Hi, Thanks, as always, for your informative videos. We understand that, as US citizens, we'll always have to file taxes in the US but do we pay double taxes if we move to Greece? I know you aren't a tax person but am having a hard time finding info online. if you have any idea where to look to find this information, I'd appreciate it so much!
No, we have a tax agreement with Greece so you are not double taxed. If you work here and are taxed then you would present that when paying your US taxes so that you get credit for it.

Copy of Birth Certificate- can the copies be photocopies, or official?...anything other docs? We come back to GR every year...my MIL has a home there, but we'll eventually need to be able to pay utilities/taxes/etc for her...these conversations came up suddenly, and she's leaving for GR this afternoon!
@@JThemelis Not that I am aware of, at least officially. They will need to be official. They will also need proof of address in Greece. This isn't something you can do quickly from afar. I don't quite understand your situation, but if your MIL already has an AFM to pay her bills then you should just be able to pay them for her from a bank account.

The situation in a nutshell: My MIL has a home in ATH; when she's no longer with us one day, we'll need to take over responsibilities for the home. We also want to buy a property in the next couple of years, so I believe we'll need the number. There's no rush for this, my MIL is there now, and there's plenty of time for them to get to the office to begin the process. Thanks for entertaining my questions!
@@JThemelis If she is going to do it for you, then she will need power of attorney. I think it would need to be notarized as well. I would check with your local Greek consulate regarding the notarization as it may need to be a Greek one.

Hi Vania! You're welcome. I suggest calling them. They can direct you how. If you can't get a hold of them, I found another number for you, +30 213 162 1000. This the KEP Taxation Services number. Or you could contact the KEP near you and ask them. Keep in mind, appointments may be limited right now due to COVID.
I heard some years ago that a Greek court ruled parking meters illegal because people had to pay that road tax. Now, it's possible that the government did something about that. Do people still ignore parking meters?

Thanks! No, I don’t believe so. It has to be done at a tax office. You might be able to hire an accountant in Greece to do it for you though.

Not if you do it for yourself. My lawyer did it so that made it easy for me.
