this is what happened to me too 6 years ago. I loved listening to Perfume & Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, only to later find out both were produced by Nakata, & I've been in this rabbit hole ever since.
I had the same sort of realization lol, Nakata the GOAT. If you want to listen to similar stuff I would recommend Sonic Coaster Pop (Swinging Circuit, Super Speed POP Star, and Attraction Pop are all great tracks), Plus Tech Squeeze Box (early Riser, Sneaker Song, and starship.6 are all amazing, they also have a ton of really good remixes of other songs), and Pine*am (Cosmic Glider, and Gymnopedie.1 are really good, there rendition of gymnopedie is especially great, probaby my favorite pop song from Japan ever made)
I had the same thought. I guess I like Max Martin cuz he produces every song you can even imagine, and as a producer, that's saying a lot cuz I listen to a lot of songs NOT produced or written by Max Martin, and all of those songs people don't seem to know. Crazy crazy crazy...
俺と全く同じだww im grad you know him too!! He's made so many bangers in the 2000s, it's seriously impressive. I've been getting into the song 'Hello' by Capsule lately.
tbh I think you're giving the producer too much credit, of course the guy who produced it matters but the different voices, talents and showmanship of the idols themselves are distinct enough to consider them completely different musical projects.
That is very true, not trying to downplay their individual talents, more just trying to show how hundreds of awesome songs wouldn’t exist if this guy wasn’t around. I think producers are often severely under credited/under appreciated in terms of their work so I feel like shining a spotlight on them & the importance of there work (especially those who also fully write the songs aswell) is a valid thing to do. He’s practically like max martin & I’ve never heard mention or praise of his name until doing some digging online
I'd like to add that @Healibord you're underestimating this producer here. What you said about showmanship, talent is true, but musically speaking it is ALL Nakata. The guy is a one man army. If you check the credits of almost all his artist's songs, they're composed, arranged, mixed, mastered, lyrics... EVERYTHING by him alone. He won't let anyone else play a part in this aspect. He even directs his singers to sing in the manner he wants. Everything you hear is engineered by him. Not to mention his creations & influences make some liken him to be a modern era Mozart, he's the progenitor of the hyperpop style from way back in the 2000s & the rise of the emotional branches of EDM music is directly a result of his works early on.
THANK YOU THAYER , boutta go down the craziest j-pop rabbit hole
