I feel like a lot of people are jumping to conclusions based on replies to the top comment on this short. Lot of people saying "It was Lil Nas X, it was Lil Nas X, he's so rude and entitled" only for people to get into Swiftie arguments and talk about Harry Styles having a toupee and shit.
I'll gladly own up to being wrong, but I feel like one of the biggest openly queer artists of this new generation - who was outed against his will, got shit on for being "too sexual" in the aftermath of that and Montero's rollout because a bunch of people tried to pigeonhole him as a kid's performer against his will, and who got labelled a Satanist by the conservative media - is less likely to pull a stunt like this.
I could definitely be wrong, I don't have my finger on the music industry's pulse as much as I used to, but I have a lot of misgivings about a single reply giving a nebulous guess and a bunch of comment-section heroes running with it.
It's fucked up that this happened to Orville Peck, and if it was Lil Nas X that's a huge bummer because I clearly have a lot of esteem for the guy. I'm not going to point fingers at who it could be, because I just don't know, and frankly the vanguards of the pop landscape of my youth are reaching the end of their relevancy - so it could be anyone from a whole new wave of popular musicians who did this, on top of any number of people who I do know.
But if you're so certain - beyond a picture of Orville's tangled fringe, unless the Lil Nas X picture is the only picture that exists with the fringe in question - I'm genuinely open to new information. Given the low standards of discourse on any RUclips short, let alone any short with any buttfuck crazy ride-or-die stan groups involved, and given my negative bias to the specific stan bullshit I'm seeing uttered in the same breath as "Lil Nas X unmasked Orville Peck" - I'm having a really fucking hard time believing anyone saying that this is the case.
