i probably have the worst cain instinct of my siblings, because i will bonk them over the head any chance i can.
that's unfortunately also how i show affection (gently bapping their faces, patting their heads etc) which can give mixed signals

The violence as affection is called "cute aggression." It's more common than people think, though it's stronger for some people.
Members of my family have it really bad. Some throw things, some bite or smack, etc.
As we get older we learn to control it as best we can. Main rules are ask first or at least give warning so they can dodge if possible, and don't draw blood or break anything.
