Idk if anyone else remembers this but earlt rdna3 was supposed to have up to 15k shaders instead of the 12k we got. That gpu would have competed directly with the 4090

The efficiency is just so AMAZING!!! Now when the RX 7970 XTX would even beat the 4090 in most games I wouldn't even bother because I've got more than enough power and MUCH LESS power draw!!! I couldn't ever live with draw over 400 watts all the time! I live in Germany and the times where energy was cheap are over! now I even look that I always turn off my internet router when I leave my flat! :D
i have this card and the hotspot temp issue IS VERY COMMON ON THIS GPU. Replace with kyrosheet (Thermal PAD) for the fix. thermal compound will just pump out over time on this chiplet gpu
My PowerColor RX 7900 XTX Red Devil Limited at stock reaches 375W and 70°C and 90°C Hotspot after i replaced the thermal paste due to it being badly applied from the factory and it was causing 109°C Hotspot temp
as one of the ones with EVC on my 7900xtx with liquid metal etc and a large custom loop to deal with it, I've argued the same. One issue around 3200-3400 mhz depending on games can get instability but its totally depends on the specific games, where 3d mark I was pushing 3500mhz clocks and going toe to toe with 4090's in that. Albiet at much higher wattage, like 900w, 1000w in furmark in that setup. Golden chips with good memory controllers etc can hit that like 3100-3300 sweet spot for much less power some work probably still needs to be done for stability. A really good, low leakage part probably can do 3250-3300 for only 550-600w in many titles full tilt. (cyberpunk will push up clockspeeds) Memory overclocking is a huge uplift as well, I personally have a bit higher leakage, guess you can gleam this from ASIC quality # ? but i haven't had enough comparisons with friends/other members that have done this to really see. Sorry if I missed it but how did you get clocks/power target to what you did? Is Aqua different? I ended up going with the Taichi, and putting custom block on.
I knew that my 7970 GHz Edition would come back because it was at its peak, and I was living in the future ahead of you folks (just waiting for over 10 years)...... Losers, I already have the 7970 GHz Editions.
What is odd to me is that, unlike RDNA2 vs Ampere, Nvidia has no higher -card- die than the AD102 used in the 4090, Nvidia cannot take the H100 and slap some video out ports on it like they could with the A100, most of the ROPS have been removed from the H100. So if AMD beats The 4090, the only card AMD would have to worry about is the fully unlocked AD102 AMD even if they brought a 750mm die RDNA2 with 110CU, it would have been beaten by the A100, which on paper could be faster at raster than the 4090(keep in mind the A100 doesnt use double pumped INT+FP32, so on paper it could be 2x as fast as the cuda core count suggests) For reference, slap some video ports on the H100 and i would not be surprized if it performed worse than a 2060 due to the lack of ROPs But there is no reason to not go for the crown now, other than complacency. AMD's cards are cheaper to manufacture. The 4090 is 600mm 4nm The 7900XT is 300mm 5nm drop a 400-450mm GCD with significantlly more on-die cache, while keeping the MCD cache as an L4. same bandwidth but as much as a 30w power saving by moving the cache on-die transfering less bits/joules to and from the MCD (IIRC this chiplet design uses 2-4 picojoules per bit transferred between cache and GCD almost as bad as GDDR6, but alot more bits being transferred)
Noone wants to talk about it? Isn't a 3Ghz+ Nvidia beater all you were talking about for years, then the 7900xtx dropped and dropped the ball at the same time with it's 'poor' performance. 🤷
Asus just dropped the $3200 4090 with liquid metal cooling. We need the same for the 7900 xtx to properly compare the two ar their peak performances. But as a whole, a stock 4090 beats the xtx, and overclocked is largely the same? In terms of stock vs stock and oc vs oc.
It's gona sound like I'm an nvidia fanboy, but by the time you buy the 7900xtx aqua with a complete loop or maybe a 7970xtx with a price markup considering the insane powerdraw, it might be cheaper to just buy the 4090.
This is the 7900 that I want lol. I have the Asrock 6900xt phantom gaming D with a water block, and its a beast. So i figured their aqua 7900xtx would follow suite.
Managed to side flash vbios the liquid devil vbios to my red devil for that extra 40W 434W->467ish and I can get 3000-3100mhz CoreClock, but what is super weird, and this may be because of the new water block I installed that keeps the VRAM at 52C, but I can Overclock the ram to 2875 no problem and before i couldn't even do 2700mhz.
