    Excellent point about the high/low setting. I will be running mine in high from now on.
    I had no water pressure at all on mine, just the sound of the motor. I hadnt used it in a few months. I tried blowing into the 'fill water port' while running it, and it worked! My guess is that the water pump needed priming in order to work, and had gone dry from no use. Just posting, in case that helps anyone

    Great video!!! This is the exact problem i had with my waterpick pearl flosser. I tried the plastic piece as you suggested but it either was too small or got stuck as I still had reduced pressure. I flattened out the original check valve flap and it seems to be working for the time being. Actually a pretty crappy design. If it fails again I will retry your DIY check valve flap but I will try to be more precise in my fitting.

    I think mine is either a newer or older model. I have one button. Push it once for low, twice for high pressure and a 3rd time to shut if off. Sometimes when I push it once it goes right to high but that doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that sometimes it does not turn on. I can the light on the back dim slightly but still no water. If I charge it it does seem to recover but I never got the blinking light indicator telling me that it needs to be charged.

    • @BudgetPhil
      @BudgetPhil  10 месяцев назад

      I'm not sure what would be causing that. It's possible that some moisture got into the electronics that control the unit. I think I would try removing as many parts as practical and then placing the unit in front of a fan for a couple days or so in a relatively dry environment. 50% humidity or less. I've had similar things happen with other electronics when water infiltrates places it shouldn't be.

    My Cordless Plus is identical to yours and probably 4 years old. I checked the reeds and they look ok. I'm gonna try running exclusively on high as suggested. The electrical slide switch on mine was quite corroded so I cleaned that up and now it starts and stops as it should. My motor still too sluggish. I don't think the yogurt fix will help but have that in reserve. The batteries show 2.7V (labeled 2.4) maybe they're not putting out enough juice?

    • @BudgetPhil
      @BudgetPhil  Год назад

      The battery could be getting weak, hard to say. My water flosser got sluggish a few months ago and I fixed it by cleaning the tip. I couldn't see the blockage in the tip, but it was there. Mineral build up over time caused it. May want to check the tip, if you haven't already, to see if that's causing the sluggishness. Thank you for sharing your experience.

  • @citizenw
    @citizenw Год назад

    Hey BP, looks great but I'm wondering why you didn't put a small hole for water flow in the yogurt lid 6 mm circle. I would pair mine this month and want to know if you felt cutting it smaller and allowing water to go around it rather than through the middle allow sufficient water pressure or in retrospect would you have put a hole in the center? 👍🏼 Thanks, WL

    • @BudgetPhil
      @BudgetPhil  Год назад +1

      That's a good idea. I think a hole drilled in the right spot of that small plastic valve flap could help water flow. I'm not sure if I would cut the piece much bigger though if I did drill a hole because I would want to try to minimize the chance of the valve flap binding inside it's housing. Maybe have some of the water go through the carefully placed hole and some go around flap. I'll definitely remember that for when I need to make another one of these repairs. Thank you for the tip.

    • @citizenw
      @citizenw Год назад

      @@BudgetPhil Np. I mention that because the original part had a gap around the flap that was not just for movement but wide enough for some other purpose, most likely flow.
      I'll place a hole in the center with a heated large paper clip that will be small enough to allow for flow without being large enough to have the piece itself sucked in, which created the obstruction that led to the the blockage and subsequent leak.
      I feel as though the flap itself is to prevent back flow and pressure drop. I'll cut two pieces - one with the hole and one without - in case there is a noticeable pressure change or leak. But I'll assume success and clean it while re-assembling! ;) -w.

    • @BudgetPhil
      @BudgetPhil  Год назад +1

      It's a one-way valve. Also known as a check valve, and part of the pump. Like you mentioned, it prevents backflow while the piston is on the pump stroke. But when the piston is on the intake stroke it allows water to flow forward into the pump cylinder. Any hole placed in the valve flap must be located such that it doesn't align with the orifice that the flap seals against in order for the pump to operate correctly. I think there's enough room on the end of the valve flap opposite the orifice to put a hole. Maybe two.

    • @citizenw
      @citizenw Год назад

      @Budget Phil thank you! Yes, why not two holes. Once time on the inside and have it actually in front of me, I'll be best able to make that determination.
      But your thought brings to mind something else: I'm considering taking the micro tip of my soldering iron and outlining the exact cut that was in the flap from the original part. It's clear they did not have durability in mind when making the original parts, but since yours works as is, and I use mine exclusively on high - so much so that I can't slide to low anymore - I'm most concerned with restricting water pressure.
      Also, since I saw you messing around with the internals controlled by the low/high toggle, perhaps I will correct that as well. But why bother; I'm a high kind of guy. Thanks again. PS... This feels like an episode of Tool Time. Where's Tim and Pam when you need them? 👍🏼 -w.

