  • The Nigerian government has to intervene decisively on behalf of the majority of the people by enforcing price control mechanisms that protect citizens from exploitation as envisaged under the Price Control Act.
    This is the view of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, who believes that this is necessary to guarantee that the economy of the country is not concentrated in the hands of a few.
    Falana spoke with Channels Television’s correspondent, Shola Soyele against the background of his recent lawsuit against the federal government over failure to control the rising prices of essential commodities.

    Nigerians........ forget real estate and pursue agriculture. Let's all start a mini family agriculture campaign. Everyone Go to your backyard and plant yam , pepper , tomato,okro, ewuro, Edo, poultry . Everyone do backyard farming at least no matter how small ( if you don't have plot of land) . Everyone plant something , grow something, anything . Let's start with that . If 100 million people can do backyard farming at least ( not as a business ,but for consumption and exchange purposes only) this idea will change a lot in the country .

    This is just one of the disgraceful act by out service men. Police, Army, Road safety, Nepa officials, customs, Petrol station owners and association, market women, vendors, The list is on and on. The truth is we are our own problem. The country is full of greedy Citizens. And we cannot change anything with such attitude. Now we go dey blame the government. Government will put petrol price at 600 naira. ...to increase the price..petrol station will shut down for few day causing scarcity and madness. Then iya loja too go increase price of food commodity blaming it on transportation price. Everything is fixed to rob ourselves. What a Nation

    Price control is implemented everywhere. An example, in the UK where I live, transport cost is controlled by governmentbso that people are not ripped off. TRANSPORT For London (TfL) is In charge of running public transportation including trains buses trams taxi etc.

    • @samchs222
      @samchs222 Год назад

      I bet the government has a stake in the transport companies or at least there are few companies that run the transport. That's different from pure market determining the price.

      My dear, you can't compare what's happening in Nigeria 🇳🇬 with what is happening in the UK or even in other parts of the world. Does the government own the transport in Nigeria? Are they going to tell a businessman who is doing his business without any support from the government how to run his or her business? I'm based here in Malaysia 🇲🇾 and I send spare parts to Nigeria, before this government came into power 1m naira was worth more than 6k ringgit, but today as we speak, 1m naira is worth 3200 ringgit, and the import duty increases like everyday in Nigeria.

    Are we not in a free market economy? The price of fertilizer, seedlings petroleum products, electricity are skyrocketing, etc everyday. The mother of all devaluation of the naira. All these constitutes cost of production. The major contributor to the GDP is Agriculture what's the rate of return from Agriculture. Moreover what incentives does the farmers have? Is it insecurity where farmers don't go to farm? For the medium term the Government urgently need to import food to cushion the suffering as well as crashing the prices of food.

    You can't tell people to fix a particular price on their items when your policies have inflicted hardship making it difficult to realise profits. Remove your harsh economic policies and price will adjust, then you can have the morality to ensure price is controlled.

    It’s a gamut of things for government to control price of goods and services that it doesn’t produce. There are many factors that go into displaying tomato for sale in the market. Consider the cost of vehicle to transport; cost of fuel, fertilizer, implements to till the land, costs of labour etc