I've heard the same countless times. Dude, AMD will never beat Nvidia on the top end. Everyone buys Nvidia, even if they hate them. They just have a better feature set. The mid tier is were they can compete and even so its hard to convince people to buy AMD. The Ryzen vs Intel case it's not the same on the GPU side. It's just the way it is.
no ever buys amd gpus that is just factually incorrect, and amd win the middle ground top end gpus are really a niche market and don't represent alot on overall sales however i can agree nivida do win them on that tho amd do win on the middle ground which is where most people tend to be honestly, it really doesn't make sense to fight at the high end when like 90% really dont have the money or cant justify the cost of them and i think amd know that there great at the middle ground or at least was when it came to gaming with a budget , personally the last 2 generations minus the 6800xt from amd have been a huge bust
Plenty of gas left in the 102 die for a 4090 ti and a titan. Add ggdr7 and they could make something like 5 different gpus thats faster than 4090. 4090 is kind of disappointing because of the cut down and the price, but it is the fastest.
Probably unpopular opinion but I care too much about Ray Tracing. I loved my 6900 XT but I kept feeling FOMO whenever I had to turn off (or lower) ray tracing in games. I hate my 4090 I wish I didn't feel obligated to get it but until they get good RT I'm gonna stay green for awhile.
With the way the economy is going, AMD is going to make a comeback in the coming decade. We'll be looking at a 50/50 market share again at least. Nvidia is just spitting in our faces every generation with the low amount of VRAM, terrible performance uplift gen over gen (40 series, 20 series) and lack of actual "budget cards". I wish i couldve convinced myself to buy a 4070 Ti, i miss my Nvidia features on my 2070 Super. But i am incredibly happy with my 7900 XT. Its extremely close to 4080 performance at the price of the 4070 Ti. AMD's RT ability has also come to almost match 30 Series RTX, which is plenty good enough for most of us that want to fiddle with RT at decent framerates. AMD would do well to capitalize and do marketing showing how far theyve come. The issue is that people still see them as the "buggy cheap option" when in reality lately theyre just as stable as Nvidia products. Fanboys wont admit it, but Nvidia has just as many issues as AMD with drivers. Read the changelogs.

If amd could improve rt performance and create an implementation of dlss or improve fsr2 they'd be a clear choice. Even just having dlss somehow and slightly better raytracing performance. Paying slightly more for a tiny bit less raster but far faster RT and having dlss would possibly push me to a 4070 over a 7800xt..... maybe. .. FSR2 just looks really bad often. There seem to be reported problems with the 7900xtx too.... which does still look like a very nice card. If i was building a new pc i would still be very tempted for the 7900xt..... it's generally cheaper by quite a bit than the 4070ti
FSR 3.0 will be coming out later this year with frame generation it will make ray tracing finally viable on AMD cards. it looks and performs similarly to dlss 2.5
Cost aside, yeah...NO. especially with regards to Ray Tracing. Don't get me wrong, I want AMD to do better just for the sake of competition, that will be better for us all. Both those results in the charts are clearly cherry picked with certain select games. In other words, unless I see a Hardware Unboxed video doing a multi game comparison with the cards at different settings and resolutions, it's not better.
Ehh I returned my 4090 for the 7900 too and I couldn't be more happy about it. The 4090 is a terrible card with countless issues. I've never had one problem with my AMD card. Honestly if they keep making cards like this I'll never get a Nvidia card again
Would probably have gotten a 7900 XTX too but the 7 months it took to fix VR, the ongoing power issues, lack of features and just not being good enough for the price made me get a 4090 instead. No regrets. I hope AMD gets their sh*t together tho...need at least some competition at the highest end.
Conner, lIke I have been saying since RDNA lll launch, GCD to MCD latency requires power / frequency to increase transfer rate + adding memory OC, balancing,, makes sense but 525W . . . hahaha. mb

My nitro + 7900xtx will sustain 3025mhz during certain gaming situations. Super happy about it and just wanted to flex a little bit.
😂😂 enable Ray tracing
@@xwety nice the known gimmick ray tracing comes into an argument
@@thiccone6005 there's an obvious performance difference between ray tracing on and off, and is a huge component in creating/rendering 3D models... in my experience, games with ray tracing on are much smoother, when the right settings are applied... but please, regurgitate false information butthurt YT creators who can't afford a 4090 say about it lol
even the most popular youtubers earning hundreds to a million dollars say it's a useless gimmick legit most of the games don't get nowhere close to above 100 fps with it and for 1600 dollars what a rip off.
@@xwety only reason people use it is for single player games to *look pretty * for a moment and turn it off
This isn't new news. When the 7900XTX came out they said it would match the RTX 4090 but they needed a buttload of power (north of 500w) to keep up with it.
