Mom doesn’t disapprove because you aren’t Korean, but more likely because you are part black. I am 25% black (father’s side) and my mother is Korean. Growing up in Korea, they called me Gahm-doong-ee (n-word in Korean) all the time. If you were white, she wouldn’t treat you with so much vile. It really makes me sick, watching you all these years and you yearning for her acceptance, being shunned and refused even in their garage way back when, etc. Your heart is beautiful, your children are beautiful, your love story is beautiful. Your little family is deserving of all the love in the world. ❤

So sad you had to go through that. Something tells me Koreas love of whiteness and anti-blackness comes from the Christian religion that most of the nation was indoctrinated into by the American government during and after the Korean War.
It’s an odd coincidence that anywhere on this earth that is not majority white, but is majority Christian has the same type of bigotry and white favoritism.

that is not true. I am white and my korean MIL calls me a prostitute and showed up to my wedding with an extra bride. During our first thanksgiving as a married couple, my MIL tried to talk my husband into seeing another woman on the side who is korean. she also told me Im lucky because i get to keep their name. as a result, i have not seen nor talk to her for 5 years. so being white wouldnt improve your situation

@@cookie22100 WOW! I live in the 3rd highest korean community in usa. all of the stores are in hangul. I can speak and read Korean. The hair salon, grocery stores and book stores would charge me more than their Korean counterparts. At a Korean wedding, most of the female koresn guests gave me the silent treatment. The Aunt who raised me did not approve of my choice in life partner because of his nationality. I left home at 16. At the age of 28 I made the decision ON MY TERMS to offer her the opportunity to form a relationship with my young children (2 & 3 years old at the time).
My first duty as a parent is to protect them from abuse.
I informed her that if I felt she was demonstrating any behaviour toward them that was derogatory or negative then she would never see any of us again.
It was in the third visit that I overheard her making an off Color comment to my cousin about my son growing up to be a wife basher ( because italians can’t control their emotions and anger apparently?).
I promptly informed her that she had been warned and that we were leaving.
She looked shocked. She was arrogant enough to believe I would let it slide.

Can you imagine someone having to take up the courage having to put everything they got, having to gather alllll their strength to finally meet you after disapproving of you not because you are a bad person. Not because you have done something so unforgivably wrong. Not that you got some criminal record or something. But because of the color of your skin, your skin…something you had no control over. God given ❤🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️ chilllle anyways. ❤❤

Colour yes but also cultural differences. Some Koreans also have problems accepting light skin filippinos or Chinese who look like them. Many Asian families prefer own race for fear that a foreigner won't be a good fit in the family. I know of Indian families who got their sons to break up or divorce White women too because they didn't want any mixing. Am not justifying anything. Just explaining. It's changing now with the younger generation. However you are partly right, there will be more objections when the outsider is Black.

The mother-in-law has wanted a reunion before but her ego was prohibiting her from making the move. I knew it when she took the dad to the birthday party and was looking in the windows. She understood that she is aging and missing out on the time with the little ones.

My mother-in-law didn't accept me until I was expecting her first grandchild. We were married eight years before we had a baby. Once my mother-in-law accepted me, then my husband's sister and brother started talking to me. My inlaws were divorced, so thankfully, my father-in-law accepted me from the beginning. The division was over religion in our case. You were very kind to bring food and of course, your baby boy! I hope things are continuing to improve. Life is too short. ❤

You are a very patient and non judgemental person. You are someone that doesn't hold grudges. Thats how I see you. I would be angry that so much time was lost not having a relationship with their grandchildren. Me being a grandmother, that kind of relationship is so important and cannot be replaced by anyone. And it must've been very painful just to think what your husband was going through knowing his Mother wanted nothing to do with his children. But, thats just me. I hope things continúe to become more friendly and close as a family. My advice is to take it slow. Justin's mom seems to be a person that becomes overwhelmed very easily. Don't become pushy about visits. She'll have her daughter to help her along at home. I wish the best for all of you.

A grandparents will power to live on for their grandchildren is so powerful. I say this because my dad had chronic pain and and other illnesses since before my nephews and nieces were born. He would tell me he couldn’t leave until he saw them older and they graduated. He was basically like a father figure to them. I’m sure your little one gave her strength when she saw him and probably reminded her of her son as well.

Justin's parents and sister have had an epiphany. The Lord truly works in mysterious ways and is always a great leveller. In this time of adversity, they have been moved to acknowledge the existence of Sarah who has been part of their extended family for so long and has, with Justin, created three of the most delightful grand children, neices, nephew they could ever have dreamed of. So much able bodied time has been wasted, now, the mother in law will be learning many things some again, some for the first time. I sincerely hope she makes the best recovery body and soul so that this fractured family can at, long last, heal. Bless you all.

It is unfortunate that such a profound health event triggered these truly life changing moments. I think that staring at one's own mortality can have a profound influence on behavior.