    • @BudgetPhil
      @BudgetPhil  Год назад

      I use mine on high now exclusively also because the high/low switch operates a valve that restricts the flow to the tip when it's on low, which I believe is harder on the pump as well as those flexible valve flaps that fail so easily. The custom valve flap cut from the yogurt container seems to work as well as the original factory flap. Didn't notice any drop in pressure after making the repair. I bet a variety of different shapes and sizes could work as long as they don't bind in the housing, always seal against the orifice, and allow enough water to pass by them during the pumps intake stroke. I'm pretty sure the flap doesn't even need to be flexible because the one cut from the yogurt container lid isn't very flexible. I doubt it even flexes much if at all during operation, just moves back and forth inside the housing. I probably wouldn't try to copy the factory design because it seems too unreliable to me. Thank you for sharing your experience with the water flosser.

    • @BudgetPhil
      @BudgetPhil  3 года назад +1

      The o-ring in the tank might need a little bit of lubrication. Just wetting the o-ring with some water may be enough. There is also a silicon o-ring lubricant available that can be found in the plumbing department of some hardware stores. If that's not the problem, then I would check to make sure everything is lining up correctly when installing the tank.

    I’m missing the little piece that floats at the bottom of the tube that helps suction the water. I can’t find a replacement piece anywhere and that piece is causing my flosser to not work. Water isn’t being suctioned through the tube. Is there anyway I can make my own or anywhere I can find that small piece?!

    • @BudgetPhil
      @BudgetPhil  2 месяца назад

      I don't think my water flosser uses one of those. If I understand correctly, the part you are referring to may be called a "clunk". Gas powered model airplanes have them on the end of the fuel supply tube in the fuel tank to make sure the end of the tube is always submerged. It acts as a weight. They can be purchased from some hobby stores and many places online. Maybe try searching for "RC Airplane Fuel Tank Clunk" and see if that could work. I'm not sure.

      Silicone faucet grease might work and is available at most hardware stores in a small tube, but I'm not sure if it's food grade. If the pump piston needs lubricated then food grade lubricant would be needed as it could get into the water stream. But the drive cam may not need food grade lubricant if a small amount is used and it doesn't get into the pump cylinder. But I don't know.

      If the nozzle isn't completely engaged into it's socket, then that can happen. My Waterpik gets a buildup of minerals in that socket and sometimes the tip won't want to lock in. A cleaning with white vinegar has fixed that problem for me.

    • @susanmei9980

      @@BudgetPhilThank you. I’m not home at the moment but I don’t think I ever removed the nozzle. And I’ve always used distilled water bc tap water isn’t really safe. So I doubt there would be any buildup of minerals. I will dbl chk the nozzle when I get home.

    • @BudgetPhil

      The distilled water should prevent mineral build up I would think. If the nozzle is securely snapped into its socket and the o-ring that seals it is okay, then I assume the leak may be further inside the unit somewhere. I believe my flosser had a 2 year warranty, until I took it apart.

      @@BudgetPhilWell, I took mine apart. Even tho I use distilled water, my tip made a crunching sound when I reinstalled it. However, I had already started taking it apart. I hade seen a vid on another type of Waterpik, where inside was all moldy! So I decided I needed to investigate, since mine had leaked. Mine was not moldy and looked nearly brand new. I cleaned all the parts anyway, and then soaked them in distilled vinegar.
      When I was taking it apart, even tho I was being careful, a little spring flew out, and I didn’t know where it came out from. It’s abt the size of a spring in a pen. Do you happen to know where it goes? In your first vid, @ 55 seconds, you see that little orange plunger in the pump? Yours fell out too. I put the spring under that, in that white tube, as it seemed the only likely place it cd go.
      However, my eject switch, for the tip, doesn’t spring back when pushed, now; and when I insert the flosser tip, it doesn’t “click” into place. Any idea where that spring goes? The only place I cd see near the tip wd be to put it into the tube where the water comes out and that doesn’t seem sanitary or a good idea, so I doubt it goes there.
      And if I did put it in the correct place, any idea why my eject button doesn’t spring back? Everything is seated properly.
      It also doesn’t turn on now, but the battery may hv died since it’s been a cpl weeks since I tested it. It’s been on the charger for abt an hour now, and I took it off to test it. Still not a sound. I put it back on the charger, thinking maybe an hour isn’t long enough to make a sound. But, I probably need to take it back apart anyway. Thx.

      That happened to me also. There was a build up of minerals inside the socket that the clear plastic nozzle snaps into. I mixed about 2 parts water with 1 part white vinegar and poured a little of this mix in the socket. After it soaked for a few minutes, the minerals loosed and I rinsed it all out. I think I used a spray bottle to squirt down into the socket towards the area where it latches with the nozzle and wash out the loosened minerals. Seems like I had to soak it a couple times but can't remember.
