maybe 3 or 4 sizes in a row to help take out larger to smaller. I am using the 5-gallon paint strainers, but they are still letting a lot of very fine particles through, so I need a smaller micron after them to catch the fine stuff. I am probably getting 30-40 lbs. of (wet) solids out per week from the 2 filters. I also need to figure out a better intake system so I can get the submersible pumps out of the water. I couldn't quite figure out your skimmers. I was thinking of making a 3-4' long by 6" PVC tube with 1\8" or smaller mesh to make an pump intake. I am trying to keep it safe for fry since my koi spawn usually yearly around Easter. I don't want to filter out the babies...lol. 😱

    im loving that gravel setup! is your sieve after the pump?

    • @chu0435
      @chu0435  3 года назад

      The pump for the sieve filter is at the deepest part of the pond so it can collect all the solid from the pond then it will go through the aquaponics system then back to the pond

  • @ryantait177
    @ryantait177 7 месяцев назад

    Do you use a normal pump ? to feed your filter?
    Where is your intake?
    Bottom drain? or only skimmers?

    • @chu0435
      @chu0435  7 месяцев назад

      Yeah I only use normal pumps for my system, no bottom drain or skimmer that requires cutting the pond liner

    Great diy sieve! How did you manage to clamp the mesh to the tube? Its difficult! Did you soften the clamp?

    • @chu0435
      @chu0435  3 года назад +1

      Is not hard at all, I used the 1 inch pvc schedule 20 so is a little thinner cut it about 2 inch then cut it vertically then you have a clamp

      @@chu0435 is it important for the sieve to be slanting down? My filter chamber is really narrow. 1ft x 2ft & the water from pump is really strong.

  • @hydroart4611
    @hydroart4611 10 месяцев назад

    So the water to the filter only comes from the skimmer? Is there water from the bottom of the fish pond?

      The only thing I have to do to control the mosquito larvae is to deal the 6 inch guard in the aquaponics bed

      @@chu0435 would like to ask about design and layout. my backyard is 50' wide and 45' long. i would like to have mixture of koi and tilapia (harvest them at end of the year). would it better to have the pond in a rectangle or square. im leaning toward 8x16. deepest section is 4 ft and concrete walls up 2'. hopefully can maintain 5' of water. the reasoning for 8' is to use polycarbonate sheet for cover during winter. i live in north texas and temps can get below freeze.

    • @chu0435
      @chu0435  3 года назад

      I would build the pond as 8x16 cause fish like to have a current flow and 8x16 is easier to make that flow, water pump at on end feed to the waterfall at the other. As for raising Talapia, I try them before but they will always die in the winter when it get too cold, so would raise the koi and Talapia separate. The koi I would raise outside and the Talapia I would at least build a greenhouse and raise them inside maybe they might survive the winter. Good luck