They decided not to release it like that since the consumers would complain and they being AMD they would fumble the cooler just like they did the reference models, just like they did the 290X etc etc.
Idk if anyone else remembers this but earlt rdna3 was supposed to have up to 15k shaders instead of the 12k we got. That gpu would have competed directly with the 4090
Did you max out the 4090 also?
My xtx gets to 3gz, it could go further but my ambient room temps was a bit high till recently
Wait 'til summer, it'll cost hundreds a month to stay cool while running that beast.
@@FromDesertTown lol it's not as bad as you would think, at worst I open the side of my case, but I tightened the back brace so my temps are normal
CAP
Playing dogshit looter zoomer shooters in 4k, gen z is so far gone honestly
No one's talking about it because AMD is not talking about it. If they got the goods, then they should stand up and highlight it. That's on AMD, not anyone else.
A very wise man once said..."If you're not first you're last!"... why would you not compete if you could... unless Nvidia and AMD are in bed together which is possible being the CEOs are literally something like first cousins. Nahhh thats not wierd... right??????
I wonder how well PTM 7950 would have done instead of liquid metal
how does it compare to the 4090 in cuda workloads and av1 encoding?
550W to lose to a stock 4090, bro stop coping, the xtx simply doesn't have a big enough chip to take on the 4090. AMD just didn't go that big due to their L power management on this gen. It just can't compete with RTX 4080/90 they're simply superior.
dont know why I wasted my time watching this video
why don't you review the new cyberpunk 2.0 update with the given new features such as DLSS 3.5 ray reconstruction? Surely that would be worth your time?
Can you run the RX 7900 XTX on a AM4 Motherboard?
just bought this exact card last week and when i saw the title of this video I was about to feel sick because i was thinking "oh no i bought a 7900xtx when something better is right around the corner" imagine my relief when it turned out the card you were talking about was actually the one I had bought after all LOL.
I loved how you made up problems with a Nvida, you did not even google on how to fix it.
My Red Devil hits 3200Mhz all the time. All stock, not even re-pasted.
Remember that air conditioner case that LTT tested?
Nvidia comes out with a fictional 5090iou and in good order AMD responds with a fictional 7970xtxxx
Well if AMD would do that, NVIDIA would pump out a 4090 Ti in no time.
aktually I wanted to buy a nice version of a RX 7900 XTX and now I have the 4090 and I'm happy as hell even max undervolted and limited to 115 FPS max on my 120Hz LG OLED C1! :D
If it has 130CU's then it's a possibility and doable...
What's the power draw? I imagine that bumping up to and above 3Ghz is going to pull some power.
i have this card and the hotspot temp issue IS VERY COMMON ON THIS GPU. Replace with kyrosheet (Thermal PAD) for the fix. thermal compound will just pump out over time on this chiplet gpu
Does it affect every version of the gpu
I was thinking 'oh FFS don't be eating the cereal'
Then I laughed my ass off 😂
My PowerColor RX 7900 XTX Red Devil Limited at stock reaches 375W and 70°C
and 90°C Hotspot after i replaced the thermal paste due to it being badly applied from the factory and it was causing 109°C Hotspot temp
as one of the ones with EVC on my 7900xtx with liquid metal etc and a large custom loop to deal with it, I've argued the same.
(cyberpunk will push up clockspeeds)
Memory overclocking is a huge uplift as well,
I personally have a bit higher leakage, guess you can gleam this from ASIC quality # ? but i haven't had enough comparisons with friends/other members that have done this to really see.
Sorry if I missed it but how did you get clocks/power target to what you did? Is Aqua different? I ended up going with the Taichi, and putting custom block on.
Hey I'm looking to make pc build focused around the 7900xtx can u help me out?
You can put the aqua bios on the phantom and taichi as well. Asrock make some power hungry cards.
Have you tested this?
You can flash the aqua bios onto any Xtx with a ch341a. I did it to my nitro +
I knew that my 7970 GHz Edition would come back because it was at its peak, and I was living in the future ahead of you folks (just waiting for over 10 years)...... Losers, I already have the 7970 GHz Editions.
OMFG, Haha, Bwahahaha, that is by far the best way to do a sponsor ad to guarantee people don't skip it, well done
I dont think people would pay over $999 for such a card.
What is odd to me is that, unlike RDNA2 vs Ampere, Nvidia has no higher -card- die than the AD102 used in the 4090, Nvidia cannot take the H100 and slap some video out ports on it like they could with the A100, most of the ROPS have been removed from the H100.
So if AMD beats The 4090, the only card AMD would have to worry about is the fully unlocked AD102
AMD even if they brought a 750mm die RDNA2 with 110CU, it would have been beaten by the A100, which on paper could be faster at raster than the 4090(keep in mind the A100 doesnt use double pumped INT+FP32, so on paper it could be 2x as fast as the cuda core count suggests)
For reference, slap some video ports on the H100 and i would not be surprized if it performed worse than a 2060 due to the lack of ROPs
But there is no reason to not go for the crown now, other than complacency.
AMD's cards are cheaper to manufacture.
The 4090 is 600mm 4nm
The 7900XT is 300mm 5nm
drop a 400-450mm GCD with significantlly more on-die cache, while keeping the MCD cache as an L4. same bandwidth but as much as a 30w power saving by moving the cache on-die transfering less bits/joules to and from the MCD (IIRC this chiplet design uses 2-4 picojoules per bit transferred between cache and GCD almost as bad as GDDR6, but alot more bits being transferred)
Noone wants to talk about it? Isn't a 3Ghz+ Nvidia beater all you were talking about for years, then the 7900xtx dropped and dropped the ball at the same time with it's 'poor' performance. 🤷
HEY what about the unofficial RTX 4095?
If AMD put some effort into ray tracing there might be some comparison... as soon as RT comes into the room AMD shits the bed
for 95% of people these kind of gpus are overkill.
I would buy a 7950 or 7970XTX if it's gonna be on par with a 4090 or beat it.
40 series won't overclock more than 6%
If I get $1 every time this guy says goodbye and rip I might be a billionaire by now.
Man I love clickbaits.
It's gona sound like I'm an nvidia fanboy, but by the time you buy the 7900xtx aqua with a complete loop or maybe a 7970xtx with a price markup considering the insane powerdraw, it might be cheaper to just buy the 4090.
And easier with less hassle.
This is the 7900 that I want lol. I have the Asrock 6900xt phantom gaming D with a water block, and its a beast. So i figured their aqua 7900xtx would follow suite.
You seem like such a well informed, non-speculative guy
Yeah this isn’t even a comparison. 4090 is in another league. When the 5090 comes it will be in another galaxy along with the price🤦🏻♂️
Bruh you looked goofy af eating that cereal in the ad
5% percent is a tiny bit.....actually 5% is a generational leap according to AMD hahaha
now imagine asrock makes a 4090 gpu then truly NOTHING will compare to their 4090 card. god i wish they made nvidia gpus
asrock not all that great.
It says so in their namee as Rock = worth nothing.
There are much better aib than asrock for nvidia. Msi and asus are just 2 of them.
GREAT ad bro. Love the angle you take.. it's hilarious.
I thought the 7900xtx was moreso a 4080 competitor, not 4090
AMD Needs to get those CPUs out.
I thought I clicked on a cereal commercial! Way to much advertising
OMG my favourite 7970 is back! Bigger and badder! Although it's now RX instead of HD 😂😂

Would you buy an RX 7970 XTX 3GHz Edition? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
You have said you don't read the comments
there wont be 7950 or 7970 xtx we already know that!
Cyberpunk result is an AMD win
Are your ear holes ok?
Price difference is not worth it.
Amd too worried about efficiency man at the end of the day You don't buy the fastest card because of its efficiency
7970 was my first gpu 😢
AMD needs to step up there GPU game
How big? 50 cm long?
This channel is paid by AMD, stop overselling.
😂 my breakfast is my previous dinner ❤
Is the 800€ worth for 4090
where are u finding a 4090 for 800€ it’s literally 1500+ everywhere
Cost aside, yeah...NO. especially with regards to Ray Tracing. Don't get me wrong, I want AMD to do better just for the sake of competition, that will be better for us all. Both those results in the charts are clearly cherry picked with certain select games.
In other words, unless I see a Hardware Unboxed video doing a multi game comparison with the cards at different settings and resolutions, it's not better.
And, if you are going to spend $1,300 for a high end card, you are going to spend at least the MSRP for an RTX 4090.
Conner, lIke I have been saying since RDNA lll launch, GCD to MCD latency requires power / frequency to increase transfer rate + adding memory OC, balancing,, makes sense but 525W . . . hahaha. mb
Good for AsRock as a price / margin support. mb
cereal killer! 😱
Y'all are crazy chasing numbers instead of better games. :p Even so, it doesn't look like a fair comparison. Do the same with the 4090 for a fair trial.
Radeon HD 7970 launched in 2011..
